NASS OPEN WEEK 2026 | DAY II
Today, I participated in Day Two of the National Assembly Open Week 2026, which featured the National Security and Traditional Rulers Roundtable.
The roundtable brought together legislators, security chiefs, governors, traditional rulers, development partners, civil society organisations, and policy experts to deliberate on legislative pathways for strengthening Nigeria's security architecture, with particular emphasis on the proposed establishment of State Police.
The insightful discussions highlighted the urgent need for collaborative and innovative approaches to addressing the nation's security challenges. As Chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs, I believe that strengthening our security institutions through sound legislation and strategic partnerships remains critical to safeguarding lives and property.
I was particularly encouraged by the keynote address delivered by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, who described the Executive Bill on State Police as a landmark constitutional reform that seeks to balance decentralised policing with effective national oversight.
I remain committed to supporting legislative reforms and policies that will strengthen Nigeria's security architecture, promote peace, and ensure a safer future for our people.
Together, through unity, cooperation, and responsible leadership, we can build a more secure and prosperous Nigeria for generations to come.
