I met with the House of Representatives' Committee on National Planning and Economic Development today to update them on the progress of our ongoing efforts to design a comprehensive national development plan.

In line with President Muhammadu Buhari 's directive for an all-inclusive plan, I noted that the planning process will involve participation from Sub-nationals [State and Local Governments], major political parties, National Assembly, Youth & Women organizations and other relevant
stakeholders.

I also took the opportunity to inform the meeting that aside from the successor plan to the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, we are working simultaneously on two Medium-Term National Development Plans (MTNDPs 2021-2025 & 2026-2030) for the country and the Nigerian Agenda 2050.

The first MTNDP is anchored on President Buhari's commitment to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty while the vision for the Long Term Plan will be developed by the Steering Committee, chaired by Mr. Atedo Peterside and Co-chaired by HM of Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed.

Today, I had the honour of inaugurating the Central Working Group For The Preparation Of The Medium-Term National Development Plans (MTNDPs) 2021 – 2025, (2026-2030) And Agenda 2050.⁣

The inauguration of the CWG became imperative given the fact that the existing plans are expected to lapse in December 2020 and the 2021 Budget is to be guided by the Plan.⁣

The team members comprise individuals from both public and private sectors who were selected based on their wealth of experience, expertise, and dedication to national assignments over the years.⁣

The group will be chaired by Dr. [Mrs.] Sarah Alade [former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank & now Special Adviser to the President on Finance & Economy] while Amb. Adeyemi Dipeolu, Special Adviser to the President on Economic Matters, Office of the VP will be the deputy chairman.⁣

These initiatives are designed to succeed the current Nigeria Vision 20:2020 and the Economic Recovery & Growth Plan [ERGP] 2017 – 2020 respectively. They are also to address developmental challenges in all aspects of the country’s national life within the agreed time frame.⁣

The committee will be responsible for prioritizing policies, programmes, projects, and interventions for Nigeria’s rapid economic development and recommending strategies to support effective implementation of identified development priorities among other tasks.⁣

For a robust long-term perspective plan, I also recommended the application of the concept of Futurology as it would not only help with postulating probable and preferable futures but also aid in creating the future we desire.⁣

The CWG is expected to produce and submit the final draft of the first MTNDP 2021 – 2025 to the Steering Committee not later than September 30, 2020 and the second MTNDP 2026-2030 in February 2021, while their final report for the Nigeria Agenda 2050 should be in July 2021.⁣

Today, I virtually inaugurated the Joint Planning Committee (JPC) for the 26th Nigerian Economic Summit (NES#26), scheduled to hold in October 2020.

The summit which is jointly organized by the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning and Nigerian Economic Summit provides a unique opportunity for participants from the Public and Private sectors to discuss key issues facing the Nigerian economy, with a view to agreeing on a common strategy for addressing them.

I stated that the key mandate of the JPC was to undertake all preparatory arrangements for the successful hosting of the upcoming summit.

The JPC will also be responsible for the mobilisation of relevant public and private sector stakeholders for the summit especially at the Federal, State, and Local Government levels.

At the meeting, I also informed attendees of some milestones recorded by the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning and the Nigerian Economic Summit since the 25th Summit held in October last year and the broad strategies developed to prevent a deep recession and to further accelerate quick recovery of the economy.

I further emphasized the aptness of the theme for NES#26 Summit, “Building Partnerships for Resilience’’ as it would provide a veritable platform for stakeholders to reflect on the state of the Nigerian economy and deliberate on the impact of the global pandemic.

At the 11th virtual meeting of Community of Practice (CoP) involving Commissioners of Economic Planning yesterday, I commended many state governments that have begun to adopt measures for aggressive diversification of their revenue bases in order to reduce dependency on diminishing allocations from the Federation Account.

Speaking on the theme: “COVID-19: Strategies for quick recovery of the economy,” I noted that their effort was in line with the Federal Government’s desire to address challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.

I also informed the meeting that the Federal Government’s total estimated stimulus package was N2.3 trillion, consisting of N500b FG Intervention Funds; N1.2 trillion CBN Intervention Funds; N334b BoI/bilateral/multilateral interventions and additional FGN support of N300b.

