CLTC Positions Man O' War Nigeria as Key Partner in Federal School Safety Push

The Director-General of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC), Rinsola Abiola, has thrown her weight behind a fresh push to safeguard Nigerian schools, following a high-level meeting with officials of Financing Safe Schools and Man O' War Nigeria at the Centre's headquarters.

According to a statement she personally shared via her official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Abiola hosted a delegation from Financing Safe Schools, an initiative supervised by the Federal Ministry of Finance, led by its National Coordinator, Hajiya Halima Iliya Ibrahim. Also in attendance was a team from Man O' War Nigeria, headed by the National Commander, Prince Gbenga Adedamola.

The engagement, the CLTC boss disclosed, was primarily focused on charting a path for collaboration between the two organisations and her agency. Central to the discussion was how Man O' War Nigeria's extensive nationwide volunteer network could be deployed to support coordinated safety operations in schools across the country.

Abiola noted that the partnership would tap into structures already built by Man O' War Nigeria, an organisation long associated with discipline, physical training and civic responsibility among Nigerian youths, to strengthen protective measures for pupils and students nationwide amid growing concerns over insecurity in the education sector.

Reaffirming her Centre's readiness to key into the collaboration, Abiola assured that CLTC would provide whatever backing is required to move the partnership forward. She tied the gesture to the Centre's broader mandate, stressing that the move aligns with a shared commitment to promoting safer learning environments for young Nigerians.

The CLTC helmsman's disposition comes against the backdrop of persistent worries over school safety in parts of the country, ranging from banditry-linked abductions in the North to sporadic security breaches in other regions, concerns that have repeatedly forced government agencies and civil society groups to seek innovative, community-driven solutions.

With Financing Safe Schools operating under the Federal Ministry of Finance's supervision and Man O' War Nigeria bringing decades of grassroots volunteer experience, the partnership, could offer a fresh template for protecting Nigeria's classrooms.

BREAKING: President Tinubu has approved the comprehensive reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), which will see the agency being led by a civilian in its operational leadership, while the military will continue to handle security for corps members across the country.

Tinubu also directed the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Minister of Youth, Ayodele Olawande, to amend the NYSC Act and its regulations to reflect all the approved reform measures, enabling immediate implementation of the new framework.

Some of the landmark reforms include:

1. A technology-driven call-up process.

2. Risk-sensitive deployment to better protect corps members.

3. A redesigned six-week orientation programme with a stronger focus on leadership, entrepreneurship, digital skills, and specialised career streams.
