FG SET TO IMPLEMENT LOCAL GOVERNMENT PROOF OF ADDRESS SYSTEM
… ADVICES MDAs TO ADOPT INITIATIVE AS REQUIREMENT FOR OFFICIAL ADDRESS

The Federal Government has concluded arrangements for the implementation of the Local Government Proof of Address System (POA) across the 774 Local Government Areas in a bid to boost national security, economic planning and strengthen the nation’s national identity management.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, CON, made the disclosure at the Stakeholder's Meeting for the Activation and Implementation of the Local Government Proof of Address System, which had in attendance some key stakeholders from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and a representative from the German Embassy in Abuja.

SGF, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Dr. Nnamdi Maurice Mbaeri said that the POA would provide Nigerians with a verifiable and secure address, which would form an integral part of all administrative processes in both the public and private sectors.

According to Sen. Akume, when the initiative is fully implemented across the country, law enforcement agencies will have a robust database of verifiable addresses of Nigerians to enable them to track and mitigate criminal activities and social vices. He added that it will also bring development to the LGAs in allocating resources and implementing policies, as well as reduce risk in lending, delivery services, and commerce.

He therefore advised all MDAs to adopt the use of the Proof of Address certificate from the LGAs as a requirement to establish reliable and verifiable address, assuring that the Proof of Address Initiative is an embodiment of hope, a symbol of progress, and a testament to the dedication of this administration to creating a better Nigeria for all.

Speaking earlier, the National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Bello Lawal, represented by his Special Assistant and former Chairman, Karu LGA, Hon. Akala Samuel assured that the POA will provide a verifiable address for Nigerians, which would lay a foundation for improved governance, planning, and service delivery, and will in turn contribute to greater security, economic prosperity, and social development across the nation. He added that the employment of the initiative will equip agencies like the Nigerian Police, the Department of State Security Service, and other law enforcement agencies to gather accurate data for intelligence to stem insecurity at the grassroots.

In his goodwill message, the German Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Annett Gunther, represented by Police Liaison Officer (CID) German Embassy, Dominik Mueller said that Nigeria is on course towards the implementation of the POA initiatives. He added that the Federal Government should take a cue from the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) of Lagos State to ensure a robust database that will assist the military, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), National Population Commission (NPC), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), among others.

SGF THROWS WEIGHT BEHIND TAX REFORMS BILL, ASSURES PROSPERITY IN THE COUNTRY

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, CON, has expressed unwavering support for the Tax Reforms Bills, describing it as visionary legislation designed to revamp Nigeria's economy.

Speaking on TVC's Politics on Sunday, Senator Akume emphasized that the current tax system is over 50 years in operation and fails to provide maximum benefits to Nigerians. He urged that comments on the bills should be assessed based on its intent, purpose, and credibility, rather than sectional or primordial feelings, citing its nationalistic and pro-poor in nature.

"Solutions to complex problems are not as instant as instant coffee. The Federal Government and all tiers of governments have to come together to ensure prosperity in the land, he noted."

Addressing issues surrounding Fuel Subsidy removal, he said that its removal is the best decision taken by the Federal Government in the best interest of the people. He added that the introduction of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and Conversion Kits are some of the many alternatives already put in place to cushion the effect of the removal and stabilise the economy.

Speaking on Local Government Autonomy, the SGF assured that the 10-man Inter-Ministerial Committee to Enforce the Supreme Court Judgement on Financial Autonomy to Local Governments will soon submit its report in compliance to the ruling of the apex court. He asserted that the Local Government Autonomy is not arbitrary, but is pursuant to the dictates of the Constitution of Nigeria which stressed the autonomy of the three tiers of Government.

On the implementation of the Oronsaye report, Senator Akume pointed out that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken a bold step to commence the implementation of some parts of the report, since when the report was submitted by the previous Government without taking any action. He stressed that policy decisions have to be fine-tuned before full implementation to avoid duplication of functions among MDAs and in the best interest of Government and the people.

He called on Nigerians to unite and give President Bola Ahmed Tinubu the required support in order to deliver on his mandates for the prosperity of all Nigerians.

