The Super Eagles of Nigeria have once again reaffirmed the nation’s place as the true Giant of Africa through their inspiring performance at the AFCON tournament in Morocco. What they delivered went far beyond football, it was a statement of resilience, belief, and national pride.
Still hurting from the pain of missing the World Cup, the team refused to be defined by disappointment. Instead, they transformed adversity into motivation, displaying courage, unity, and determination from the first whistle to the final ball. Across Morocco’s major stadiums, from Rabat and Casablanca to Tangier, Marrakech, and Agadir, Nigeria played with authority, leaving a powerful mark in every arena.
Although their journey ended with a narrow semi-final loss to the host nation, Morocco, the Super Eagles exited the tournament with heads held high after an outstanding and courageous campaign.
One of the tournament’s standout figures was Calvin Bassey, whose commanding defensive performances, fearless tackles, and relentless energy echoed the legacy of Nigerian greats. His display embodied the fighting spirit that defined the team’s run.
This AFCON outing has made it clear: with this core squad, sustained unity, and the same unwavering spirit, Nigeria is poised not only to dominate African football again but to set the pace for years ahead.
As the Chairman of the Edo State House of Assembly Committee on Youth and Sports, I join millions of Nigerians in celebrating this remarkable team and commending the tournament organizers for a competition that reflected African excellence, passion, and unity.
The smiles, joy, and renewed hope across the nation say it all; the Eagles have risen again.
Nigeria is proud.
Africa has been reminded: The Super Eagles are back. 🇳🇬🦅
