Delta No-Go Area For Opposition Parties- Oborevwori.. Inaugurates Multiple Roads in Oko, Asaba..Awards Phase Two Of Oko Road Project For N16.9 Billion

Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Friday declared that Delta has effectively become a no-go area for opposition political parties due to the visible achievements of his administration across the state.

The governor made the assertion during the inauguration of the 4.8-kilometre Oko–Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu/Oko-Anala Road in Oko Kingdom and other network of roads in Asaba, both in Oshimili South Local Government Area.

Speaking at the ceremony, elated Oborevwori said the extensive infrastructure development under his administration had strengthened public confidence in government and positioned the state for continued political dominance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said: “When I contested the 2023 election, I won in 21 out of the 25 local government areas even when I was not yet a governor. With the level of development and projects we have delivered in almost three years, Delta State has become a no-go area for other political parties.”

The governor said his APC led administration remained committed to delivering impactful projects that directly improve the lives of the people, adding that the road projects commissioned were strategic in boosting economic activities and improving connectivity between communities.

Oborevwori explained that the Oko–Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu/Oko-Anala Road would significantly improve transportation for farmers in the area, enabling them to move their produce to markets more efficiently while reducing poverty and enhancing rural livelihoods.

He recalled that in the past, the terrain around Oko was extremely difficult, especially during the rainy season, making it almost impossible for farmers to transport their produce to markets.

According to him, many farmers were forced to travel through neighbouring Anambra State to sell their produce, often disposing them at giveaway prices because of the difficulties involved in transporting them back.

“Today, I am happy that we have completed this road. Farmers can now transport their fresh produce easily to markets, increasing their income and improving their standard of living,” the governor said.

He added that due to the strategic importance of the road, the state government had already approved Phase Two of the project at a cost of ₦16.9 billion, with the contractor, Setraco Nigeria Limited, expected to complete the work within 24 months.

Oborevwori, however, expressed optimism that the contractor would complete the project earlier than scheduled.

The governor also highlighted the significance of the Amaechi Agusi and adjoining roads project in Asaba, noting that the area had previously suffered severe erosion and flooding that made the roads almost impassable.

He said the completed road network and drainage system would now improve transportation, support businesses and address flooding challenges in the area.

Oborevwori noted that Delta State was currently witnessing what he described as “harvest of projects,” with numerous completed and ongoing developments across the state.

He listed several recently commissioned projects to include; the Government Technical College in Omadino and new faculty buildings at the University of Delta, Agbor, Southern Delta University, Ozoro, adding that more projects were lined up for commissioning in the coming weeks.

The governor said his administration’s focus remained on delivering results rather than making empty promises.

“As I always say, we are working. When you come to Delta State, you will see the evidence of what we are doing. Governance is about performance, and the people can see our report card clearly,” he said.

Oborevwori also assured that more empowerment programmes for youths and women would soon be rolled out under the administration’s MORE Agenda, stressing that peace and stability remained key to sustaining development in the state.

He further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the economic reforms introduced in 2023, noting that the policies had improved the financial capacity of states to undertake more development projects.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, said the newly constructed Oko road was built above the flood level recorded during the devastating 2012 flood to prevent future disruptions.

He noted that residents of the community had already expressed overwhelming appreciation for the project and pledged their continued support ahead of 2027 general elections.

Also speaking, the Director-General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, Chief Patrick Ukah, disclosed that over 70 kilometres of roads had been completed and ongoing within the capital territory, including about 50 kilometres executed directly by his agency alongside more than 20 kilometres of drainage works.

Ukah also announced that the long-awaited Asagba Road project in Asaba had been approved by the governor and construction would commence soon.

In his remarks, Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council, Hon. Kelvin Ezenyili, commended Oborevwori for his sustained commitment to infrastructure development, describing the newly commissioned roads as transformational projects that would boost economic growth and improve livelihoods.

He noted that communities within the area had previously struggled with poor access roads that hindered business activities and the transportation of farm produce.

Speaking on behalf of the host communities, Palace Secretary to the Asagba of Asaba, Chief Patrick Ndili and the Akor of Oko Kingdom, HRH Osita I, expressed deep appreciation to the governor for the project, describing it as a long-awaited intervention that would open up the community for greater development.

