If someone shows you a training certificate, what does it actually confirm?

A certificate may show that someone attended or completed a course, but it does not always explain what was taught, whether practical skills were observed or how competency was assessed.

This does not mean attendance certificates are unimportant. Training can build valuable knowledge and awareness. Families should simply understand the difference between attending a programme and demonstrating the ability to perform a defined role.

Useful questions include: Was there a written assessment? Was practical performance observed? Were service boundaries explained clearly?

At Medimate, we believe trust should be supported by clearer information, defined responsibilities and transparent processes—not assumptions based on a job title or certificate alone.

Know the training. Know the assessment. Know the role.

What should an appointment companion do if someone suddenly feels unwell?

A non-medical companion should not diagnose the problem, recommend treatment or perform clinical tasks outside their role.

The appropriate response is to alert clinic or hospital staff promptly, stay with the person where appropriate, and contact the authorised family member according to the agreed process.

This is why clear service boundaries matter.

Families should understand what a companion is expected to do, what they must not do, and how concerns will be escalated when something changes during the appointment.

Medimate is preparing a structured non-medical appointment companionship service with defined roles and escalation steps for controlled pilot use.

A platform cannot remove every risk, but it can help make responsibilities and next steps clearer.

Over the past few months, we’ve been focused on building something we believe many families in Malaysia need—but building it responsibly has always mattered more to us than building it quickly.

Today, I’m happy to share that Medimate has moved from product development into launch preparation.

Some of our recent milestones include:
• Our core platform has been built.
• We are currently undergoing User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
• Our Q3 focus is app-store readiness, payment integration, companion onboarding and operational preparation.
• We are preparing for our first controlled pilot after companion training is completed.

One decision we’ve made from the beginning is to keep Medimate’s initial scope focused on non-medical appointment companionship. While transport remains part of our long-term vision, we believe it should only be introduced after the necessary operational processes, insurance and regulatory requirements are properly implemented.

For us, building trust isn’t about launching as quickly as possible. It’s about taking the time to build clear processes, define responsibilities and prepare carefully before families rely on our service.

Thank you to everyone who has followed our journey, shared feedback and encouraged us along the way. Every milestone brings us one step closer to supporting people who shouldn’t have to face a medical appointment alone.

When arranging someone to accompany your parent or loved one to a hospital appointment, what do you usually check first?

Availability? Price? Experience?

Those matter—but so does the process behind the service.

Many independent companions may provide responsible and caring support. Still, families should understand what the person will do, what falls outside their role, how the arrangement is recorded, and who can be contacted if plans suddenly change.

Medimate is building a structured non-medical appointment companionship platform with clearer service boundaries, documented booking processes and defined support pathways.

A platform cannot remove every risk, but it can make expectations and accountability clearer for everyone involved.

Know the person.
Know the scope.
Know the process.

“I just nodded. I didn’t really understand.” 😔

That’s what my mum said after going to the hospital alone.

The nurse spoke fast. Her English isn’t strong. So she smiled, nodded, and hoped the signboards would guide her.

They didn’t. 🪧

Small text. Medical terms like “Endocrine” and “Radiology.” Lighting that makes it worse if your eyesight isn’t sharp anymore.

She ended up wandering two floors, unsure where to go.

This happens more than we realize. For many elderly parents, the hardest part of a hospital visit isn’t medical — it’s language and literacy. 🗣️

And they often won’t tell you. They’ll just say “it’s okay, I managed.” Even when they didn’t.

This is exactly why Medimate exists.

Our trained, verified, non-medical companions accompany parents to hospital & clinic visits — helping them read signboards, understand directions, and communicate in the language they’re comfortable in (EN / BM / 中文). 🧭

🚫 No medical advice
🚫 No diagnosis or treatment
🚫 No clinical care

Just someone who makes sure they’re understood. 💛
