The Comptroller General, KN Nandap, pcc, fsmn, represented by the Deputy Comptroller General, Visa and Residency, DCG Franca Nwanneka, alongside members of the NIS Top Management, received a Senate delegation led by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) and Senator representing Kano South Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, on a fact-finding visit to the Service Headquarters, Abuja.

2. The visit focused on addressing concerns raised by his constituents and other Nigerians regarding the migration of passport production from various passport offices in the country to the centralised production facility in Abuja. The visit also provided the delegation with an opportunity to witness and understand the ongoing reform in passport administration.

3. The engagement further highlighted government rationale behind the centralised passport production system, its security implications, the elimination of sharp practices along the passport processing chain, improved efficiency, transparency and accountability in passport production, as well as the phased migration from locations across the country and abroad. The Service also clarified that all passport centres remain operational, with application submission, enrolment and biometric capture continuing at all designated centres.

4. The Senator expressed satisfaction with the explanations provided by the Service and commended the reform as championed by both the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and the Comptroller-General of Immigration, while also assuring the NIS of the support of the National Assembly towards the successful implementation of the initiative.

NIS REPOSITIONS AIRPORT OPERATIONS FOR PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE AND ENHANCED SERVICE DELIVERY THROUGH CAPACITY BUILDING

The Nigeria Immigration Service, under the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, pcc, fsmn, has successfully concluded a two-week capacity-building training for personnel of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Command, Abuja. The training, a first in a series designed for personnel of NIS airport formations across the country was held from 28th July to 7th August 2026 at the Shehu Shagari Conference Hall, Service Headquarters. It focused on strengthening operational efficiency, professionalism, ethical conduct and Service Delivery.

2. Themed “Repositioning NIS Airport Operations for Professional Excellence, Ethical Conduct and Enhanced Service Delivery,” the training was executed to instill practical knowledge and skills in passenger profiling, visa and entry verification, passenger and crew clearance, queue management, MIDAS and e-Gates, apron operations, hostmanship, ethical conduct and anti-corruption practices.

3. The capacity-building programme was introduced in response to the evolving demands of modern airport operations, increased passenger traffic, and the growing use of technology in border management. It is designed to ensure that NIS personnel are adequately equipped to effectively address emerging operational challenges.

4. The Nigeria Immigration Service remains committed to continuously improving its airport operations through professional capacity development, innovation, accountability and adherence to global best practices, tailored towards effective Border Security and enhancing international travelers experience.

NIGERIA IMMIGRATION SERVICE RECEIVES OPERATIONAL VEHICLES TO STRENGTHEN OPERATIONAL CAPACITY

The Nigeria Immigration Service hosted a delegation from the German Federal Police, led by Mr. Neils Zimmermann, Head of Department 42, at the Service Headquarters, Sauka, Abuja. The visit also featured the formal handover of operational vehicles to the Service, underscoring the growing partnership between both institutions.

2.The Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, pcc, fsmn, welcomed the delegation and described the partnership as a testament to the strong bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Germany. She commended German Government for the kind gesture and noted that the donated operational vehicles would significantly enhance the Service’s operational mobility and effectiveness in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities.

3.In his remarks, Mr. Neils Zimmermann, Head of Department 42, German Federal Police, reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Immigration Service in strengthening institutional capacity and promoting effective Migration Management. He expressed confidence that the collaboration would continue to yield mutual benefits in addressing transnational migration challenges.

NIGERIA IMMIGRATION SERVICE DEEPENS COMMITMENT TO DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION THROUGH AI AND BLOCKCHAIN TRAINING

The ICT and Cybersecurity Directorate, of the Nigeria Immigration Service, on Tuesday, 28th July, 2026, commenced the second phase of it’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Blockchain Capacity Building Programme for officers of the Service at the NIS Headquarters, Sauka, Abuja.

2. In her welcome address, the Deputy Comptroller-General, Augusta Obianime, psc, pcc, Head of ICT and Cybersecurity Directorate, appreciated the Comptroller-General for her support towards innovation and digital transformation. She noted that following the success of the first phase, an Inter-Directorate AI and Blockchain Committee was established, while the training was expanded to 220 officers in two batches. She urged participants to apply the knowledge gained to improve efficiency and Service Delivery.

3. The Comptroller-General, KN Nandap, pcc, fsmn, represented by Deputy Comptroller-General FU Nwanneka, Head of Visa and Residency Directorate, while declaring the training open, reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to continuous learning and innovation. She emphasized that while AI offers significant opportunities to improve operational efficiency, intelligence-led Migration Management, and Service Delivery, its success depends on the competence and professionalism of officers. She commended the ICT Directorate, facilitators, and organizing committee for advancing the Service’s digital transformation agenda.

4. The programme featured sessions on AI concepts and applications, Blockchain technology, AI ethics and data protection, and AI-Blockchain integration for NIS digital operations, with a focus on enhancing Migration Management, Border Governance, institutional efficiency, and national security.

5. The initiative reflects the Service commitment to developing a digitally skilled workforce and leveraging emerging technologies to strengthen operational excellence, Service Delivery, and Border Security in line with global best practices.
