Why Innovative Financing Matters
Rethinking How We Finance Social Protection
Social protection systems require sustainable resources.
Yet governments and development partners face increasing demands to support vulnerable populations, address poverty and strengthen resilience.
This makes the search for innovative and sustainable financing mechanisms increasingly important.
Within D-8 HSP, the Innovative and Sustainable Financing pillar explores opportunities to mobilise additional resources that can complement existing financing mechanisms.
Islamic social finance presents one such opportunity.
Through the Ummah Zakat Foundation, D-8 HSP is exploring how Zakat, Sadaqah, Waqf and other forms of Islamic philanthropy can be more effectively mobilised and channelled towards eligible beneficiaries.
The ambition is to move from fragmented giving towards structured, transparent and accountable systems capable of supporting social protection and improved livelihoods.

Introducing the Flagship Concept
Innovating the Financing of Social Protection
How can countries unlock additional resources to support vulnerable populations and strengthen social protection?
This is one of the questions at the heart of the Innovative and Sustainable Financing pillar of the D-8 Health and Social Protection Programme (D-8 HSP).
As part of this effort, D-8 HSP is advancing the Ummah Zakat Foundation (UZF) as a flagship concept exploring how Zakat and other forms of Islamic philanthropy can contribute to social protection, poverty reduction and improved livelihoods.
At the centre of the initiative is EazyZakat, a digital platform designed to facilitate the calculation, giving, collection, distribution and tracking of Zakat.
Together, UZF and EazyZakat seek to demonstrate how Islamic social finance, institutional governance and digital technology can be brought together to create more transparent, accountable and sustainable mechanisms for supporting vulnerable communities.
This is more than giving.
It is about innovating how we finance social protection.
