NNPCL Team Inspects Eba Oil Well as Ogun Moves Closer to Commercial Drilling

Abeokuta, Ogun State — A technical team from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has visited the Eba oil well in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area as preparations advance for the commencement of commercial drilling operations in the state.

The inspection followed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval for commercial exploration and forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to deploy the required technical capacity and infrastructure for production. Officials of NNPCL carried out the exercise alongside representatives of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and national security agencies to evaluate the site and confirm its readiness for drilling activities.

The delegation was led by Hussein Aliyu, Project Coordinator for Enserv, who headed the NNPCL Enserv technical team. Other members included Wasiu Adeniyi, Onwugba Kelechi, Engr. Rabiu M. Audu, Ojonoka Braimah, Ahmad Usman, Akinbosola Oluwaseyi, Salisu Nuhu, James Amezhinim, Yusuf Abdul-Azeez, Amararu Isukul and Livinus J. Kigbu.

Governor Dapo Abiodun described the development as a landmark achievement for Ogun State, saying the commencement of drilling at Eba would stimulate economic growth, create employment opportunities and attract increased federal presence to the state’s coastal communities.

Geological reports had earlier confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons within the Ogun Waterside axis, leading to preliminary surveys and technical engagements by NNPCL. The Ogun State Government also carried out an independent verification of the oil well’s coordinates, affirming that the discovery is located within the state’s boundaries.

To secure the project, naval security personnel have been deployed to the site for over 18 months, with the support of the Ogun State Government, to protect the facility and its environs.

The Eba oil well is regarded as part of Nigeria’s strategic move to expand oil production beyond the Niger Delta region. Stakeholders noted that the next phase would focus on regulatory compliance, community relations, environmental protection and the smooth take-off of commercial operations.

The state government also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his support toward the development of frontier oil basins and the equitable spread of the nation’s energy resources.

Ogun to Build ₦1bn AI-Powered Digital Classroom at Remo Secondary School — Abiodun

The Ogun State Government is constructing a 900-seater Artificial Intelligence-powered digital classroom complex valued at ₦1 billion at Remo Secondary School (RSS), Sagamu, as part of efforts to deepen technology-driven education in the state.

Governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed this during the school’s 80th anniversary celebration held on the school premises, describing the ultra-modern facility as a major investment aimed at equipping students for the demands of the 21st-century knowledge economy.

According to the governor, the digital classroom is part of broader smart-learning initiatives within the school, which already include a resource centre and a fully equipped robotics laboratory designed to promote innovation, creativity, and advanced digital skills.

“As a first step in providing continuous support, I am pledging the sum of ₦100 million to this institution.

“To underscore my commitment, I will release 50 per cent of the pledge — ₦50 million — next week. This is not all; I will ensure that before I leave office, we begin and complete at least one of the projects mentioned,” Abiodun said.

The governor further revealed that the state government has remodelled the school’s science laboratories, bringing them up to modern standards and equipping them with contemporary instructional tools to create safe and inspiring learning environments.

He added that both the boys’ and girls’ hostels have also been rehabilitated to enhance students’ comfort, safety, and overall welfare.

Describing Remo Secondary School as a heritage institution, Abiodun said the anniversary celebration represented more than the marking of years but the preservation of a living legacy.

“We are not just celebrating a school; we are celebrating a living institution,” he stated.

He commended the school’s old students for preserving its history and supporting its development, noting that their contributions reflect collective responsibility toward sustaining excellence.

“These are not merely assets; they are statements of belief in the future, symbols of our shared sacrifice, and proof of what is possible when vision aligns with commitment.

“I have discovered that this school is far more than a school; it is a heritage institution, collectively owned, nurtured, and sustained by a shared sense of responsibility,” the governor added.

Abiodun, who noted that RSS has been designated as one of the state’s flagship schools, urged students to embrace learning with passion, uphold integrity, and strive to live up to the legacy of excellence established by previous generations.

In a dramatic twist to a high-profile case, social media personality Adetoun Onajobi, widely known as ‘Justadetoun’, has fled Nigeria and is currently hiding in a neighbouring African country, This Newspaper can exclusively reveal. This development follows her formal arraignment on serious forgery charges alongside her personal physician.

Onajobi, who gained notoriety for her viral social media confession "How I went from a single mom of two to a sidechic, girlfriend and wife in 2000," is now at the centre of a widening legal and international manhunt. Authorities confirm she is attempting to reach the United Kingdom to seek asylum, a route she has pursued previously.

