The 2026 China-Nigeria Food Festival was held in Abuja on August 27, bringing together the flavours, music and traditions of both countries.

From Kung Pao Chicken and Nanjing Salted Duck to Jollof Rice and Pounded Yam, guests enjoyed a vibrant celebration of food and culture. Traditional dances and music added to the festive atmosphere. 🍴

✨ Qixi Festival: China’s Celebration of Love 💕
Did you know China has its own traditional festival of love? 🌙✨

The Qixi Festival falls on the seventh day of the seventh month of the Chinese lunar calendar. Its origins can be traced back to the Han Dynasty, and it is inspired by the romantic legend of Niulang (the Cowherd) and Zhinyu (the Weaver Girl). According to the story, the two lovers are separated by the Milky Way and can meet only once a year on a bridge formed by magpies. 🌌🕊

🌸 Traditional customs
In the past, young women participate in activities such as threading needles under moonlight to showcase their embroidery skills, a practice known as "Begging for Skills". Other customs include making molded breads called "qiaoguo", releasing river lanterns to symbolize the illumination of the Magpie Bridge, and admiring the clouds believed to be particularly beautiful on this day.

Today, Qixi has become a modern celebration of love. Couples may exchange gifts, enjoy special meals, go on dates, or take part in cultural events. Cities across China host events such as matchmaking activities and group weddings, providing platforms for young men and women to find love.

On 29 July, 37 students and teachers from Owenz Academy visited the China Cultural Centre in Abuja for a blue-and-white porcelain themed Open Day, just four days after “Jingdezhen Handicraft Porcelain Industry Heritage” was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. 🇨🇳🌍

Through an interactive presentation and hands-on activities—including paper plate painting, pattern design, and porcelain fragment collage—the young participants explored the beauty and craft of Chinese porcelain. 🎨🖌️👐

The event planted seeds of cross-cultural friendship and mutual appreciation for China’s intangible cultural heritage. 🌱🤝💙

✨ UNESCO adds Jingdezhen sites to World Heritage List 🌏

The Jingdezhen Handicraft Porcelain Industry Sites were inscribed on the World Heritage List on Saturday, during the 48th Session of the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO in Busan, becoming China’s 61st World Heritage Site. 🇨🇳

Comprising five component sites, they present the complete porcelain-making process and trace the development of Jingdezhen's handicraft porcelain industry from the 10th to the 19th centuries.

The sites showcase the profound influence of Chinese porcelain on technology, art and global cultural exchange. Jingdezhen's iconic blue-and-white porcelain and its distinctive motifs have become enduring symbols of Chinese craftsmanship and culture.

🎉🇨🇳 The 22nd China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair Successfully Concluded

The 22nd China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF) was successfully held from May 21 to 25, 2026, lasting for five days. Closely aligned with its functional positioning as the “Nine Super Platforms,” this year’s ICIF focused on trading as its core, leveraged digital intelligence as its engine, and embraced a global perspective. 🌏 The event delivered a stellar performance with numerous highlights and fruitful outcomes, once again demonstrating its benchmark status and solid capability as “China’s No. 1 Cultural Industry Exhibition.”

Primarily held offline with concurrent online exhibitions, the main venue of this year’s ICIF featured 8 major exhibition halls, including 3 comprehensive pavilions and 5 professional pavilions, housing a total of 34 specialized exhibition areas with a total exhibition space of 160,000 square meters.

The event attracted 6,312 government delegations, cultural institutions, and enterprises to participate both online and offline, showcasing over 120,000 cultural masterpieces. The fair drew 310 overseas institutions and exhibitors from 65 countries and regions online and offline, as well as over 35,000 professional overseas buyers from 110 countries and regions. The ICIF’s “international circle of friends” continued to expand, with an upgrade in both the quantity and quality of international exhibitors.

🐼✨ Berries World Montessori School Visits China Cultural Centre ✨🇨🇳🇳🇬

On July 8, 98 students and teachers from Berries World Montessori School visited the China Cultural Centre in Nigeria for an immersive cultural experience. They learned about giant pandas through interactive quizzes, explored photo exhibitions, and enjoyed a vibrant “cultural fair” with painting activities, stamp-collecting postcards, and creative craft zones.
Five VR devices transported them to the Tang Dynasty, where they marvelled at China’s ancient splendour. ✨ The event also marked the successful conclusion of two exhibitions: “Hello Nigeria – 2026 Panda Painting Interactive Experience” and “the Tang Palace VR experience”. 🐼🎉

As the school’s motto goes – “Sowing seeds of love and reaping fruits of wisdom.” – this visit brought Chinese language and culture to life beyond the classroom.

🐼✨ Nurul Bayan International Academy Visits China Cultural Centre 🇨🇳🇳🇬

On July 1, 18 students from Nurul Bayan International Academy (Secondary Section) visited the China Cultural Centre in Nigeria.

They explored panda photo exhibitions, learned about the giant pandas’ growth, and eagerly answered quiz questions. They also painted ceramic pandas and colouring sheets, giving the “national treasure” a Nigerian twist.

The VR experience transported them to the Tang Dynasty, where they marvelled at China’s ancient splendour. As one teacher remarked, “China is no longer just a few lines in a book – it’s now a place with sound, colour, and warmth.”
