APC DISOWNS HUNYE, REAFFIRMS YAYI AS OGUN 2027 GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE

…Says Hunye Remains Suspended, Warns Public Against Unauthorised Claims

The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned Mr. Abayomi Hunye’s claim to the party’s governorship ticket in Ogun State, reaffirming Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, FCA , popularly known as YAYI, as its duly nominated candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

In a disclaimer signed by the APC National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, the party described Hunye’s purported self-declaration as false and unauthorised, stressing that he remains suspended from the party and lacks the authority to represent the APC in any capacity.

According to the party, Hunye’s suspension originated from Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area and was subsequently ratified by the Ipokia Local Government Executive Committee and the Ogun State Working Committee. Documents released alongside the disclaimer showed that the disciplinary action was also formally communicated to the party’s national leadership.

The APC said the suspension followed allegations of activities considered injurious to the party and anti-party conduct capable of creating disaffection and division among members.

Putting the controversy over the Ogun governorship ticket to rest, the party declared that Senator Adeola remains its duly nominated and recognised governorship candidate, with Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as his running mate.

The party further disclosed that the names and particulars of Adeola and Abiodun had been successfully uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal. Acknowledgement documents accompanying the statement showed that their candidate profiles were submitted on August 7, 2026.

The APC warned individuals, groups and organisations against conducting political business with Hunye under the guise of the party, adding that its legal team had been instructed to take appropriate action over what it described as misrepresentation and impersonation.

It also urged media organisations and members of the public to disregard unauthorised claims regarding the APC governorship ticket while appealing to party supporters across Ogun State to remain calm and law-abiding.

With the latest clarification from the APC National Secretariat, the party maintained that Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI) and Balogun Kudirat Abiodun remain its recognised governorship and deputy governorship candidates for the 2027 Ogun State election.

Ogun Government Mourns Taiwo Hassan, Ogogo, Hails His Legacy of Excellence

The Ogun State Government has received with deep sadness the passing of veteran actor and filmmaker, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.

His death is a monumental loss to Ogun State, Nigeria’s creative industry and the entire nation. He was not merely an accomplished actor; he was a shining light whose remarkable talent, discipline and enduring commitment helped to elevate Nigerian culture and project the richness of Yoruba heritage to audiences at home and across the world.

Throughout his illustrious career, Taiwo Hassan distinguished himself by his exceptional artistry, humility, candour, dignity and respect for others. He carried himself with uncommon grace and professionalism, earning the admiration of colleagues, fans and generations of Nigerians.

As an Ilaro-born son of Ogun State, Ogogo remained a proud ambassador of his roots. Through his work in theatre, film and television, he contributed immensely to the preservation, promotion and propagation of Nigeria’s cultural heritage, particularly the Yoruba language, traditions and values.

His passing has therefore created a painful void that will be deeply felt—not only by his immediate family and the people of Ilaro and Ogun State, but also by the Nigerian artistic community, his countless admirers and the millions of people who encountered his work and were inspired by his talent.

On behalf of the Ogun State Government and the good people of the state, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues in the creative industry, the people of Ilaro and his numerous fans across Nigeria and beyond.

At this moment of grief, we celebrate the remarkable life he lived, the memories he created and the indelible legacy he leaves behind.

Taiwo Hassan, Ogogo, was a shining light. His voice may have fallen silent, but his works, values and contributions to our cultural heritage will continue to speak for generations.

He will be sorely missed.

May Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and give his family and all who mourn him the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss’ Governor Dapo Abiodun stated.

DISCLAIMER: SENATOR SOLOMON OLAMILEKAN ADEOLA (YAYI) REMAINS THE APC GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE FOR OGUN STATE

The attention of the Ogun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to statements and claims by one Abayomi Semako Hunye, who has been presenting himself as the governorship candidate of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Ogun State APC wishes to state clearly that Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, is the duly recognised governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State for the 2027 election.

Senator Adeola emerged from the party's governorship primary exercise with 304,055 votes out of the 305,287 accredited voters who participated in the exercise. Following the process, he selected Mrs. Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun as his deputy governorship running mate.

The names of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola and Mrs. Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun have subsequently been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party's governorship candidate and running mate for the 2027 election.

The Ogun State APC therefore dissociates itself from any contrary claim or declaration by Abayomi Semako Hunye or any other individual purporting to be the party's governorship candidate.

We urge party members, supporters and the general public to disregard such claims and rely only on official communications from the Ogun State APC and the relevant electoral authorities.

Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI) is the APC candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