The Ogun State Police Command, in conjunction with the Ministry of Justice, filed a five-count charge against Onajobi and Dr. (Name withheld), about the alleged fabrication of medical reports. The charges, obtained by our newsroom, include Conspiracy, Forgery, Uttering of False Documents, Giving False Information to Public Servants, and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

In an exclusive statement in this Newspaper, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the suspect's flight.

“The defendant, Adetoun Onajobi, was duly charged before a court of competent jurisdiction. We have incontrovertible evidence that she has now absconded, violating her bail conditions and demonstrating a clear disregard for the judicial process,” he stated. “We are working with international channels, including Interpol, to track her movements. Fleeing does not absolve her of the serious allegations; it only compounds them.”

A senior official within the Ogun State Ministry of Justice, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, underscored the state’s resolve.

“This is not a simple matter. Investigations by this Newspaper reveal that Onajobi’s attempt to seek asylum in the UK is not her first. Reliable sources within immigration circles confirm that she previously filed an asylum application several years ago, following marital disputes with her first husband. That application was reportedly unsuccessful.

The Ogun State Government, under the leadership of Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun, CON, the Executive Governor of Ogun State, has pledged its readiness to the completion of the Idi Aba–Olokuta–Laderin Road, an assurance, aimed at complementing the ongoing intervention, facilitated by the Member representing Abeokuta South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Afọlábí Moruf Afuape.

The Governor, who made the promise on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, during the commissioning of the Laderin–Prof. Wole Soyinka Train Station Road stated that the state government would undertake the rehabilitation of the remaining stretch of the Idi Aba–Olokuta–Laderin axis to ensure its full completion, thereby facilitating easier access to the train station from the Idi Aba axis of Abeokuta.

Currently, a 1.8-kilometre section of the road from Idi Aba junction, inward Olokuta is under construction, through the intervention of Hon. Afuape. That affirms his commitment to improving road infrastructure and enhancing connectivity for residents of the area.

While reacting to the governor’s pledge, Hon. Afuape expressed profound appreciation to Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun for his readiness to, as a matter of urgency, see to the completion of the entire road. He described the commitment as a timely and people-oriented decision that would significantly ease movement, boost economic activities, and improve the overall quality of life of residents along the corridor.

The development shows a growing synergy between the Ogun State federal legislators and the state government in terms of interventions and efforts, aimed at accelerating infrastructural development and improving the quality of life for the people of Ogun State.

Anthony Joshua Recuperating After Lagos–Ibadan Expressway Accident

World boxing champion Anthony Joshua is recuperating in hospital following a road traffic accident that occurred along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on Monday.

The accident, which occurred around midday, involved a Toyota Lexus jeep conveying Joshua and three other passengers. Two passengers lost their lives in the incident. They were identified as Ayodele Kelvin Olu (36), a Nigerian/British citizen, and Gami Sina (36), a British citizen.

The Ogun State Government confirmed the incident and expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased.

Upon receiving information about the accident, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, visited the hospital where Joshua was receiving treatment. He was later joined by Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Both governors remained at the hospital for several hours to oversee the situation and ensure that appropriate medical care was provided.

Speaking on the incident, Governor Abiodun said he immediately proceeded to the hospital upon receiving the report and personally monitored Joshua’s treatment alongside Governor Sanwo-Olu.

“As soon as I was informed, I headed straight to the hospital and was later joined by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. We both took charge of the situation, oversaw Anthony Joshua’s care, and remained at the hospital for over seven hours,” the governor said.

Other senior officials who visited the hospital included the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, and the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Mr. Bukola Olopade, who offered institutional and professional support.

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, was fully briefed on the incident. According to government sources, the President spoke separately with Anthony Joshua, his mother, and Governor Abiodun, during which he conveyed his sympathies and condolences.

The British High Commission was formally notified of the accident. Officials of the Mission are monitoring developments and remain in contact with the hospital and the Ogun State Government. The Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Simon Field, visited the hospital and met with Anthony Joshua and the two governors. The families of the deceased have also been contacted through the High Commission.

The Ogun State Government said Anthony Joshua remains in a stable condition and is receiving appropriate medical attention. It added that it is satisfied with the quality of care being provided by the medical team.

Governor Abiodun assured the public that every effort was being made to ensure the best possible medical care for the boxing champion.

“We are comfortable with the doctors and the quality of care at the hospital, and we appreciate the medical team for their professionalism,” he said.

Authorities have ordered a full and diligent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. According to the state government, details of the investigation will be made public upon its conclusion.

The Ogun State Government said it would continue to provide updates on Joshua’s condition and other developments related to the incident as necessary.

Quoting President Tinubu, Governor Abiodun added:

“This immense tragedy has cast a deep shadow over this season. These are very difficult moments, and we must stand firm, united, and encourage one another as brothers and sisters with a shared destiny”