PRESS RELEASE

FG WOOS NIGERIANS TO PATRONISE MADE-IN-NIGERIA PRODUCTS

The Federal Government has called on Nigerians to patronise and promote Made in Nigeria goods and services for sustainable economic development of the country.

The Permanent Secretary, Special Services Office and the Supervising Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs Office in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma made the call at the Regional and State Coordinators Conference of Made-in-Nigeria in Abuja.

The Permanent Secretary, who was represented at the event by the Director, International Organisation Department (IOD), Musiliu Oladunjoye, stated that the conference is a crucial step in Nigeria's journey towards economic growth and development. He added that effective collaboration, innovative solutions and capacity building will serve as a booster to the Made-in-Nigeria project.

The National Coordinator of the Made in Nigeria Project, under the International Organisation Department in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Nwabueze said that the "Made in Nigeria" project is beyond a slogan but a movement that has the capacity to boost Nigeria's economic fortune. He therefore urged all Nigerians to take pride in patronising products and services that are homegrown, crafted, and delivered by talented entrepreneurs, artisans and innovators in the country.

While delivering his keynote address, Barrister Promise Ogadinma Mbani, the Eastern Coordinator of Made-in-Nigeria Products observed that one of the major setbacks for the 'Made in Nigeria' products is the cultural preference for foreign products. He advocated for registration, standardisation and promotion of Made-in-Nigeria products and services in the country in order to improve patronage within and outside the shores of the country. He further emphasised the need to educate, sensitize and create awareness among Nigerians.

PRESS RELEASE

FG REVIVES YAURI WATER WORKS IN KEBBI STATE

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, CON, has commissioned a N2 billion Yauri Water Works in Yauri, Kebbi State.

Senator George who was represented represented by his Chief of Staff and Director in the main SGF Office, Mr. Simon Tyungu described the rehabilitation of the Yauri Water works as a symbol of progress, development and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians at community levels.

He said the actualisation of the giant project initiated by National Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) several years ago was a subtle initiative of its pioneer managing director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq-Yelwa in collaboration with the State Government and other stakeholders in the State.

He traced the root of the project to the 1960s when the construction of Kanji dam was conceptualised which necessitated the relocation of some communities from their original settlements.

The SGF said: "It is a historical irony that despite their proximity to water bodies, and in spite of the sacrifices they have made for the country’s electricity generation, communities like Yauri have faced persistent challenges in accessing clean water for domestic and commercial purposes. The Federal Government recognized this paradox, and has been working to make water scarcity a thing of the past especially in the power producing communities across the country. Today, we stand here in Yauri, witnessing another milestone in our journey towards water security and improved quality of life for our citizens.Water work has been brought back to life. Once again, the people of Yauri will be able to access water from taps at their doorsteps.

Speaking earlier, Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris of Kebbi said the project was a partnership between the Kebbi Government and N-HYPPADEC to improve the livelihood of citizens of the state.

The governor, represented by the Speaker, Kebbi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Ankwai described the project as a life-saving project “in view of the fact that water is life.”

He said the collaboration underscored the commitment of the state and federal government through N-HYPPADEC to improving the lives of the citizens, especially in critical sectors like water supply.

The Managing Director, N-HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq-Yelwa said the project was a crucial component of the renewed hope agenda under the exemplary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He said the administration places a high premium on improving the quality of lives of Nigerians, assuring that the provision of clean, safe, reliable and potable water was a cornerstone of the president’s vision.

He described the Kebbi Government as a steadfast partner to the commission, adding that the state government’s support had been invaluable in the implementation of various initiatives across the state.

Sadiq-Yelwa lauded the Emir of Yauri, Dr Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi, for proposing the project during the commission’s familiarisation tour in 2021.

“His Royal Highness proposed to the commission the urgent need for rehabilitation of Yauri Water Works. Your steadfast support of our activities in Yauri Emirate ensures the success of this project. We are deeply appreciative of your wisdom and guidance,” he said.

The MD explained that the water scheme would significantly improve the living conditions of the Yauri people by ensuring a consistent supply of treated water to the households, businesses and institutions.

On his part, the Emir lauded the commission for executing a project that would touch the lives of generality and urged it to sustain the tempo for the good of all.
