🚨 PETER OBI: WHEN THE POLITICAL SPOTLIGHT SHIFTS FROM RECORDS TO DISTRACTIONS
They stopped Peter Obi’s convoy during his Benue visit when he was billed to visit and commiserate with victims of the Yelewata tragedy.
Then came endless conversations about his wife’s handbag, with different figures circulating online about its alleged value. Yet even the reported price has not been independently established as the actual purchase price of the particular bag.
Now, another major debate has emerged over claims that Obi’s administration left behind debts and unpaid contractor obligations in Anambra. Obi has rejected those claims and challenged his critics to provide evidence, saying contractors whose projects were properly executed and certified had been paid.
At the same time, Obi has been speaking about how he says he reduced government spending during his time as governor, including cutting the cost of renovations and limiting official travel expenses.
This is where Nigerians should pay attention.
Politics should not be reduced to handbags, personalities, social-media arguments or endless accusations.
If there are questions about public money, let the documents speak.
If there are claims about unpaid contractors, let the contracts, certificates, payment records and government accounts be examined.
If there are disagreements over ecological funds or inherited liabilities, let the relevant records be made public.
And if there are achievements being claimed, let those too be subjected to the same level of scrutiny.
Because Nigeria does not need political noise alone. We need evidence, accountability and a serious conversation about how public resources are managed.
Yesterday it was the visit.
Today it is the handbag.
Now it is the contractors and alleged debts.
What will the next headline be?
At the end of the day, Nigerians deserve facts—not endless distractions. 🇳🇬
