ABSG GRADUATES SECOND BATCH OF ABIA LEADERSHIP ACADEMY TRAINEES, AS GOV. OTTI TASKS PARTICIPANTS ON CONTINUOUS LEARNING.

Abia State Government has graduated the second batch of the Abia Leadership Academy Trainees, an initiative aimed at building a large community of leaders in the State and Nigeria generally.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, said that what his Government set out to do with the programme is to redirect the people to become better citizens and charged the participants to keep learning.

"My charge to you will be to keep learning, share, and influence the behaviour of others based on leadership.

"Leadership is the ability to influence and drive outcomes. So, what we actually set out to do here which we will continue to do, is to redirect our people.

"Redirect our young ones, redirect their vision, redirect their thinking. Gone are the days when our young ones are left to turn out to become thugs, who will be thinking of drugs and other nefarious activities including cultism and things along those lines..

"We are also making a clear distinction in the area of institution building because just behind leadership is the architecture of social strength," Gov. Otti stated.

The Governor stressed the need to get leadership from the foundation, saying that the programme is very dear to him and is closely tied to his social reorientation programme.

"Additionally, this is about raising a new generation of leaders, those who have transformed their minds to think broadly and deeply whenever and wherever they are confronted with any challenge at all.

"Our target is to build a large community of leaders who are acquainted with each other as young people and can seamlessly create new front lines of partnership," Gov. Otti disclosed.

He said that each person who successfully concludes the programme would be required to mentor at least one person every month over the next 12 months. He informed the participants that a digital platform has been created to accommodate all of them for further conversations.

In their speeches, the Chairman of Abia Leadership Academy and Secretary to the State Government, Professor Kenneth Kalu said that the vision of the programme is to build leaders who can create impact.

While thanking everyone who has contributed to the success of the leadership training, he noted that by investing in these young ones, the Governor is creating leaders with impact.

Also, a member of the committee and Chairman, Civil Service Commission, Pastor Mrs. Eno Jerry-Eze said that Abia Leadership Academy is becoming a movement, adding that the State is intentional about her youths.

She said that Governor Otti is building the New Mind Economy through the young people and urged the participants to hold fast to all they were exposed to.

Earlier while reading the content of the training, the lead consultant and director of programme, Mr. Johnson Abali informed the gathering that the participants were divided into groups to enable them to participate immensely in the programme.

He thanked the Governor for investing in the future of Abia youths as they have been empowered.

In their transformational testimonies, some of the participants, including Emmanuel Uma, Chibuzor Innocent, Prince Ceazer among others described the training as the best way to prepare Abia for the future, adding that, with what they have been exposed to, Abia is turning into something that would blow people's minds.

They thanked Governor Alex Otti for giving them such an opportunity to be trained and prayed God to bless him.

The event was witnessed by some parents of the participants and many senior Government appointees.

CLARIFICATION ON THE ACCIDENT INVOLVING THE DRIVER AND SECURITY DETAILS OF THE DEPUTY SPEAKER OF THE ABIA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY.

The Office of the Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly regrettably wish to clarify the misleading trending video circulating on the social media space in respect to the unfortunate accident that occurred at Obehie in Ukwa West LGA, on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025, along the Port Harcourt–Aba Road Expressway.

The tragic incident involving the driver and two security details driving in the official pick-up truck of the Deputy Speaker and a Toyota Spider with two occupants was an unfortunate tragedy. Regrettably, both occupants of the Toyota Spider (The driver and passenger) lost their lives in the collusion.

It is important to state clearly that the Deputy Speaker was not in the back-up vehicle at the time of the accident. The back-up truck was alone returning from an errand to Port - Harcourt when the unfortunate accident occurred.

Due to the bad condition of the other lane, the Toyota Spider was driving against traffic (one-way). According to eyewitness accounts and submission of the surviving truck driver, the Toyota Spider either suffered a burst tire or brake failure, which caused the spider to lose control and veer into the path of the Deputy Speaker's pick-up truck. This resulted in a very bad collusion between the two vehicles and, unfortunately, led to the death of the two occupants of the Toyota Spider.

The driver of the truck and the two policemen sustained serious injuries, placing their lives under very critical conditions, to the extent that the driver of the truck is currently on life support being considered for a spine surgery, following the recommendation of a Neuro Surgeon at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.

The Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly considers this a tragic incident and sent emissaries to the bereaved family the following day after the accident (Monday, August 4th, 2025) while working round the clock with medical professionals to save the lives of his surviving driver and security details.

The interface and discussion between the emissaries from the Deputy Speaker and the bereaved family is still ongoing to agree on how best the bereaved family can be supported during this very difficult time without consideration of the circumstances leading to the accident in the first place.

