Kogi L-PRES Hands Over Anyigba Wet Market Project Site to Contractor.

ANYIGBA – The Kogi State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project has officially handed over the site for the construction of a Model Slaughter House and Wet market in Anyigba, Dekina Local Government Area, as part of efforts to improve hygenic slaughtering operations and livestock marketing infrastructure and boost economic activities in the state.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the State Project Coordinator, Mr Otaru Abdulkabir Onoruoyiza, said the project was aimed at improving one health, market facilities, promoting hygienic handling of livestock products, and enhancing business opportunities for Butchers/Meat marketers and other key actors within the livestock value chain.

He noted that the Livestock Infrastructure Interventions comprise the ongoing Model Slaughter House and the Wet Market funded through the World Bank-supported L-PRES Project and urged beneficiaries to take ownership of the project by ensuring its proper use, maintenance and sustainability upon completion.

According to the coordinator, the Model Slaughter House and Wet Market Sub-projects will contribute to improved one health, food safety, and increased economic opportunities for the beneficiaries of Anyigba and surrounding communities.

In his remarks, the Ogohi-Onu of Anyigba HRH, Alhaji Abu Shuaibu Okolo commended the Kogi State Governor, His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo and the Kogi L-PRES Project for locating the projects in the community, describing it as a significant intervention that would enhance livestock business and commercial activities in the area.

The traditional ruler emphasized the importance of improved one health practices, noting that healthy livestock product supply systems are essential for economic growth, health status of the citizens and the overall development of the livestock sector.

He also highlighted the strategic importance of Anyigba as one of the fastest-growing towns in Kogi State and a destination that attracts people from diverse ethnic backgrounds because of its commercial and educational significance.

“Anyigba is a rapidly growing town with people from different ethnic groups living and doing business here. This project is therefore timely and will serve not only our community but also neighbouring areas,” he said.

The monarch further assured the project implementation team that in collaboration with the Local government authorities sufficient land was available for the construction of the Model Slaughter House and wet market and any future expansion that may be required.

He expressed appreciation to the Kogi State Government and the L-PRES Project Management Team for citing the project in Anyigba and pledged the support of the traditional institution towards its successful ex*****on and sustainability.

The Chairman Butchers Association, Anyigba described the intervention as a significant step towards improving livestock business and sanitary conditions in Anyigba. He noted that the Model Slaughter House and the Wet market would provide a more organized and hygienic environment for the slaughtering, processing and marketing of livestock products, thereby enhancing public health and boosting commercial activities in the area.

Kogi L-PRES Hands Over Sites for the Construction of Model Slaughter House and Wet Market to Contractors in Idah

IDAH – The Kogi State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project has officially handed over sites for the construction of a Model Slaughter House and Wet Market project to the contractor in Idah Local Government Area, with stakeholders emphasizing the need for quality ex*****on, optimum use and sustainability.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the State Project Coordinator, Mr. Otaru Abdulkabir Onoruoyiza, said the project is being funded through the World Bank Assisted Kogi L-PRES Project and urged beneficiaries to ensure the facilities are properly used, maintained and sustained upon completion.

He noted that the project is aimed at improving livestock productivity, safe slaughtering operations and marketing of meat products towards increasing livestock farmers income, economic growth, food safety and security in Idah Local Government Area and its environ.

The coordinator further explained that the project intervention is in line with the "One Health" approach being promoted by the L-PRES Project, which recognizes the interconnection between human health, animal health, and the environment in achieving sustainable development, food safety and security.

According to him, the projects will contribute to safer livestock production systems, improved public health, and increased economic opportunities for residents of the area.

The State Project Coordinator thanked and appreciated His Excellency, Alh Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Executive Governor of Kogi State for creating the enabling environment for the implementation of L-PRES Project in Kogi State through the payment of the State Counterpart fund.

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Idah Local Government Area, Hon. Alhaji Halilu Alifa, commended the Kogi L-PRES Project for locating the projects in the council area, describing the intervention as timely and beneficial to the local economy.

He expressed appreciation to the Kogi State Government and the L-PRES Project Management Team for extending the developmental initiative to Idah and assured them of the council's commitment to ensuring the successful delivery of the projects.

"As a local government, we are committed to supporting the successful implementation of these projects. To complement the efforts of Kogi L-PRES, the council will inaugurate a monitoring committee that will oversee the progress of work and ensure that contractors deliver according to the approved design specifications and within the stipulated timeframe," the chairman stated.

He added that the committee would work closely with community leaders, stakeholders and project officials to ensure transparency, accountability, and quality delivery.

The Idah Butchers Association Chairman, Mr. Sani Momoh said that the construction of the Model Slaughter House and Wet market would provide a more conducive environment for livestock Agribusiness, meat processing, and marketing activities, while improving hygiene and safety standards within the livestock value chain.

KOGI L-PRES Delivers on Promise as its Hands over Sites for Livestock Projects in KABBA/BUNU LGA.

KABBA, Kogi State — The Kogi State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) has formally handed over sites for the construction of a Model Slaughter house and Wet Market in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, fulfilling a commitment made to stakeholders to improve livestock production and commercial activities in the area.

