We were truly honoured to host Ronda J. Green, Chair of Wildlife Tourism Australia, during her recent visit to Maliau Basin.

Dr Ronda’s visit to Sabah was primarily through an invitation by Borneo Eco Tours, where she attended the handover of the guide training manual co-authored with David Newsome. Both were also honoured as Conservation Fellows of Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

From meaningful discussions at Yayasan Sabah to an unforgettable journey into the heart of the rainforest at the Maliau Basin Studies Centre, her visit has been nothing short of inspiring. Surrounded by the rich biodiversity of one of Sabah’s most treasured conservation areas, she experienced firsthand the beauty and importance of protecting our natural heritage.

A special highlight was her engaging talk, where she generously shared her expertise and global perspectives on wildlife tourism with our team and invited participants. Her insights sparked valuable conversations and reinforced our shared commitment towards responsible and sustainable tourism practices.

Moments like these remind us of the power of collaboration, knowledge exchange, and a shared passion for conservation.

We had the honour of welcoming Dr Ronda J. Green, Chair of Wildlife Tourism Australia, to the Conservation & Environmental Management Division office at Yayasan Sabah.

Her visit marks a meaningful exchange of knowledge and shared passion for sustainable wildlife tourism. A key highlight was the exchange of books, including her authored Working in Wildlife Tourism: A Handbook for Guides, Students, Small Business, and NGOs; a valuable resource that closely aligns with our ongoing efforts to strengthen responsible tourism practices.

Tomorrow, she will journey to the Maliau Basin Studies Centre, where she will experience the wonders of the rainforest firsthand, from its rich biodiversity to immersive field activities within one of Sabah’s most treasured conservation areas. She will also be delivering an exclusive talk, sharing her expertise and global insights in wildlife tourism with our team and invited participants.