They assured the governor of the continued support of the people of Oshimili South ahead of 2027 for his administration and for the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Oborevwori Presents 65 SUVs To Traditional Rulers In Delta
..Says Monarchs Make Governance Easier, More Effective

In a powerful gesture that underscored the centrality of traditional institutions in governance, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Wednesday presented 65 brand new Sports Utility Vehicles, SUVs to traditional rulers across the state, describing them as “tools of service” for guardians of peace and stability.

The presentation, which took place in Government House, Asaba, saw 60 brand new Prados and five Land Cruisers SUVs handed over to the royal fathers for ease of movement.

Governor Oborevwori said the occasion was “a very important and symbolic day in the life of this administration”, noting that the beneficiaries represent “a special class of leaders whose contributions to governance are critical, but often understated.”

Drawing from his grassroots political experience, the Governor emphasized that traditional rulers are far more than custodians of culture.

“They are not merely custodians of our customs, norms and traditions; they are vital intermediaries between government and the people at the grassroots,” he said.

While reaffirming his administration irrevocable commitment to building a strong, inclusive economy founded on equity and justice, Governor Oborevwori lauded the traditional rulers for their support.

"I can confidently state that traditional rulers have made governance easier, and more effective in Delta State. I commend their unwavering commitment to peace, progress and prosperity" Oborevwori said.

According to him, royal fathers play a frontline role in mobilising communities, promoting government programmes, resolving disputes, and supporting security agencies, often without expectation of reward.

“Our Royal Fathers are often on the road, responding to government directives, mediating in communal disputes, engaging in peace-building and conflict resolution. They do all these voluntarily and willingly. For this, we are truly grateful,” Oborevwori added.

He explained that the decision to provide rugged SUVs was deliberate, given the rural and difficult terrains many traditional rulers operate in.

“These vehicles are not luxuries; they are tools of service. What is required is strength, durability and functionality, and that is what these vehicles provide,” the Governor declared.

Governor Oborevwori linked the gesture to his administration’s broader philosophy of inclusive governance under the MORE Agenda, particularly its pillar of Opportunities for All.

He highlighted a wide range of social intervention programmes already implemented by his government, including financial support for over 307,600 vulnerable persons under the DCARES Programme, grants to petty traders and artisans, empowerment of women and youths, and monthly stipends for 10,000 widows across the state.

He also reeled out landmark achievements in workers’ welfare, pension payments, scholarships, bursaries, and financial assistance for Delta indigenes in Nigeria Law Schools.

“From the foregoing, it is clear that every segment of our population has been touched. So, when we turn our attention today to our traditional rulers, it is not out of favouritism, but fairness,” he said.

Governor Oborevwori; “you have not stressed me. You have not made demands. Wherever I go in your domains, I receive warmth, culture and cooperation. This gesture today is from the heart".

Earlier, the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme said the presentation of the vehicles to traditional rulers was a clear and practical demonstration of the Oborevwori administration's respect for traditional institutions in the state, adding that the government's gesture was in appreciation of the vital role they (traditional rulers) play in ensuring peace, unity, and stability across the state.

In his welcome remarks, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu who outlined the various developmental strides of the Oborevwori's administration across different sectors of the state, noted that Delta State was being governed with empathy, foresight, and a deep commitment to the collective welfare of its people.

Speaking separately during the ceremony, the Obi of Owa, HRM, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor (JP); the Ovie of Uvwie, HRM, Emmanuel Sideso Abe l and the Pere of Ogulagha, HRM, Elder Capt. King Joseph I. Timiyan (JP) expressed profound appreciation to the Governor for the gesture, adding that the car gift would significantly go a long way in enhancing their efficiency in the discharge of their traditional roles.

Chairman of the Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers and the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, HRM Major General Felix Mujakperuo (Rtd.), Orhue I, in a vote of thanks, described Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s presentation of 65 SUVs to traditional rulers as a timely and deeply symbolic intervention that strengthens grassroots governance and peace-building across the state.

He said mobility remains central to the effective discharge of traditional rulers responsibilities, stressing that “a vehicle is not just a means of transportation to a traditional ruler; it is a symbol of authority and service.”

The council of traditional rulers chairman assured the Governor of the unwavering support of the traditional institution, describing royal fathers as custodians of culture and natural partners of government at the grassroots.

Oborevwori Flags Off ₦39.3bn Otovwodo Flyover Project Amidst Jubilation
..Vows To End Ughelli Traffic Gridlock

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Monday performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the ₦39.3 billion Otovwodo (Ughelli) Flyover project, saying it is a permanent solution to the long-standing traffic congestion at one of the state’s busiest junctions.