The State Project Coordinator, who performed the handover in Kabba, said the projects were part of strategic interventions aimed at transforming the livestock sector and enhancing economic opportunities for farmers, traders and other value-chain actors.

Speaking at the Palace of the Obaro of Kabba before the handover, Hon. Otaru recalled the request made during an earlier stakeholders' engagement, the project had promised to facilitate critical livestock infrastructure for the area and is now here for the handover ceremony.

"We are here to hand over two (2) important projects- the Model Slaughter house and Wet Market. These projects are a fulfillment of the commitment we made to the people during our stakeholders' engagement. We promised to bring infrastructure that would support livestock development, and today those promises are becoming a reality," he said.

The coordinator noted that the projects would improve livestock production, strengthen market access, create employment opportunities and boost economic activities within the area.

According to him, the facilities will also contribute to the state's agricultural development agenda by providing modern infrastructure for livestock processing/value addition and marketing towards ensuring Food Safety and Security in Kogi State.

Receiving the project team, the HRM The Obaro of Kabba, Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi, described the intervention as a significant milestone for Kabba and the wider Okun region.

The monarch said the projects would not only stimulate economic growth but also foster a stronger sense of inclusion among the people.

"The location of these projects in Kabba and other parts of Okunland is highly significant. Politically, it gives our people a sense of belonging. Economically, it will boost livestock-related activities, while socially it will contribute to the development of our communities," and ensure safe and hygenic meat products, the royal father said.

Oba Owoniyi commended the Kogi State Government and the L-PRES Project for extending the intervention to the area and pledged the support of the traditional institution toward the successful implementation and sustainability of the projects.

He assured that the host communities would cooperate fully with contractors and project officials to ensure smooth implementation.

The Council Chairman of Kabba/Bunu LGA, Hon.(Barr). Zacheaus Dare Micheal speaking through Mr. Sunday Ojo, Secretary of the LGA commended the state government for the strategic intervention and promised to finalize all documentation for the proposed sites.

The contractors handling the projects, on their part, assured stakeholders of their commitment to delivering quality infrastructure in line with approved specifications.

The livestock infrastructure projects are among several interventions being implemented by Kogi L-PRES across the three senatorial districts of the state to strengthen livestock production systems, improve market access, promote value-chain development and enhance resilience within the livestock sector towards achieving Food Safety and Security in the state.

Kogi L-PRES Begins Construction of 19 Livestock Infrastructure Facilities to Transform Livestock Sector in Kogi State

The Kogi State Coordination Office of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project, (Kogi L-PRES) has commenced the handover of sites for the construction of 19 livestock infrastructure facilities to contractors in a major step towards improving livestock productivity, promoting one health and strengthening the livestock value chain in the state.

The facilities, comprising 3 Livestock Improvement & Breeding Centres (LIBCs), 8 Model Slaughter Houses, and 8 Wet Markets located at the Livestock Value Chain Clusters across the 3 Senatorial Districts of the State.

These support to the Livestock Value Chain Clusters across the state are expected to provide modern infrastructure that will enhance productivity through an improved livestock breeding system, meat processing, value addition and marketing across the state.

The State Project Coordinator, Otaru Abdulkabir Onoruoyiza said the facilities were designed to address long-standing challenges in livestock production particularly breed improvement, meat hygiene, and marketing to ensure food safety and security while creating opportunities for increased income generation, economic growth and the overall development of the livestock value chain in the state.

According to him, the Livestock Improvement & Breeding Centres will serve as hubs for the production of superior livestock breeds capable of delivering higher productivity and better adaptation to local conditions.

The Model Slaughter Houses will provide standard facilities for safe handling of livestock slaughtering operations, meat processing, ensuring adherence to hygienic practices and food safety standards.

These facilities are expected to improve the quality of meat products supplied to consumers while reducing health risks associated with environmental health, unregulated livestock slaughtering and meat products marketing activities.

He stated that the Wet Markets will provide a modern and organized environment for the sale, safe handling, and storage of meat and other livestock products in the state.

He urged the contractors handling the different projects across the state to adhere strictly to the design and specifications, and deliver within the timeline as contained in the contract agreement.

The State Project Coordinator thanked and appreciated the Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for creating an enabling environment for the implementation of L-PRES Project and his commitment to the development of the livestock sector in the state.

His Royal Highness, Engr Idowu Isenibi, The Bajana of Obajana and several other livestock farmers interviewed at the LIBC Project site, Obajana, Lokoja LGA commended the KOGI L-PRES initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that would improve livestock productivity in the state.

Alhaji Idi Ibrahim, The State Chairman, Butchers Association in Kogi State noted that the project when fully implemented will put to an end the over 40 years clamor and agitation for a modern slaughtering and wet market facilities in Lokoja and the entire Kogi State.

The handover exercise marks a significant milestone in the implementation of the KOGI L-PRES Project, which is focused on improving productivity, commercialization and building resilience of the livestock value chain through strategic investments and infrastructural support to the livestock value chain clusters in the state.
