By Mr. Peter Obi those Seeking to be Addressed as “His Excellency” Must Behave Excellently

Yesterday, I joined other presidential candidates to sign the first National Peace Accord for the 2027 Presidential Elections.

My signing of the accord is a reinforcement of my continued commitment to insisting that we, as candidates, must conduct ourselves in a way that reflects the office we aspire to. Leaders must eschew all forms of violent rhetoric and rein in their followers to do the same.

The next elections must be strictly based on the issues that matter to Nigerians: unity, insecurity, pulling people out of poverty, reducing the number of out-of-school children, and restoring hope to the long-suffering people of our country.

Our supporters must see that we have all committed to free, fair, and credible elections based on issues and devoid of rancour.

Those of us wishing to be addressed as “His Excellency” must behave excellently, and, more importantly, the process of attaining public office must be excellent.

We take very seriously the commitment of INEC to free, fair, and credible elections, as well as the pledge by law enforcement agencies to remain unbiased throughout the electioneering process.

I call on my supporters to remain firm, determined, and peaceful.

Emerging report reaching "Atiku Is For The People" global movement, on Tuesday, indicates that a United States of America, USA, Federal Court has ordered President Donald J. Trump's appointed Attorney-General to release all documents relating to the drug-trafficking allegations against Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, setting a final deadline of August 21, 2026.

The directive was issued by a USA District Judge, Beryl Howell, after the USA Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro, requested more time to comply with the Court orders directing the release of the records held by the Department of Justice, DOJ, FBI and DEA.

The development was first publicised in a tweet by a Senior Government Advisor and Consultant, in Washington DC, Dr. Karl Von Batten.

According to Dr. Batten: "President -appointed U.S. Attorney, the amazing and no-nonsense Jeanine Pirro (), has initiated action in Federal Court, to comply with the orders concerning the release of , , and records relating to drug-trafficking allegations against Nigerian President Bola Tinubu ()."

Pirro had asked the Court for an additional 10 days to produce the documents, but Judge Howell granted only four days.

"We deeply appreciate U.S. Attorney and the DOJ’s renewed motivation to release these documents, and we agree with Judge Howell. This case has been pending for three years. The time to release the drug-trafficking files is now", Dr. Batten added on X.

In her ruling, Judge Howell noted that the matter has been in the Court for more than three years, adding that, any further delay was not justified. The new deadline gives the US Attorney’s Office until August 21, to make the records public.

The case has drawn wide attention in Nigeria and abroad, because it touches on the long-standing allegations that have followed President Tinubu, since his time in the United States. The documents being sought are expected to include investigative files and correspondence from the DOJ, FBI and DEA.

Dr. Batten linked the Court’s latest action to the current USA administration’s stance on Nigeria, stating: "As President has indicated, our shared interests with , do not mean supporting an alleged drug trafficker."

The August 21, 2026, deadline, now puts pressure on the US Attorney’s Office to release information that could become a major issue in Nigeria's politics, especially ahead of the 2027

Nigerians hate APC o! No political party had ever been hated this much. Barr Peter Mbah was enjoying spotlight for his sterling performance, but immediately he joined APC, the spotlight flickered. Obi Cubana was the rave of the moment, amassing intimidating quantum of fanfare and respect, but immediately he started drumming support for Tinubu, the spotlight flickered beyond expectation. My brother, Enviable Ituma immediately reclined to his business cocoon and gave City Boys and APC arms length. Should Alex Otti openly support Tinubu's reelection, his own spotlight will be limited to Abia State and even further be limited to members of his political family.

I remember when I was elected state publicity secretary of APC in Ebonyi from 2018-2021 when I willingly resigned over Umahi's joining of the party, identifying as APC member came with huge stigma. I resisted the stigma, but it was not easy for me. It was a whole lot of battle. APC in Southeast in my time was woman with the issue of blood.
