FOWA PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE, EKITI STATE COMMAND

The Fire Officers' Wives Association (FOWA), Ekiti State Chapter, today paid a courtesy visit to the Federal Fire Service, Ekiti State Command at the State Headquarters, Trade Fair Complex, Old Iyin road, Bashiri, Ado-Ekiti.

The FOWA team, led by its Chairperson, Mrs. Omoyeni Toyin Ajayi, was received by the State Controller, Deputy Controller of Fire (DCF) Olatunji Olumide James, alongside senior officers and men of the Command.

In her remarks, the FOWA Chairperson expressed the Association's appreciation for the warm reception accorded the delegation. She said the visit was to familiarize with the Command, strengthen the existing relationship between FOWA and the Service, and discuss areas of collaboration and welfare for personnel and their families. She commended the State Controller for his leadership style and for maintaining discipline and professionalism in the Command.

She stated that FOWA Ekiti is committed to supporting the Command during vital programmes such as; Fire Safety Week, International Firefighters' Day among others in a bid to increase the level of fire safety awareness in the state. She solicited the continuous support of the Command towards the activities of the association.

Responding, the State Controller, DCF Olatunji Olumide James, thanked the FOWA leadership for the visit and described FOWA as an integral part of the Federal Fire Service(FFS) family.

According to him, "Behind every gallant fire officer is a supportive wife and family. The role of FOWA in promoting welfare, unity and home-front stability cannot be overemphasized. Your prayers and support give our men the morale to risk their lives to save others."

The Controller assured FOWA of the Command's full support and reiterated his commitment to personnel welfare, discipline and operational efficiency in line with the vision of the *Controller General of Federal Fire Service, CGF Samuel Adeyemi Olumode, MBA, MDRM, FCNA, ACTI .

The State Controller appreciated the FOWA team and wished them safe journey to their various destinations.

FFS EKITI CONTROLLER EDUCATES RESIDENTS ON FRESH 106.9 FM DENDE ORO PROGRAM

The State Controller, Federal Fire Service, Ekiti State Command, Deputy Controller of Fire (DCF) Olatunji Olumide James, has sensitized Ekiti residents on fire prevention and safety during a live radio program on Fresh 106.9 FM Ado-Ekiti.

The program, "DENDE ORO - Eto Iroyin ati Oro To N Lo" was anchored by Adewumi Adeshina and featured the State Controller as Guest Speaker, supported by SF Amuda H.F( Head, IIE ), DSF Adegbola G.F (PRO) and DSF Adedeji I.F (Watch room).

Speaking during the program, DCF Olatunji Olumide James educated listeners on six key areas:

1. Mandate of the Federal Fire Service: The Controller explained that the mandate goes beyond firefighting to include fire prevention and sensitization, rescue operations, regulation and enforcement of safety standards, training of public and private organizations, and investigation of fire causes.

2. What is Fire:* He described fire as a chemical reaction involving heat, fuel and oxygen (fire triangle) and noted that while fire is a good servant, it becomes a bad master when out of control.

3. Causes of Fire Outbreaks: The Controller listed major causes recorded in Ekiti State including storing fuel at home, overloading of electrical sockets, indiscriminating bush burning, fuel scooping from fallen tankers, leaving cooking unattended and leaving electronics gadgets switched on.

4. Punishment for Fire Safety Non-Compliance: DCF Olatunji warned that under the Federal Fire Service Act and safety regulations, premises without fire extinguishers and fire exits can be sealed, filling stations and gas plants without safety clearance can be closed and prosecuted, while obstruction of firemen, false fire alarm and negligence causing loss of life attract arrest and criminal prosecution.

5. School Fire Safety Sensitization: The State Controller announced the Command's "Catch Them Young" campaign for schools across Ekiti, including EKSU, BOUESTI, FUOYE, FUTES, Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti and other tertiary and secondary institutions. He emphasized the ban on hot plates in hostel rooms and offered fire safety training and fire drills to all schools that write to the Command.

6. What to Do in Case of Fire Outbreak:* He advised residents to shout "FIRE", evacuate immediately, crawl low if there is smoke, call *08039637328 and 112 with clear location, never return to a burning building to pick property, and apply Stop-Drop-Roll if clothes catch fire.

The Controller noted that 80% of fire calls in Ado-Ekiti, Ikere, Iyin, Ikole, Oye and other towns are preventable and stressed that "Fire Prevention is Better Than Fire Fighting."

The program featured an interactive phone-in session where listeners asked questions which were answered by the State Controller.

DCF Olatunji Olumide James commended *His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for his continuous support to the Federal Fire Service in Ekiti State and thanked the Management of *Fresh 106.9 FM Ado-Ekiti* and the Anchor, Adewumi Adeshina, for providing the platform to reach Ekiti Kete.

He reiterated that the Command's office at Trade Fair Complex, Bashiri, Ado-Ekiti remains open for fire safety sensitization, training and inspection for schools, churches, mosques, markets, hotels, banks and filling stations. FFS EKITI COMMAND JOINS SEMA IN FLAG-OFF OF DISTRIBUTION OF RELIEF MATERIALS FOR THE RAINSTORM AND FLOOD VICTIMS

The Federal Fire Service, Ekiti State Command, in collaboration with the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has flagged off the distribution of relief materials to the victims of rainstorm and flood disasters.

The flag-off ceremony held on Thursday 10th September, 2026, at SEMA Warehouse, Behind Chicken Republic, Bank Road, Ado Ekiti, brought together government officials, community leaders, emergency stakeholders and beneficiaries from the affected areas.