The Deputy Speaker is surprised and pained that such unconfirmed News is being peddled and circulated on the social media spaces against his person without hearing from him and does not believe that the bereaved family can be behind such misrepreaentation of facts, considering the circumstances and the communications thus far.

The Deputy Speaker is appealing to the general public, especially the media, to exercise caution to avoid spreading unverified reports, especially in such sensitive matter, involving loss of lives. Out of respect for the deceased and their families, The Deputy Speaker's Office has deliberately refrained from going into certain details.

The Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Austin Okezie Meregini is a man of empathy and responsibility who has consistently supported individuals and families in distress across the State and beyond, even when he is not in any way connected to the parties involved.

The Deputy Speaker once again extends his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and pray for the repose of their souls in God's bossom.

Signed:

Grant Okeigbo (Media Unit)

"The Umode, Bakassi, Enyimba Junction to Ariaria Gate, Isu ihiteukwa street, and other stretches of roads within Aba have been fixed to generally improve the business environment, elevate our urban experience, and add to the appeal of the communities around here.

GOV. OTTI REAFFIRMS READINESS TO PARTNER WITH INVESTORS TO BUILD ABIA STADIUM CITY TO BOOST STATE ECONOMY.

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti has expressed the readiness of his administration to partner with serious private investors to build the proposed Abia Stadium City to create a better future and boost the economy of Abia State.

Governor Otti was speaking when he received in audience, a team of development partners led by the Managing Director, Irish Development Group (IDG) Mr. Nigel Neely, who came to present a master plan of the proposed Abia Stadium City in his office.

The Governor said that his administration has been on the stadium project and is looking for those who not only have the capacity to deliver but willing to invest in Abia. He said that, he believes that with private sector involvement, such a gigantic project could be achieved while its sustainability would be guaranteed, even beyond his tenure in office.

"We've been on this stadium project, and we've pushed very hard because we know what we want to achieve. Listening to you, you clearly know what to do.

"So, just looking at these highlights (the presentation), I know that the devil is in the details. It looks like something that can work. We have it out already, and I'm happy you have even gone ahead to inspect the site.

"So now, if it's largely private sector-held, then even when I'm not here tomorrow, they will run well. because it also has to be sustainable.

The Governor, who stressed that sustainability is key, said that the government could have 10% or 20% maximum investment and allow the rest to be owned by private investors.

He said that what is needed is for both the government and the development partner's team to sit and work out the details of the project.

"I think we're now going to sit down and drill down the real issues around the details. Like , they said, the devil may be in the details.

"Where do we find the money? How much is it going to cost? In what tranches are they going to come? And, who is going to own it? As a government, we want to maintain minimum share holding, Gov. Otti stated.

Governor Otti appreciated the preliminary studies and spoke of the merits of the site.

"As you were making your presentation, I said, yes, that is exactly my impression about the place. We had a lot of options but we chose that place. One, it's not inside, its not too far. And then, the airport that we have just started, is also not too far.

"And those are some of the attractions. You want to get to a stadium, or a stadium village, because, there's a stadium. So you have good accommodation, you can do your shopping, you can go on holiday.

"Originally, we had a games village exactly where the airport is sitting now. And we took a decision that the airport and the games village should not be at the same place.

"And even for the people, it would make more sense to just get to the stadium and everything you want to do is around there. So, that's what I've deducted from this presentation, which I think works, Gov. Otti noted.

The Governor further assured that power would not be a problem for the project as his administration is concluding plans to buy the Umuahia ringed-fence of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, which would provide enough power to Umuahia and the entire Abia North zone.

Speaking while making a presentation of the master plan for the proposed Abia Stadium City, the development partner and Managing Director, Irish Development Group (IDG), Mr. Nigel Neely said that the proposed Abia Stadium City, to be located on a 96-hectare expanse of land in Umuahia, represents a bold and forward-looking initiative designed to reposition Abia State as a premier destination for sports, tourism, business, and recreation.

He said that the project is anchored on the creation of a world-class, multi - functional sports and entertainment complex that would serve the region and attract global attention.

According to him, the structure for the proposed Abia Stadium City includes, Stadium and Sports zone, Games Village and High-Performance Training Centre, Residential District (Smart Housing); Offering modern, tech-integrated living spaces for residents and visitors, Hospitality and Tourism zone with hotels, resorts among others.

Mr. Neely expressed delight to be part of what he described as the transformative vision of Governor Alex Otti.

The Commissioners for Youth and Sports, Sir. Nwaobilor Nwadinma Ananaba and Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Uwaoma Ukandu were among government officials at the presentation.
