**Clarification on Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Incident**

The Edo State Government wishes to address some misleading social media narratives about today's Children's Day incident at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. We hereby reject the sensational interpretations, spins, twists, and misinformation that were dubiously orchestrated to give the government a bad name.

The stadium was filled to capacity with thousands of excited children who came to participate in the day's activities. The turn out was unprecedented. All the entrances into the facility were opened for children to access the stadium. Some excited children resorted to unruly behaviour at one of the gates, an incident that led to some kind of stampede which necessitated one of the bouncers to deploy the use of tear gas to disperse them. In the cause of the pandemonium that ensued, few students sustained injuries.

The Deputy Governor, Rt Hon. Dennis Idahosa who was physically present at the stadium, rose to the challenge immediately assisting children with first aids; and those requiring further care were taken to the Edo Specialist Hospital where they received appropriate medical attention and are now safely back home with their families.

The Edo State government has already authorised investigations into the incident while the bouncer involved is presently being interrogated by the Police to ascertain the immediate or remote cause of the incident. The government wishes to restate its commitment to the safety and security of all including our children. We however call on social media users to refrain from unverified narratives that could cause unnecessary panic.

Isolated incidents at large gatherings, while regrettable, do not diminish Governor Okpebholo's commitment to child safety and wellbeing. The Governor's unparalleled investment in education is the reason for the huge attendance by students of different schools in the state to celebrate Children's Day.

We thank the security personnel, medical staff, and volunteers for their swift response and
dedication to duty. Their immediate response helped to douse the tension.

Signed:
Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele

Edo State Govt Reaffirms Commitment to Infrastructure, Security, Effective Governance

By Omoruyi Patricia Osayomore and Ojeaga Faith

The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to sustained infrastructure development, improved security, efficient service delivery, and the creation of an investment-friendly environment across the State.

The assurance was given by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, during a press briefing which held at the Ministry’s premises in Benin City. He stated that the administration of Sen. Monday Okpebholo remains focused on delivering meaningful development projects despite prevailing challenges, including the rainy season.

According to the Commissioner, major infrastructure projects are progressing steadily across different parts of the State. He disclosed that construction work on the Ramat Park Flyover is advancing rapidly, while the Temboga Road is currently undergoing maintenance. He noted that communities in Gelegele and hospitals in Edo North Senatorial Districts are receiving increased government attention as part of ongoing efforts to improve public infrastructure and social welfare.

On security matters, the Commissioner commended the Nigeria Police Force and the Edo State Government for strengthening security operations through the provision of operational vehicles to law enforcement agencies. He stressed that the State Government maintains a zero-tolerance stance against cultism and other criminal activities, revealing that the Government intends to intensify efforts against internet fraudsters, popularly known as ‘Yahoo-Yahoo,’ as part of broader measures aimed at ensuring peace, security, and public order across the State.

Speaking on environmental sustainability and investment opportunities, the Commissioner said the Government is deliberately creating a conducive environment capable of attracting investors into the State. He appreciated the Federal Government for issuing climate change alerts and advisories to states across the Country.

The Commissioner explained that newly constructed roads in Edo State are now designed with proper drainage systems to protect infrastructure from flooding and other environmental challenges associated with climate change. He urged residents to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse on roads and inside drainage channels, warning that such practices obstruct the free flow of water and damage public infrastructure.

According to the Commissioner, the Government has put measures in place to identify and prosecute defaulters, emphasizing that investment flows more easily in a clean and environmentally responsible society.

On transportation, the Commissioner disclosed that the much-anticipated “Akpako Buses” will soon be deployed for public use to ease transportation difficulties experienced by commuters across the State. He revealed that the 50 buses are part of the Government’s broader plan to acquire 100 buses, as additional 50 buses were expected soon. He described the initiative as a practical demonstration of a responsive government which is committed to improving the daily lives of Edo people through accessible and efficient transportation services.

Addressing governance and service delivery within ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), the Commissioner disclosed that about all MDAs in the State have been integrated into the Edo Cloud system to enhance administrative efficiency and communication across government institutions. According to him, the digital platform will ensure smoother operations, faster exchange of official memos, and improved coordination among government agencies, adding that Edo State is making remarkable progress in modern governance and public service delivery.
