Oredo LG Chairman, Dr. Tom Obaseki, Honors Fallen Heroes on Armed Forces Remembrance Day
Benin City, January 15, 2025 — The Chairman of Oredo Local Government, Dr. Tom Obaseki, has paid tribute to Nigeria’s fallen heroes and serving military personnel in commemoration of this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
In a statement released on Monday, Dr. Obaseki emphasized the importance of the annual event in honoring the bravery and sacrifices of soldiers who fought to protect Nigeria’s sovereignty and ensure national peace and stability. He urged citizens to remember the sacrifices made by the armed forces and to continue showing respect and gratitude to military personnel and their families.
“As we mark this solemn occasion, we honor the courage of those who laid down their lives for our nation and recognize the selfless service of our veterans and those currently in uniform,” Dr. Obaseki said.
He further revealed that Oredo Local Government is working on initiatives to improve the welfare of retired military personnel, including healthcare and social support programs. He called on the federal and state governments to intensify efforts toward ensuring the welfare of armed forces personnel, both active and retired.
Dr. Obaseki concluded by urging Nigerians to use the occasion to reflect on the values of peace, unity, and brotherhood for which the armed forces fought, stressing the need for continuous efforts to build a more peaceful and prosperous nation.