Speaking in Ughelli, the governor said the project is a major milestone in his administration’s infrastructure renewal drive and aligns with its agenda of prudent resource allocation, durable road construction and the opening up of urban and rural corridors for inclusive growth.

He noted that Ughelli, a historic commercial and educational hub, has witnessed rapid population growth, placing enormous pressure on its road network, particularly at Otovwodo Junction, on the East–West Road and other major routes.

Oborevwori said the junction had become notorious for gridlock, costing commuters several productive hours daily, adding that he had personally experienced the gridlock motorists endure at the location.

As an interim measure, the governor disclosed that his administration constructed alternative routes, including Uduere Street, Okogbe Street, Oru Street, Edo Street, Royal Avenue to link Agbarha-Otor Road, at a cost of nearly ₦6 billion to ease traffic before the flyover.

The governor said the project, awarded to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, is expected to be completed within 12 months, stressing that the timeline is non-negotiable due to the strategic importance of the junction.

He explained that the project includes a multi-span reinforced concrete bridge with dual carriageways, roundabouts and associated roadworks linking the East–West Road with other arterial routes, noting that it would ease congestion, reduce travel time, improve safety and boost economic activities.

Oborevwori also highlighted the job creation potential of the project, saying it would generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs across the construction value chain. He urged residents to be patient and comply with traffic directives during the construction.

Reaffirming his commitment to transparency and accountability, the governor assured that the state would continue executing major projects without borrowing, adding that several completed projects across the state were awaiting commissioning, with more to be flagged off in 2026 under the Renewed Hope for MORE Agenda.

Earlier, the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Engr. Peer Lubasch, thanked the state government for the confidence reposed in the company, describing the contract as a validation of its technical expertise and partnership with Delta State.

He said the 15-span flyover would feature a dual carriageway, connecting roads, specialised drainage systems and solar street lighting, and assured timely delivery to global standards.

Oborevwori after the groundbreaking ceremony, visited the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, HRM Wilson Ojakovo Oharisi III and Chief Morrison Olori, founder and Chairman of Ukodo Nation, where he reiterated that he is Governor for all Deltans.

In their remarks, Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Hon Jaro Egbo, and the 'Otota' (spokesman) of Ughelli Kingdom, Chief Peter Akpofure, commended Governor Oborevwori for the project, describing it as transformative and long overdue, while appealing for additional internal roads and complementary infrastructure.

The ceremony was attended by the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, State Chairman All Progressives Congress APC, Elder Omeni Sobotie, Members of the National Assembly, Hon. Francis Waive and Hon. Ngozi Okolie, top government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders and residents, who hailed the project as a decisive step towards ending Ughelli’s traffic challenges.

Oborevwori Extols Egukawhore At 60, Hails Character, Community Impact

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Sunday, described business mogul and community leader, Chief Victor Emonena Wayles Egukawhore, as a man of proven character, passion and enduring commitment to community development, as he celebrated his 60th birthday.

The governor spoke at a thanksgiving service held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Okpolo-Enhwe, Isoko South Local Government Area, to celebrate the diamond jubilee of Chief Egukawhore, whom he said has remained consistent in character and disposition over the years.

Oborevwori noted that attaining the age of 60 was a testament to God’s faithfulness, stressing that returning all the glory to God through thanksgiving was the most meaningful aspect of the celebration.

He said he had known the celebrant for many years, affirming that Egukawhore’s passion, energy and sense of purpose had remained constant.

According to the governor, success is not accidental but rooted in divine favour, strong values and respect for one’s roots, commending the celebrant for remembering and investing in his people across Enhwe and other parts of Isoko and Patani.

Oborevwori prayed for continued divine protection, good health and sustained blessings for the celebrant and his family, urging him to remain steadfast in acknowledging God as the source of wisdom, opportunity and increase.

In his homily, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Oleh, Rt. Rev. John Aruakpor, preached from Psalm 139:14–18, emphasising the doctrine of God’s providence.

He explained that human life is “fearfully and wonderfully made” and fully known to God even before birth, noting that survival, progress and achievement are products of divine grace rather than luck or personal strength.

