SURPRISE VISIT: CHIEF COMMISSIONER BASHIR ABUBAKAR, MFR, STORMS OGUN STATE PUBLIC COMPLAINTS OFFICE IN UNANNOUNCED INSPECTION.

The Honourable Chief Commissioner (HCC), Hon. Bashir Abubakar, MFR, paid an unscheduled visit to the Public Complaints Commission (PCC), Ogun State Office, on Friday, 29th May 2026. He was received on arrival by the Honourable Federal Commissioner (HFC), Ogun State, Hon. Morakinyo OgoOluwa Akinleye, and other members of staff on ground.

The Honourable Chief Commissioner was conducted round the office facilities by the Honourable Federal Commissioner and was shown the various sections of the Commission. Staff members also gathered to welcome him and receive his goodwill message.

During an interactive session with senior officers and members of staff, the Honourable Chief Commissioner highlighted some of the achievements recorded under the current leadership of the Commission. He noted that efforts had been made to address internal challenges within the Commission, including resolving disagreements between management and labour unions and eliminating fraudulent practices that had negatively affected the system.

The Honourable Chief Commissioner informed staff that the Commission had requested improved budgetary allocations and enhanced welfare packages for staff. He stated that significant progress had been made through constructive engagement with relevant stakeholders, resulting in increased government attention to the Commission's needs. He further disclosed ongoing efforts aimed at improving staff remuneration and securing additional funding for both the Commission's headquarters and state offices.

Speaking on organizational development, the Honourable Chief Commissioner emphasized that the growth and success of every institution is a collective responsibility. He encouraged staff members to continue supporting one another and to remain committed to their duties, stressing that the Commission renders a vital service to the public free of charge and therefore performs a noble and humanitarian function.

The Honourable Chief Commissioner also informed staff that the Commission had established a strong and productive relationship with the National Assembly, which has contributed positively to ongoing reforms within the institution. He disclosed that effort is underway to amend the Public Complaints Commission Act with necessary proposals to stabilize the administrative structure of the Commission for consideration.

He further commended the leadership of the Ogun State Office, particularly the Honourable Federal Commissioner, Hon. Morakinyo OgoOluwa Akinleye, for his resourceful coordination, collaboration and proactive leadership. According to him, reports reaching the headquarters concerning the activities of the Ogun State Office has been highly commendable, earning the office an A+ rating.

The Honourable Chief Commissioner further revealed plans to create new opportunities and Directorates in the Commission as part of ongoing reforms. He encouraged staff to contribute innovative ideas that will foster progress, improve service delivery and strengthen the Commission's mandate.

He urged staff members to remain patient with the government and continue working towards building a stronger institution for future generations. He emphasized the importance of constructive engagement, noting that silence in the face of challenges or achievements could hinder organizational progress. He also informed staff that government efforts to improve the salary structure is ongoing and encouraged them to stay informed on developments affecting their welfare.

In conclusion, the Honourable Chief Commissioner wished all staff success in their duties and encouraged them to remain patient and supportive of one another. He particularly urged staff to continue supporting the Honourable Federal Commissioner, Ogun State in view of his proactive leadership style and commitment to the growth of the Ogun State Office.

In his remarks, the Asst Director of Accounts & Head Of Investigation (Public), Mr. Bankole Ogunyale expressed appreciation to the Honourable Chief Commissioner for honouring the Ogun State Office with his visit. He commended the HFC for repositioning PCC through strategic engagements, courtesy visits, and various initiatives aimed at enhancing the Commission's visibility and effectiveness.

He also appealed for the implementation of improved staff welfare measures, the proposed salary structure, and settlement of outstanding arrears. He expressed gratitude to the Honourable Chief Commissioner for the ongoing efforts to sanitize the system and promote industrial harmony within the Commission. He further appealed that officers due for promotion examinations be given the opportunity to sit for them as scheduled to prevent future accumulation of promotion-related arrears and ensure smooth implementation of any forthcoming salary adjustments.

The visit ended on a cordial note, with staff expressing appreciation for the Honourable Chief Commissioner's visit and his commitment to the welfare and progress of the Commission.

The HCC left the office in company of his host, HFC to attend the Wedding ceremony of the son of HFC, Kogi State, Hon Deinde Abolarin, held at OOPL, Abeokuta.
Lastly to round up the special visit, the Honourable Federal Commissioner, Hon. Morakinyo OgoOluwa Akinleye, took the Honourable Chief Commissioner, Hon. Bashir Abubakar, MFR, to the proposed permanent site of the Public Complaints Commission, Ogun State. The visit afforded the Honourable Chief Commissioner the opportunity to assess the site and receive updates on efforts towards securing a permanent office accommodation for the Commission.

The Honourable Chief Commissioner commended the initiative and encouraged continued engagement with relevant stakeholders to ensure the successful realization of the project, noting that a permanent office would enhance the Commission's operations and service delivery.

THRIVING BEYOND SURVIVAL: HON. AKINLEYE, JUSTICE OGUNFOWORA AND OTHER LEGAL TITANS DROP GAME-CHANGING TRUTHS AT THE NBA-YLF SUMMIT 2026.

The Nigerian Bar Association Young Lawyers Forum *(NBA-YLF),* Abeokuta Branch, Ogun State, held its Summit on Thursday, 21st May, 2026 at The Event Tower, beside Park Inn by Radisson, Kuto, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The Summit was themed:
*“Thriving Beyond Survival: Young Lawyers at the Forefront of Change, Innovation & Impact.”*

The programme was organized to equip young lawyers with practical knowledge and insights on leadership, innovation, professional development and opportunities within and beyond traditional legal practice in an increasingly interconnected world.

The event featured distinguished personalities within the legal profession, including *Honourable Justice Olugboyega Ogunfowora, Judge of the Ogun State High Court of Justice,* and the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Abeokuta Branch, Ogun State, *Chief Kayode Aderemi.*

One of the major highlights of the event was the panel discussions, which featured seasoned professionals and distinguished personalities from different sectors. The Summit had two panel sessions, with four panelists in each session, making a total of eight panelists.

The Honourable Federal Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission, *Hon. Morakinyo Ogooluwa Akinleye,* participated as a panelist in one of the sessions titled:
*“From Wig and Gown to Global Impact: Positioning Nigerian Lawyers for the World Stage – Cross-Border Practice and Competitiveness.”*

The panel sessions focused on issues relating to professional excellence, global competitiveness, leadership, public service, innovation and emerging opportunities for young legal practitioners. Panelists shared practical experiences, professional insights and recommendations aimed at inspiring young lawyers to become more impactful and globally relevant in their careers.

The Honourable Federal Commissioner used the opportunity to appreciate the Bench and Bar in the Ogun State Judiciary for creating the opportunity to cement further the synergy between PCC and the Judiciary in ensuring conflict resolution, and given administrative justice to the citizens.
He further acknowledged various referrals of cases from the Bench, which were always dispensed with by PCC.
The Honourable Federal Commissioner looked up to further collaborations with both the Bar and the Bench in the dispensation of justice to the people of Ogun State.

The event also provided an avenue for networking, mentorship, and engagement among legal practitioners and stakeholders within the legal profession.

Overall, the Summit was well attended and featured distinguished personalities within the legal profession and beyond. It successfully achieved its objectives of encouraging young lawyers to thrive beyond limitations and contribute meaningfully to society and the legal profession.
