The High Commission proudly participated in the 2026 Africa Day Celebrations held in Matola, showcasing the country’s rich cultural heritage through the display of traditional artifacts and authentic cuisine. The event provided an important platform for African countries to celebrate unity in diversity, while also promoting cultural exchange and economic cooperation across the continent.

Botswana’s exhibition attracted considerable interest from guests and participants, particularly through its presentation of traditional cuisine, with a special emphasis on meat products for which Botswana is internationally renowned. Distinguished guests, including H.E. Ms. Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Mozambique and H.E. Mr. Júlio Parruque visited the Botswana stall and sampled a variety of traditional dishes that reflected Botswana’s rich culinary traditions and hospitality.

The participation further served as an opportunity to promote Botswana’s beef industry and explore potential market opportunities in Mozambique and beyond. Botswana continues to position itself as a reliable producer of high-quality beef products, in line with ongoing efforts to expand regional and international trade partnerships within the framework of African economic integration and intra-African trade.

In addition to culinary displays, Botswana also showcased cultural artifacts that highlighted the country’s identity, traditions, and craftsmanship. The exhibition reinforced Botswana’s commitment to strengthening people-to-people relations and fostering closer ties with fellow African nations through culture, trade, and tourism.

Africa Day commemorates the founding of the African Union, formerly the Organisation of African Unity, and is celebrated annually across the continent to promote African solidarity, unity, and development.
