Today, the High Commissioner of the Republic of Botswana to the Republic of Namibia, Phemelo Rankoro, signed the Book of Condolences at the High Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Windhoek, following the passing of H.E. Muhammadu Buhari, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In his message, the High Commissioner conveyed heartfelt sympathies on behalf of the Government and People of Botswana, honouring President Buhari’s legacy as a leader devoted to the progress of Nigeria, the unity of Africa, and the strengthening of diplomatic relations, including those between Nigeria and Botswana.

We stand in solidarity with the Government and People of Nigeria during this time of mourning.
May his soul rest in eternal peace. 🕊️

Today, 15 May 2025, H.E. Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia, arrived in Gaborone for a courtesy introductory visit to Botswana.

During the visit, she will hold high-level talks with President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko focused on enhancing cooperation in energy, agriculture, tourism, environment, transport, telecommunications, defence, and security.

Namibia and Botswana continue to enjoy strong bonds of friendship rooted in shared history, solidarity, and mutual respect.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah is scheduled to depart later this afternoon.

The Botswana High Commissioner to Namibia attended and delivered remarks at the farewell ceremony of Namibia’s Former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Works and Transport, Hon. John Mutorwa. Speaking on behalf of the Government of Botswana, he acknowledged the deep-rooted ties between the two countries, strengthened through joint initiatives like the Trans Kalahari Corridor, the Trans Kalahari Railway Project, and enhanced air connectivity. He praised Hon. Mutorwa's leadership, wisdom, and dedication to regional cooperation, and reaffirmed Botswana’s commitment to advancing shared development goals. The High Commissioner extended warm wishes for Hon. Mutorwa’s retirement.

The High Commissioner, HE Phemelo Rankoro, alongside other African Ambassador to Namibia , joined mourners in Windhoek yesterday afternoon, 12 February 2025, to pay their respects to the late Founding President, Sam Nujoma. The gathering was a solemn occasion, reflecting on the immense contributions and legacy of President Nujoma, who played a pivotal role in Namibia's journey to independence and nation-building.

The Ambassadors’ visit to the bereaved family underscored the deep respect and solidarity shared among African nations, as well as the recognition of President Nujoma's enduring impact on the continent. The occasion served as a moment of unity and reflection, honoring a leader whose vision and dedication continue to inspire generations.