These interventions, I pointed out would create employment opportunities for our growing youth population, empower farmers & entrepreneurs, use up to 100 percent of local materials; conserve foreign exchange & have guaranteed offtake of outputs, especially in agriculture & housing

I further urged states to emulate the economic recovery steps taken by the FG by coming up with more policy options for a quick recovery of the economy with the following measures in mind: adopting a targeted and integrated policy response; and, dealing decisively and proactively with pubic health safety issues, among others.

I delivered a goodwill message yesterday at the virtual inception workshop on Nigeria’s Integrated National Planning Financing Framework (INFF).

The workshop is one of those knowledge-based initiatives which would help to develop a roadmap that could support progress across a range of areas, including the mainstreaming of SDGs and other global and regional development agendas into our national development plans.

Similarly, the INFF, as I stated in my message, provides a unique opportunity to strengthen the link between planning and financing, as well as providing the nexus between policy functions and the necessary reforms to enable resource mobilization for development.

The Honourable Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, has endorsed the new website launched by the Nigerian Government to set out the facts of our ongoing legal battle with the vulture-fund-backed P&ID, as we fight to overturn a scam gas deal the shell company procured through corruption.

Almost 10 Billion US Dollars is at stake which is more than eight times our national health budget, and well over a quarter of our gross foreign reserves.

According to Prince Agba, Nigeria can simply not afford to have our future threatened by a shell company.

In recent months the federal government has uncovered clear and concrete evidence that the gas deal, executed by P&ID and former government officials, was procured fraudulently.

The Minister reiterated that the Federal Government is committed to overturning the sham agreement and securing justice for the people of Nigeria.

Please visit https://Nigeria-pandidcase.org our new fact-checking website for accurate information on the case to counter fake news and misinformation from P&ID.

I feel in my veins to suggest that if Sambisa forest was meant to prevent desert encroachment and to serve as Wildlife Game Reserve and today is serving as a hatching ground for the wicked, a place for onslaught of our gallant soldiers, a base for kidnapping, nurturing, recruiting, & training our adversaries, government, our legislatures and concerned Nigerians should as a matter of urgency think about evacuating that forest. If that forest is removed, insurgency will become baseless and defenceless. The level we are loosing our military men and weapons in hundreds everyday is not good. We are sleeping comfortably why officers are under the sun & rain to defend our territories, they are not enjoying their benefits and missing their families for our sake. As a matter of fact let's stop complaining but rise to do the needful and support these officers for their good job well-done. The laurels of a football team comes as a result of the teamwork and cheering support of the fans and spectators. Our Senators/Reps should look into the welfare of military & paramilitary with high esteem too. Let's stop politicking with the precious lives of our dear citizens that voted us to power, it is becoming fearful to join armed forces again if it means to die a month after leaving depot. If it continue this way, vacancies for new recruitment in armed forces will be deserted. Lets think about thousands that have gone about insurgency. Feel as a concerned Nigerian. Thank you all. May God have mercy on us. God bless military & paramilitary, God bless the lives of the fallen heroes, God bless Federal Republic of Nigeria, Amen.

A MILLION JOBS IS POSSIBLE! What if we decide by the year 2021- all imported vehicle brands coming into Nigeria will attracts 10(X) the cost of Vehicle Licencing & Renewal - in favour of Nigerian-made brands? I suggest this as our own home-grown strategy needed to attract the much needed technology transfer, employment & wealth generation, and by extension; from tax improvements to dollar conservation etc. Imagine the kind of patronage our Nigerian-made brands will derive from all the sectors of the economy if fully implemented. Furthermore, in the short-term of it's implementation, 30% of the proceeds can as well be converted as grants to local spare part manufacturers, including soft loans to purchase a Nigerian-made brands. I believe a million jobs is possible if we replicate the achievements made on agriculture to technology. I think It's time we stop exporting the jobs we need!

And lastly the federal government should check those on their adoption list as I have taken no adoption beneficiary from any man named oyebuchi and I have taken no money on adoption from the Canadian and usa government to toronto city or new York city and I have taken no money on adoption from the nigerian federal government and imo state government.
