EKITI BCOC D-G HAILS OYEBANJI’S RE-ELECTION, URGES CITIZENS TO EMBRACE RESPONSIBLE CITIZENSHIP
The Director-General, Bureau of Civic Orientation and Citizenship, BCOC, Ekiti State, Mrs. Olawumi Famuyiwa, has congratulated Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji on his re-election and urged citizens to support governance with constructive engagement and responsible conduct.
Speaking on the “Se Ewa” programme on EKTV, Mrs. Famuyiwa described her appointment as a product of God’s favour and years of service in civic education.
She recalled serving as a State Director of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, where she worked on sensitising citizens on national values, social cohesion, and responsible citizenship.
“Those years shaped my understanding of how government can achieve development through informed, disciplined, and law-abiding citizens,” she said.
She noted that her mandate at the BCOC is to mobilise citizens to participate actively in Ekiti’s progress and unity through positive attitudes and conduct.
The BCOC D-G described the governorship election as peaceful, free, and fair, adding that the conduct of the process reflected the character of the Governor.
She equally described Governor Oyebanji as a peaceful and loving leader and an embodiment of Omoluabi values, and called on citizens to sustain support for government through dialogue and cooperation.
Mrs. Famuyiwa urged civil servants to justify their salaries through diligence and measurable contribution to the state’s development.
“Work accordingly to justify your monthly salary,” she said, urging workers to align their responsibilities with the developmental goals of the administration.
She also sensitised residents on proper waste disposal and environmental cleanliness. She called for the judicious use of the Dino bins provided by government and warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse, especially into waterways and drainages.
Citing the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, she noted that Ekiti is among states prone to flash flooding. She said indiscriminate refuse disposal can block water flow and trigger avoidable flooding during heavy rainfall.
She appealed to individuals, communities, transport unions, and market leaders to adopt responsible waste management practices to reduce disaster risks.
“Improved civic behaviour will support safer living conditions, reduce flood-related challenges, and protect lives and property,” she stated.