The Bishop stressed that life is a stewardship entrusted by God and meant for service to others, urging the celebrant and the congregation to live purposefully, with gratitude, humility and obedience to God, while using their resources and opportunities to bless their communities and society at large.

Bishop Aruakpor commended Governor Oborevwori for visible achievements and responsive governance, citing improved infrastructure that compares favourably with global standards.

The Cleric expressed strong confidence in the Oborevwori's service to Delta State and Nigeria, noting that genuine performance eliminates the need for political campaigning.

He urged critics to engage directly rather than complain from a distance, describing Oborevwori administration as people-centred and approachable, and sued for collective support for the Governor.

The celebrant, Chief Egukawhore said his life is marked by enduring friendships, meaningful relationships and good deeds over the years, attributing his journey and happiness to God’s faithfulness.

He further reaffirms his commitment to service and development, noting that at 60 years, he remains steadfast in his journey of faith and purpose.

The thanksgiving service was attended by the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, prominent business leaders including Chief Johnbull Ejovi, Chief Eta Enahoro, Engr. Matthew Tonlagha, High Chief Tunde Smooth, Chief Broderick Arigbodi and Chief Daniel Omoyibo, as well as traditional rulers and other dignitaries.

Oborevwori Signs Into Law Delta’s N1.729 Trillion 2026 Budget

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Tuesday, signed the Delta State’s 2026 Appropriation bill of N1. 729 tagged “Budget of Accelerating the MORE Agenda,” alongside three other key bills passed by the State House of Assembly into law.

The assent sets the stage for accelerated development, enhanced security and strengthened social welfare across the state.

The other three bills assented to are the Delta State Social Investment Programme Law, the Delta State Colleges of Education Law, 2025, and the Delta State Anti-Terrorism and Anti-Cultism (Amendment) Law, 2025.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Governor Oborevwori described the 2026 budget as “not just a budget of figures, but a budget of vision, action and expected deliverables for the next twelve months,” assuring that the state would hit the ground running in 2026 to accelerate development across key sectors.

The N1,729,881,208,779 budget represents an increase of over 70 per cent compared to the 2025 budget.

The Governor said the estimate, though ambitious, was achievable, with 70 per cent dedicated to capital expenditure and 30 per cent to recurrent spending, thus underscoring his administration’s commitment to infrastructure-led growth and sustainable development.

He noted that in 2025, the state intensified investments in infrastructure, security, fiscal discipline and revenue growth, leading to improved internally- generated revenue without imposing additional burdens on citizens.

According to him, the gains reflect the success of the administration’s reforms and its determination to continue strengthening the state’s economy.

Oborevwori explained that the three accompanying laws were designed to further reinforce social welfare, education and security in Delta State.

He said the Social Investment Programme Law provides a legal framework for equitable, grassroots-focused access to resources and services, particularly for vulnerable and underserved populations, without discrimination.

He added that the Colleges of Education Law, 2025, standardises the operations of state-owned colleges, allowing them to award Nigerian Certificate in Education ( NCEs) and education degrees concurrently, and expands their capacity to train more qualified teachers.

The Anti-Terrorism and Anti-Cultism (Amendment) Law, he said, strengthens the legal framework to combat terrorism, cultism and related crimes, aligning state laws with contemporary security realities.

The Governor commended the Speaker, leadership and members of the Delta State House of Assembly, as well as Clerk and staff of the House, for the timely passage of the budget and other bills, highlighting the strong synergy between the executive and the legislature.

He also thanked stakeholders, cabinet members, civil servants and citizens for their contributions, while wishing all Deltans a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Earlier, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, said the passage of the four bills followed rigorous legislative engagement, wide consultations and thorough scrutiny in line with the Assembly’s constitutional mandate.

Guwor explained that the Social Investment Programme Law institutionalises social intervention initiatives to protect vulnerable citizens and promote inclusive growth and social justice, while the Colleges of Education Law, 2025, establishes a uniform framework to enhance the quality and efficiency of teacher education and reduce disparities among state-owned colleges.

He added that the Anti-Terrorism and Anti-Cultism (Amendment) Law addresses emerging security challenges and corrects gaps in the principal legislation, including the omission of a clear definition of cultism.

On the Appropriation Law, 2026, the Speaker said the House scrutinised the budget sector- by -sector in line with the MORE Agenda before passing the N1.729 trillion estimate.

