Namibia–Nigeria Business Engagement: From Diplomatic Relations to Economic Partnerships

WINDHOEK, NAMIBIA | AUGUST 2026

The Namibia–Nigeria Business Engagement on Trade, Investment and Business Opportunities, held on the sidelines of the Namibia Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition in Windhoek, marked another important step in strengthening the economic and commercial partnership between the two countries.

The Engagement was an initiative of the High Commission of the Republic of Namibia in Nigeria, following the participation of more than 70 Nigerian companies at the Conference. Their strong presence reflected growing Nigerian private-sector interest in Namibia—not only in oil and gas, but also in investment, trade, industrialisation, manufacturing, infrastructure, energy and services.

Hosted in collaboration with the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB), the Engagement provided a platform for government and business leaders to explore opportunities for investment, partnerships, technology transfer, trade and sustainable economic development. The Nigerian High Commissioner-Designate to Namibia also delivered a statement underscoring the importance of deepening bilateral economic relations.

NIPDB presented Namibia’s investment opportunities and investment environment, while Solewant Group, which sponsored the Engagement’s refreshments, presented its ambitious US$120 million investment proposal for the Industrial Park at Walvis Bay. The investment will focus on steel pipe manufacturing and milling, pipeline coating, protective and industrial coatings, steel fabrication, engineering and related industrial services, supporting local content, skills and technology transfer, industrialisation and job creation.

The Engagement demonstrated economic diplomacy in action—connecting businesses to opportunities and transforming diplomatic relations into tangible investment and commercial partnerships.

For Namibia and Nigeria, the direction is clear: from diplomatic relations to economic partnerships; from opportunities to investment; and from investment to industrialisation and shared prosperity.

His Excellency Walde Natangwe Ndevashiya, High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Permanent Representative of Namibia to ECOWAS, its Council and other Institutions, yesterday, 18 August 2026, presented his Letters of Credence to H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, formally accrediting him as Namibia’s Permanent Representative to ECOWAS.

During the occasion, His Excellency conveyed the fraternal greetings of H.E. Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia, and reaffirmed Namibia’s commitment to deepening its engagement and cooperation with ECOWAS.

His Excellency highlighted economic diplomacy and practical engagement as key priorities, with particular focus on trade and investment, energy and oil & gas, mining, agriculture and food security, infrastructure, digital economy, tourism, creative industries, maritime security and skills development.

He further emphasised that the successful implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) requires not only the removal of tariff barriers, but also meaningful progress on the free movement of people and the elimination of non-tariff barriers that continue to constrain intra-African trade.

The accreditation marks an important step in strengthening the bridge between Namibia and West Africa, while advancing shared aspirations for a more integrated, connected and prosperous Africa.

🇳🇦 PROMOTING THE DIGNITY, HYGIENE AND WELL-BEING OF THE BOY CHILD

As part of ongoing efforts to promote the dignity, health, self-confidence and well-being of the Namibian boy child, H.E. Mr. Walde Natangwe Ndevashiya, High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, today donated and handed over hygiene packs to boys from different schools in the Ohangwena Region.

The hygiene packs, comprising soap, body lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes, facecloths and deodorants, are intended to support school-going boys in maintaining good personal hygiene and developing healthy habits that contribute to their confidence, dignity and overall well-being.

The donation took place in Eenhana on 8 August 2026, during the Programme of Engagement with the Boy Child led by the First Gentleman of the Republic of Namibia, H.E. Dr. Peneha Ndaitwah.

The initiative underscores the importance of giving the boy child the attention, support and encouragement needed to grow into healthy, confident, responsible and productive young men. Personal hygiene is not merely a matter of cleanliness; it is closely linked to self-esteem, school participation, social interaction and the ability of young people to realise their full potential.

The donation is also part of H.E. Ndevashiya’s broader commitment to supporting education, youth empowerment and the well-being of children, particularly through practical interventions that make a meaningful difference in the daily lives of young people.

Investing in the boy child today is investing in the responsible, confident and resilient men of tomorrow.

HIGH-LEVEL ENGAGEMENT: ADVANCING NAMIBIA–NIGERIA CREATIVE AND TOURISM PARTNERSHIP

On 3 August 2026, H.E. Mr. Walde Natangwe Ndevashiya, High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, held a high-level tripartite engagement with the leadership of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), led by its President, Mr. Abubakar Yakubu, alongside Immediate Past President Dr. Emeka Rollas Ejezie, MON, and Secretary Ms. Ifeoma Okeke. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Abhavesh Punjabi, Country Director of Travelwings Nigeria.

