Ambassador Mersole J. Mellejor received Dr. (Mrs.) Gladys Mansa Yawa Feddy Akyea, Deputy High Commissioner of Ghana to Nigeria, at the Philippine Embassy in Abuja on 24 August 2026.

They discussed bilateral relations between the Philippines and Ghana and exchanged views on multilateral issues that are of mutual interest to both countries.

PHL AMBASSADOR RECEIVES OFFICIALS FROM NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR STRATEGIC STUDIES

On Monday, 24 August 2026, Ambassador Mersole J. Mellejor received a delegation from the National Institute for Strategic Studies (NISS) headed by Ms. Vivian Ogwude Okpeh, Director for Coordination and Liaison Services.

The NISS is one Nigeria’s premier institutions for education and training in the fields of security and intelligence. The NISS caters to senior officers and professionals from security, intelligence, military, paramilitary, and relevant government agencies as well as from the private sector.

The discussions centered on potential areas of cooperation and advancing issues of mutual interest between the Philippines and Nigeria.

FCAA CELEBRATES FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY AND ELECTS NEW OFFICERS

The Philippine Embassy hosted the celebration of the 4th founding anniversary of the Filipino Community Association in Abuja (FCAA) organized by FCAA officials at 34B Rhine Street, Abuja, on 23 August 2026.

The programme featured typical Filipino salu-salo and performances by FCAA members and personnel of the Philippine Embassy.

The election of a new set of FCAA officials also took place. Ambassador Mersole J. Mellejor administered the oath of the new FCAA officials who will lead the association until 2028.

In his goodwill message, Ambassador Mellejor affirmed the Embassy’s desire to extend continued support and assistance to the FCAA within its mandate, and wished the new FCAA officials a productive and successful tenure.

Other embassy officials congratulated the new officers and expressed their readiness to work with the FCAA in promoting the welfare of Filipinos and advancing Philippine interests in Nigeria.

PHILIPPINE EMBASSY HOLDS TOWN HALL MEETING WITH FILIPINO COMMUNITY

The Philippine Embassy in Nigeria held a Town Hall Meeting with Filipinos in Abuja on Sunday, 23 August 2026.

The meeting provided an opportunity for officials led by Ambassador Mersole J. Mellejor to update the Filipino community on the services of the embassy as well as initiatives in keeping with the four (4) pillars of Philippine foreign policy - national security, economic diplomacy, cultural diplomacy and assistance to nationals.

The embassy officials encouraged the Filipino community to be abreast with Philippine government services that are vital to them as members of the diaspora by downloading the eGovph application.

The embassy also shared important insights to the Filipino community on the importance of keeping their travel documents safe and updated as well as tips on how to ensure their personal safety and optimum health in Nigeria.

More importantly, the meeting served as a platform to highlight the important role that the Filipino community plays in Philippine economic and cultural diplomacy.

PHILIPPINES JOINS 2026 WOMEN IN BUSINESS AND POLITICS SUMMIT

The Philippine Embassy joined the second Women in Business and Politics Lecture and Award Summit in Abuja on 21 August 2026, which celebrated women’s excellence, leadership, and impact.

Third Secretary and Vice Consul Lynn R. Gutierrez participated as a panelist on selfless humanitarian service and described the Summit as timely, relevant, and necessary. She highlighted the Philippines’ progress in Gender and Development and affirmed the country’s readiness for deeper cooperation with Nigeria. She was joined by Alternate GAD Focal Point Officer Ms. Czarlene Ramos.

Also present was Ms. Joy Akut, Special Assistant on Youth and Women Affairs to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. The Embassy congratulates the organizers and awardees and looks forward to continued collaboration in advancing women’s leadership.

PH AMBASSADOR CALLS ON NIGERIA’S MINISTER OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS

Philippine Ambassador Mersole J. Mellejor paid his courtesy call on Nigerian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye on 20 August 2026.

During the call, Ambassador Mellejor and Ambassador Enikanolaiye discussed relations between the Philippines and Nigeria.

They also exchanged views on further expanding cooperation between the two (2) countries in such areas as trade and investment, energy, higher education, labor and migration, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

YOUNG LEADERS, NEW BRIDGES 🇵🇭🤝🇳🇬

Delegates from the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Nigeria paid their courtesy visit at the Philippine Embassy in Abuja on 19 August 2026 for a lively exchange on youth leadership and Philippines–Nigeria cooperation. The JCI delegation is preparing to participate in the JCI World Congress hosted by the Philippines at Clark Green City in November 2026.

The delegates shared how JCI equips young people with leadership experience and creates opportunities in entrepreneurship, international networking and community development. Discussions looked beyond the upcoming Congress to promising partnerships in education, business process outsourcing, the creative industries, medical tourism, hospitality and other service sectors.

Ambassador Mellejor encouraged JCI Nigeria to connect with Philippine counterparts and help transform the energy and expertise of young professionals into practical, mutually beneficial initiatives. With some JCI Nigeria members set to attend the 2026 JCI World Congress in Clark, Philippines, the meeting also provided an opportunity to share some valuable insights to the delegation on travel to the Philippines.

The guests were treated with a taste of the Philippines through “Pinoy Crunch”—a canapé made with SkyFlakes crackers and 555 Sardines. The meeting opened an exciting path for young Nigerians and Filipinos to exchange ideas, discover opportunities and build new bridges between the two countries.

Ambassador Mersole J. Mellejor warmly welcomed Vietnam’s Ambassador-Designate, H.E. Le Viet Hoang, to Nigeria during a courtesy visit to the Philippine Embassy in Abuja.

Their friendly exchange highlighted the close ties between the Philippines and Vietnam as ASEAN partners and neighbors in a dynamic region. Both looked forward to working closely through the ASEAN Committee in Abuja and strengthening ASEAN engagement in Nigeria.
