Food is one of the most authentic ways to experience a destination.

From the rich flavours of Èbìrìpò in Remo, Ìkokoré in Ijebu made from grated water yam cooked in richly seasoned pepper sauce, to Óta and Èkuru in Yewa, made from peeled beans without palm oil to the beloved Òfadà Rice of Egba, made from locally grown brown rice paired with spicy Ayamásè sauce, every local delicacy in Ogun State tells a story of heritage and hospitality.

Destination Spotlight

Tucked deep within Ogun State lies one of Nigeria’s archaeological wonders, Sungbo Eredo.

Stretching over 160 km (100 miles) and reaching depths of up to 20 metres (66 feet) in some sections, Sungbo Eredo is one of the largest ancient earthworks in Africa. The defensive boundary extends from the Oke-Eri, Ijebu to Epe, Lagos, showcasing remarkable skills of an ancient civilisation.

Local oral history attributes the monument to Bilikisu Sungbo, believed by many to be the legendary Queen of Sheba.

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it stands as one of Ogun State’s most extraordinary heritage destinations, inviting visitors to explore a living piece of African history.

Beyond our iconic attractions, you’re invited to find more about Ogun State.
Come to where the stories are quieter, deeper, and far beyond just leisure.

1. Obafemi Awolowo Mausoleum | Ikenne (Remo)
The final resting place of Chief Obafemi Awolowo aka ‘Awo’ (1909–1987) - lawyer, nationalist, statesman, and one of Nigeria’s foremost political leaders. Widely regarded as the architect of modern Western Nigeria, Awolowo championed landmark policies including free primary education, free healthcare for children, and rural development, leaving a lasting legacy in governance and education. The mausoleum preserves his memory and contributions to Nigeria’s political history.

2. Ebute Oni Beach | Ijebu Waterside (Ijebu)
The beach gets its name from the Ebute Oni village which is situated closeby. It runs along the Lagos Lagoon line and the community is known for its fishing heritage, boat transportation, and unspoiled coastal landscape. Some key activities for visitors include beach games, picnics, water sports. Its tranquil waterfront, traditional way of life, and natural scenery make it one of Ogun State’s emerging eco- and coastal tourism destinations.

3. Celestial City | Imeko (Yewa)
Situated in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area, Celestial City is the international headquarters of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC). Every year, it welcomes thousands of worshippers from Nigeria and around the world for religious gatherings and spiritual retreats. Beyond deep devotion, it is a destination for tourists to learn about the origin of the CCC and the Founder, Reverend Prophet Samuel Oshoffa.

4. This heritage site honours Madam Efunroye Tinubu (early 1800–1887), one of the most influential women in Yoruba history. A renowned merchant, political leader, philanthropist, and advocate, she played significant roles in commerce, diplomacy, and resistance during the 19th century. The shrine preserves her legacy and enduring impact on Abeokuta, Lagos, and Nigeria’s history.

OTENIBOTEMOLE II, Olofin Adimula Oodua of Ado-Odo Awori Land Olofin Adimula Oodua presenting a Certificate of Appreciation to the Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Ogun State, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi Fagbayi Olusesan Abolaji represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Quudus Yusuff.

During his speech, Oba Olusola said the celebration had demonstrated that education and culture could thrive together, inspiring the older generation and reaffirming the value of cultural heritage in academic institutions. He charged the students to sustain their commitment to preserving and promoting Yoruba culture for future generations.
