UMSDC and UM Water Warriors were invited to provide an experiential learning session for recipients of the UM Living Lab Grant 2025 under the project titled “Teaching for a Cooler Future: Empowering Pre-Service Science Teachers through Environmental STEM (E-STEM) and Climate Change Pedagogical Content Knowledge (CC-PCK).”

A total of 74 Universiti Malaya students from STEM Education courses participated in the session, where they learned about UM Water Warriors as one of the pioneering Living Labs and received training as citizen scientists in water quality and biodiversity monitoring using the iNaturalist app.

The fish‑inventory study programme at Tasik Varsiti is underway for 24 hours starting today until tomorrow! This initiative is a collaboration between the Department of Fisheries Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur / Putrajaya and Universiti Malaya. The purpose of this inventory study is to identify fish species populations and gather information on their distribution around the lake. This follows the fish‑releasing ceremony at Tasik Varsiti on 18 July 2024, and continues from the first fish‑inventory study conducted in early 2024.

Another field visit to Tasik Varsiti was held on 12 November 2025 for the GDB0005 Therapeutic Landscape class, attended by undergraduates from various faculties in UM. Glad to see them enjoying smelling and touching the leaves and bark of some of the trees here, such as the Kobari (Hymenaea courbaril) and Kayu Manis (Cinnamomum zeylanicum). The students also learned about the wetland system and the dangers of eutrophication.

A field visit to Tasik Varsiti was held on 7 November 2025 for students of the MSc in Sustainability Science (Course: SQE7017 Sustainability and Strategic Thinking). The visit allowed students to immerse themselves in the landscape of Tasik Varsiti and learn directly from UM Water Warriors on how long-term commitment to water conservation has shaped their advocacy and activism in revitalising UM’s water bodies.
