As the founder of The Yellow House Library (Now The Babatunde Babafemi Educational Foundation) discovering this post was a truly heartening moment. It is an honor to see our past and continuous efforts in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, mentioned alongside national initiatives like those in Denmark.
Our mission has always been rooted in the belief that a child's economic background should never dictate their access to the transformative power of a story. Seeing our students re-enroll in school and reclaim their confidence is the ultimate reward, but having that work recognized by Embassy of Denmark in Nigeria gives our community an extra boost of inspiration.
Reading isn't just a skill - it's a bridge to a better future. Thank you for helping us shine a light on the importance of literacy in Nigeria.
Thank you for this recognition! I hope that in the future, we can foster a collaboration that will elevate the conversation surrounding literacy in Nigeria. I would love to see our actual local library featured further in your future media presentations
Happy World Book Day!📚
Not too long ago, celebrating a day dedicated to books might have looked unnecessary. But today, as we journey through a world overflowing with information, the simple act of reading has become more important than ever. Books offer us a chance to slow down, dive into different worlds, and truly connect with stories and ideas.
In Denmark 🇩🇰, initiatives like the national program launched in 2023 aims to build a strong reading culture among children and young people. Similarly, in Nigeria 🇳🇬, many projects are in place to rekindle the love for books. One inspiring example is the 'Yellow House Library' in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. It provides children from low-income households with access to reading materials and educational support, helping many re-enroll in school and excel in their studies.
On this special day, let us continue to nurture the love for reading, and empower and strengthen the communities around us.