According to him, the assent to the bills further underscores the cordial and productive relationship between the legislature and the executive, driven by a shared vision for a peaceful, secure and prosperous Delta State, and will significantly advance good governance and socio-economic development in the state.

Oborevwori Inaugurates 12.1km Odimodi–Okuntu–Ogulagha Road
..Reaffirms Commitment to Devt Of Riverine Communities

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Wednesday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equitable development across the state, with special attention to riverine communities.

Speaking during the inauguration of the newly reconstructed 12.1-kilometre Odimodi–Okuntu–Ogulagha Road in Burutu Local Government Area, Governor Oborevwori described the project as “a strategic intervention that connects communities long cut off by the challenging riverine terrain”.

He emphasized that the new road stands as proof of his administration’s resolve to provide quality, durable, and impactful infrastructure for all Deltans.

He said: “The joy and excitement in the air today are an undeniable proof that our administration is fulfilling the desires and expectations of the people.

“This road, which was first constructed by SPDC many years ago, had long deteriorated. When I came here, I saw its condition and made a firm decision that it must be rehabilitated. Today, we are here to commission it to the glory of God and for the prosperity of our people.”

The Governor noted that the road was constructed to high engineering standards and was designed to withstand the peculiar challenges of the Niger Delta terrain.

He lauded the contractors and the supervising engineers for their quality delivery, assuring that every project under his administration meets established standards of excellence, accountability, and transparency.

“In Delta State, no contractor is being owed,” he stressed. “We make prompt payments because we want projects completed on schedule. That is why you will not find abandoned projects here. Contractors prefer working in Delta State because they get their money once the job is properly done,” he maintained.

Governor Oborevwori added that his administration had continued to complete inherited projects, while initiating new ones across all parts of the state.

He cited the recently performed groundbreaking ceremony for the 12-kilometre Warri–Sapale–Benin Road section, and groundbreaking ceremony of upcoming projects such as the Otovwodo Flyover in Ughelli, the Uromi Junction Flyover in Agbor, and other strategic roads and bridges designed to ease mobility and enhance economic activities.

He assured residents of the riverine areas that more development projects were on the way, including roads, schools, and shore protection works, adding that he was inspired by the people’s trust and support for his administration.

“Our people in the riverine communities deserve the best. From where much of the nation’s oil wealth comes, it is only right that they feel the touch of governance in tangible ways. This road will improve connectivity, support trade and fishing, and uplift the economic well-being of the people,” the Governor said.

In his remarks, the Member Representing Burutu Federal Constituency, Hon. Julius Pondi, expressed delight at the Governor’s attention to the riverine areas, describing the project as “the beginning of many good things to come.”

He thanked the Governor for appointing two commissioners from the constituency and assured him of total support of the people.

“Your Excellency, we don’t speak much on the microphone, we speak through the results. You can be sure that Burutu will always deliver five over five for you,” Pondi declared.

Also speaking, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the project demonstrates Governor Oborevwori’s love for the riverine people.

He explained that the road features varying pavement widths of between 6.5 and 10 metres, expanded drainage systems, and the replacement of culverts with durable, flood-resistant structures.

“Despite the difficult terrain, His Excellency has shown that no community in Delta State is too remote for development. This project, which links Odimodi, Okuntu, and Ogulagha, will greatly enhance the social and economic life of our people,” Aniagwu noted.

Earlier in his welcome address, Chairman of Burutu Local Government, Hon. Julius Takeme, thanked the Governor for his continued investments in the area, including the Technical College in Kiagbodo, the Ayakoromo Bridge, and other life-changing projects.

He appealed to the Governor to prioritize the construction of an access road to Burutu town, which he described as the only local government headquarters in Nigeria without a road link.

He assured the Governor of the people’s unwavering support, saying, “We are praying for you, and when the time comes, our people will come out en masse to vote massively for your reelection come 2027.”

In his goodwill message, Chairman of Ogulagha Community, Comrade Bright Guwor, commended the Governor for his “pragmatic leadership, consistent engagement, and visible impact” across the state.

He said the newly commissioned road was not only a physical connection but also a “powerful symbol of unity, progress, and improved quality of life.”

The event was attended by Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, the Leader, Engr Emeka Nwaobi, members of the State House of Assembly, other top government officials, community leaders, and jubilant residents who described the project as a historic transformation of the riverine corridor and a clear demonstration of the Oborevwori administration’s “Renewed Hope for More Agenda ” vision in action.
