Urgent Resolution of Unpaid Npower Stipends and Continuation of the Npower Programme
Dear Honorable Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Yilwada ,
We are writing to bring to your esteemed attention the pressing issue of unpaid stipends for Npower beneficiaries and to advocate for the continuation of the Npower programme. This matter is of utmost importance, given the significant impact it has on the lives of many young Nigerians who rely on this initiative for their livelihood and skill development.
1. Unpaid Stipends: A Critical Issue
For over a year, numerous Npower beneficiaries have diligently fulfilled their roles and responsibilities without receiving their promised stipends. This delay has caused severe financial hardship, especially in the current economic climate where the cost of living continues to rise. These young individuals joined the Npower programme with the expectation of receiving monthly financial support to sustain their basic needs while gaining valuable work experience. The prolonged delay in stipend payments has not only undermined their financial stability but also eroded their trust in the programme.
2. The Importance of Clearing Unpaid Stipends
Clearing the backlog of unpaid stipends is crucial for several reasons:
A. Financial Relief: Many beneficiaries depend on these stipends for essential expenses such as food, housing, and healthcare. The delay has left them struggling to meet their daily needs.
B. Moral Obligation: The government has a moral responsibility to honor its commitments to these young Nigerians who have faithfully served their communities.
C. Restoring Trust: Prompt payment of the outstanding stipends will help restore trust in the Npower programme and the government’s commitment to supporting its youth.
3. The Need for Continuation of the Npower Programme
The Npower programme plays a vital role in addressing youth unemployment and fostering economic stability. Here are key reasons why it should continue:
A. Skill Development: Npower provides beneficiaries with hands-on experience and training in various fields, enhancing their employability and preparing them for sustainable careers.
B. Economic Empowerment: By offering financial support and skill development, the programme empowers young Nigerians to become self-sufficient and contribute positively to the economy.
C. Social Impact: The programme helps reduce poverty and social inequality by providing opportunities for disadvantaged youth to improve their socio-economic status.
4. The High Cost of Living
The current economic situation in Nigeria has exacerbated the challenges faced by Npower beneficiaries. The high cost of living has made it increasingly difficult for them to survive without the stipends they were promised1. Many have had to take on additional jobs or rely on family support, which is not always sustainable.
Conclusion
In light of the above, we respectfully urge you to prioritize the immediate disbursement of unpaid stipends to Npower beneficiaries and to ensure the continuation of this essential programme. By doing so, you will not only alleviate the financial burden on these young Nigerians but also reaffirm the government’s commitment to their welfare and development.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
Sincerely,
Nasimsng