The engagement focused on strengthening Namibia–Nigeria cooperation in tourism, film production and the creative industries, with particular emphasis on creating opportunities for Nollywood and international filmmakers to utilise Namibia’s exceptional landscapes and tourism attractions as film destinations.

Discussions also explored skills development, mentorship, knowledge exchange and investment opportunities to support Namibia’s emerging creative sector and enhance collaboration with Nigeria’s globally recognised film industry.

The High Commission remains committed to building strategic partnerships that leverage the complementary strengths of Namibia’s tourism and natural assets, Nigeria’s vibrant creative industry, and Travelwings Nigeria’s destination expertise.

This initiative represents another important step towards expanding cultural diplomacy, tourism, investment and creative industry partnerships, while further deepening the longstanding bilateral relations between Namibia and Nigeria.

NAMIBIA STANDS IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE OF THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO

On 2 August 2026 in Abuja, H.E. Mr. Walde Natangwe Ndevashiya, High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, delivered a message of solidarity on behalf of the Government and people of Namibia and the SADC Group of Ambassadors in Nigeria during the Congo DRC Genocide Remembrance Day, held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Abuja.

The High Commissioner joined the Congolese community, diplomatic representatives, religious leaders and distinguished guests in solemnly honouring the memory of the victims of genocide, war and protracted conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.

In his message, H.E. Ndevashiya conveyed Namibia’s heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and reaffirmed Namibia and the SADC region’s solidarity with the people of the DRC. He underscored the importance of peace, reconciliation, justice, human dignity and dialogue in addressing the consequences of conflict and building a peaceful and secure future for the people of eastern DRC.

He further called for the memory of the victims to inspire renewed commitment to preventing violence, strengthening peaceful dialogue and advancing lasting peace and stability in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

May the memory of the victims remain eternal. May peace prevail, reconciliation triumph, and may the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo find lasting peace, stability and prosperity.

HE Walde Natangwe Ndevashiya Signs Book of Condolences in Honour of Madam Hadja Andrée Touré

His Excellency Walde Natangwe Ndevashiya, High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, this morning visited the Embassy of the Republic of Guinea in Abuja, where he signed the Book of Condolences following the passing of Madam Hadja Andrée Touré (1934–2026), former First Lady of Guinea and wife of the late President Ahmed Sékou Touré, the founding President of the Republic of Guinea.

In his message of condolence, High Commissioner Ndevashiya conveyed the heartfelt sympathies of the Government and people of the Republic of Namibia to the Government and people of Guinea, and to the bereaved family.

Madam Hadja Andrée Touré stood alongside President Ahmed Sékou Touré throughout Guinea's formative years following independence in 1958. As First Lady, she was a steadfast partner to one of Africa's foremost pan-African leaders and champions of the continent's liberation.

President Ahmed Sékou Touré remains deeply respected in Namibia for his unwavering support of the country's liberation struggle. Under his leadership, Guinea consistently championed the cause of Namibia's independence, supported SWAPO on international platforms, and advocated tirelessly for the end of colonialism and apartheid across Southern Africa. Guinea's solidarity with the Namibian people formed part of its broader commitment to Africa's total liberation and unity.

The Namibian High Commission in Abuja joins the people of Guinea in mourning the loss of Madam Hadja Andrée Touré and honours the enduring legacy of a family whose contribution to African freedom, dignity, and unity will remain an inspiration for generations to come.

Namibia Participates in the 2026 ATU Conference of Plenipotentiaries in Abuja

The High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Walde Natangwe Ndevashiya, joined the Namibian delegation as Deputy Head of Delegation at the 2026 African Telecommunications Union (ATU) Conference of Plenipotentiaries (CPL-26), taking place in Abuja, Nigeria, from 23–24 July 2026.

The Namibian delegation comprises representatives from the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) and other key ICT stakeholders. Their participation reaffirms Namibia's commitment to advancing digital transformation, regional cooperation, and Africa's digital development agenda.

The ATU Conference of Plenipotentiaries is the Union's highest decision-making forum, bringing together African leaders and ICT policymakers to shape the continent's telecommunications and digital future. Key agenda items include the election of the ATU Secretary-General, the Administrative Council (2027–2031), and discussions on strengthening Africa's digital transformation while coordinating the continent's common position ahead of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference.

Namibia remains committed to working with African partners to promote innovation, digital connectivity, and inclusive ICT development in support of sustainable socio-economic growth across the continent.