Speaking at the event, the State Controller, Federal Fire Service, Ekiti State Command, DCF O.J. Olatunji, ably represented by the Public Relations Officer, DSF G.F. Adegbola, said the intervention was in line with the Government’s mandate to provide succor to victims of disaster and to reduce the impact of losses suffered by families and communities.

He noted that while relief is important, prevention remains key. He further charged residents to be safety ambassadors in their homes and workplaces by avoiding poor waste disposal, blocking of drainages, deforestation and building on water ways and flood plains.

In his remarks, the General Manager, Ekiti SEMA, Mr. Asaolu Oludare, appreciated the partnership with FFS Ekiti Command and reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting victims and building community resilience against disasters. He confirmed that the relief materials distributed include cements, planks, nails, roofing sheets and cheques.

In her remarks, The Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Her Excellency Chief [Mrs] Monisade Afuye, commended SEMA, NEMA, FFS and other emergency stakeholders for the timely intervention. She urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the materials and to cooperate with emergency agencies on safety sensitization and compliance.

The Federal Fire Service, Ekiti State Command, reaffirmed its commitment to public enlightenment, rescue operations, and protection of lives and property across the state.

FFS EKITI STATE COMMAND ATTENDS SUMMIT ON STATE POLICING AT EKSU

The Federal Fire Service, Ekiti State Command, on Thursday 27th August, 2026 participated in a One-Day Summit on the State Policing Debate in Nigeria held at Ekiti State University (EKSU) Ado-Ekiti.

The Summit, which brought together security agencies, academics, traditional rulers, and civil society organizations, was aimed at examining the prospects, challenges, future of internal security and framework for the establishment of State Police in Nigeria.

Representing the State Controller, Federal Fire Service, Ekiti State Command, DCF Olatunji Olumide James, was SF Amuda H.F.

In his remarks at the summit, SF Amuda stated that the Federal Fire Service remains a critical stakeholder in internal security and disaster management. He noted that the issue of State Policing directly impacts emergency response, protection of lives and property, and inter-agency collaboration at the grassroots level.

SF Amuda further reiterated the commitment of the State Controller and the entire Management of FFS Ekiti Command to any policy that will enhance public safety, improve response time to emergencies, and strengthen synergy among all security and emergency agencies in Ekiti State.

Other agencies in attendance included the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, NSCDC, FRSC, NIS, NDLEA, NCoS, and other stakeholders.

The Federal Fire Service, Ekiti State Command, appreciates the organizers of the summit and reaffirms its readiness to collaborate with government and stakeholders to ensure a safer Ekiti State.

FFS EKITI STATE COMMAND GRACES FRSC DECORATION CEREMONY

The Federal Fire Service, Ekiti State Command, has graced the decoration ceremony of newly promoted officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ekiti State Command held at FRSC State Headquarters, Ado-Ekiti.

The event was hosted by the Sector Commander, FRSC Ekiti State Command, CC Sanya Adeoye.

In attendance were heads and representatives of sister security agencies and emergency response organizations in the State. Notable among them were the State Controller, Federal Fire Service, Ekiti State Command, *DCF Olatunji Olumide James*, representatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, and the Head of Operations, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), among other stakeholders.

Speaking at the ceremony, the State Controller, DCF Olatunji Olumide James, congratulated the newly decorated officers on their well-deserved elevation. He described the promotion as a call to higher responsibility, professionalism and greater commitment to the safety of road users in Ekiti State.

DCF Olatunji further noted that the Federal Fire Service (FFS) and the Federal Road Safety Corps( FRSC) share a common mandate of protecting lives and property. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining the existing synergy and collaboration with FRSC, especially in the areas of joint rescue operations, accident management, and public enlightenment campaigns across the State.

The Sector Commander, FRSC Ekiti State Command, appreciated the presence of sister agencies and thanked the State Controller, FFS, for identifying with the Corps on such a memorable occasion. He charged the newly decorated officers to see their new ranks as motivation to redouble their efforts in reducing road crashes and saving lives.

The highlight of the ceremony was the decoration of the promoted officers, exchange of goodwill messages, and group photographs.

FFS EKITI STATE COMMAND PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO SPECIAL ADVISER ON SECURITY MATTERS

The Federal Fire Service, Ekiti State Command paid a courtesy visit to the Special Adviser to the Governor of Ekiti State on Security Matters, Brigadier General Ebenezer Ogundana (Rtd), at his office in Ado-Ekiti.

The visit was led by DCF O.J. Olatunji, who is the State Controller, Federal Fire Service, Ekiti State Command.

In his address, the State Controller stated that the purpose of the visit was to strengthen inter-agency collaboration, foster synergy, and seek the support of the Office of the Special Adviser on Security Matters in the areas of fire prevention, public enlightenment, and emergency response across the State.

He further highlighted some of the achievements, challenges, and ongoing initiatives of the Command, and solicited continued partnership with the State Government to enhance the capacity of the Service to effectively discharge its mandate of protecting lives and property.

Responding, the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Brigadier General Ebenezer Ogundana (Rtd), commended the Federal Fire Service (FFS) for its professionalism, commitment to duty, and proactive role in disaster prevention and management. He assured the Command of the State Government’s readiness to collaborate with the Service in the areas of public awareness campaigns, and provision of necessary support to ensure a safer Ekiti State.
