THE MATHEMATICS OF OGUN 2027
The road to the Ogun State Government House in 2027 is simple: numbers, geography and strategy.
Based on the 2023 voter register, Egba has 1,040,317 registered voters, Ijebu has 501,399, while Remo has 286,846. Together, these three blocs represent 1,828,562 registered voters—a massive electoral foundation for Ladi Adebutu if he consolidates his traditional strength and expands his appeal. Ogun State had 2,688,305 registered voters in 2023.
But the real strategic battleground is Ado-Odo/Ota. With 390,175 registered voters, it is the single largest electoral LGA in Ogun State. Its cosmopolitan population—made up of enlightened voters and Nigerians from different ethnic backgrounds—makes it less predictable and potentially more responsive to issue-based politics than a campaign built purely around ethnic or regional calculations.
For Adebutu, the mathematics is therefore clear: consolidate Egba, Ijebu and Remo, then play the spoiler in the Yewa/Awori axis by concentrating serious political energy on Ado-Odo/Ota.
In 2023, Ogun's governorship election was decided by only 13,915 votes: APC scored 276,298 against PDP's 262,383. That narrow margin shows that a significant shift in just one major electoral battleground can change the entire political equation.
When Egba, Ijebu, Remo and Ado-Odo/Ota make a clear decision, the mathematics changes completely. And in that equation, Yayi may simply find himself sneezing while the people of Ogun State are doing the voting.
