I want to send my sincere profound condolences to the Rufai Family and Nigeria football family at large for the loss of our legendary Goalkeeper Peter Rufai.

Dodomayana as his fondly called, was a symbol of excellence and leadership in Nigerian sports. His commitment to the game, both on and off the field, was second to none. As we mourn this painful loss, we also celebrate a life that gave so much to Nigerian football. Rest well, legend—you will remain forever in our hearts.

Yesterday, I led two visionary leaders from corporate Nigeria, Mr. Emmanuel Emefienim of PremiumTrust Bank and Mr. Gossy Ukanwoke of BetKing, to meet with Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State.

Together, we sealed the biggest sponsorship deal in the history of the National Sports Festival — Nigeria’s very own Olympics. 🏅🇳🇬

This isn’t just a win for Enugu 2026.

It’s a game-changer for Nigerian sports, unlocking investments, creating jobs, engaging youth, and powering grassroots development across the country.

Corporate Nigeria is no longer cheering from the sidelines, they are in the game, and the playbook just got a whole lot more exciting.

It was very refreshing to be part of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria ( SWAN) Novelty match played this morning at the MKO Sports Arena

SWAN has always been our partner in progress at the National Sports Commission and today's Novelty match speaks volumes of the strong relationship that exists between the Sports journalists and the Commission

It was exciting to see that some Sports writers are also very good footballers

Our pursuit for a sustainable sports economy in Nigeria took a big step forward today as the multi billion Naira eSports industry debuted at the National Sports festival as a demonstration Sport.

This is another huge step the Commission has taken to ensure it taps into the huge potential of one of the world's fastest growing Sports industries.

Myself and the Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko are so proud to be part of this historic day in our Sports history.

Let the Games begin .

This is our own Olympics and from start to finish, the festival must portray that global feel, both in competition and organisation.

This is why the National Sports Commission and the Ogun State Government have put up a World class event to mark the Opening ceremony later today by 5pm.

And two of Nigeria's top Music icons Davido and Asa will be performing live at the MKO Sports Arena.

Beyond the aesthetic people will be seeing today, which confirms to everyone what I have been saying that Ogun will host the best Festival, we are also determined to ensure that people witness the best throughout the Games.

This is another massive plus for the Growth of Nigerian Sports, the news that the President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, BFN, Francis Orbih, is now an elected Council Member of the BWF — Badminton World Federation, (BWF).

This is a testament to the good work Francis Orbih has been doing with Nigerian Badminton and having more Nigerians in global Sports Federations will only help to strengthen Nigeria Sports development.

I say a big congratulations to Francis Orbih and the entire Badminton Family in the Country.

I want to salute the impressive showing of our athletes so far at the ongoing African Weightlifting championship in Mauritius where Team Nigeria is currently topping the medals table with 7 Gold medals, 4 silvers, and one Bronze medals.

I want to charge the athletes not to relent on their oars to finish the championship as they have started.

Our lifters performance so far has once again underscored our dominance in the Sports and we must continue to ensure we sustain that dominance.

I am also glad to announce that four of our athletes that are currently taking part in the Africa Weightlifting championships in Mauritius have been shortlisted into the A Category of the Elite Programme of the Elite Athletes and Podium Board of the Commission and will get 20,000 Dollars each as their annual training Grants.

And by next week, the four of them will get 5000 Dollars each as part of their training Grants installment.

The welfare of our athletes is very paramount to us, and it is a core mandate of the Commission under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR to prioritize the welfare and well-being of our Elite Athletes.

With this, our athletes can now concentrate on their preparations without any distractions for the Commonwealth Games, the World Championship and ultimately the Olympic Games.

The day we all have been waiting for is getting closer when the sporting eye of the country will solely be on Ogun state from May 16 - 30 2025 for the 22nd National Sports Festival.

On Tuesday, April 15th, was very significant in the National Sports Commission's determination to ensure Ogun state stages a Premium Games.

I led a joint team of both the Local and Main organising Committees on the inspection of facilities that are being put together for the Games by the Ogun state Government.

And I must commend His Excellency, the governor of Ogun state,Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun - MFR for the level of readiness of the facilities and on behalf of the Commission and the Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, I must say we cannot wait to witness a world class event come May 16th 2025.

And the highlight of the day was a very colourful event of the unveiling of the Gateway Games Logo, Theme song and Mascot at the June 12 Cultural centre in Abeokuta.
