SSG Engages EBSU Students, Addresses Key Student Concerns During Interactive Session

Yesterday, Monday, 13th July 2026, the Special Secretary-General of the EBSU Students' Union Government (SUG), Comr. Chukwudi Ogbonna (CEO), held an interactive session with students on the *EBSU Students Mouthpiece* platform.

The session gave students the opportunity to ask questions, share their concerns, and receive direct responses on issues affecting their welfare and academic life.

Speaking during the session, Comr. Ogbonna reiterated that the Students' Union Government is committed to representing the interests of EBSU students and maintaining effective communication between students and the University Management.

Some of the key issues discussed were:

1. NELFUND

The SSG assured students that the *₦20,000 monthly upkeep will commence as soon as possible*. He explained that the upkeep is paid directly by the *Federal Government* and not by the University. He also promised to engage the University's NELFUND Officer to ensure applications still showing *"Pending"* are addressed, while ongoing school fee refund issues are resolved.

2. House Rent and Agency Fees

Students expressed concerns over the excessive charges by some house agents and caretakers. In response, the SSG reminded students that the *approved agency fee is 2% of the total house rent.* He urged anyone being charged above this rate to report the matter to the Office of the Secretary-General for prompt action.

3. Delay in Uploading Results

The SSG explained that the delay in uploading last semester's results is due to the University's approval process. He assured students that the results would be uploaded once all necessary procedures had been completed.

4. Transportation

Students also complained about the rising cost of transportation, particularly on the Government Long Bus route. The SSG acknowledged the concerns and assured students that the matter would be reviewed to better understand the situation and explore possible solutions.

5. Learning Environment

Concerns were also raised about overcrowded lecture halls, faulty fans, poor sound systems, lack of electricity in some classrooms, inadequate lecture spaces, and insufficient seats across some faculties. The SSG assured students that these concerns would be presented to the appropriate authorities and revealed plans to personally inspect some of the affected faculties.

The interactive session also gave students from different faculties the opportunity to speak freely about challenges affecting their learning environment and overall welfare.

In his closing remarks, "Comr. Chukwudi Ogbonna (CEO)" thanked every student who participated in the session and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the interests of EBSU students. He also announced that similar interactive sessions would continue, giving students more opportunities to engage directly with the Students' Union.

The Office of the Special Secretary-General appreciates everyone who participated and remains committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and open communication with the EBSU student community.
