I Am Committed To Developing Edo State — Gov Okpebholo

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reiterated his administration’s strong commitment to the development of the State, declaring that his sole motivation in governance is to deliver visible and sustainable development across the Edo state.

The governor made the statement during an inspection of ongoing projects in Udomi, Esan Central Local Government Area.

Projects inspected include the construction of a 150-bed space Edo Specialist Hospital in Udomi, the Udomi Town Hall which will function as an event centre and a revenue-generating facility, and the Udomi Holiday Resort project, designed to accommodate a golf course, film village, hotel, and other tourism facilities.

Governor Okpebholo said while addressing stakeholders during the inspection, "What is in me is to develop Edo. That is what you are seeing here,”

He recalled his long-standing advocacy for modern infrastructure in the state, noting that his administration is now translating those ideas into concrete action.

The governor emphasized that Edo State’s rich history should serve as a springboard for modern development, not a constraint.

“During my campaign, I kept telling people: why should Edo be an ancient city? We started early as a state. What brought the Portuguese to Edo was what they heard about Edo. Edo cannot continue to be an ancient city. We must improve it and leave it better than the way we met it,” he said.

Governor Okpebholo assured residents that substantial infrastructural and urban transformation, particularly in Benin City, will become evident within the next two years, adding that development will be pursued evenly across the state’s three senatorial districts.

The governor stated, "In the next two years, you will see a lot of changes in Benin City. We are going to do it across board because we have three senatorial districts,”

The inspection tour was conducted in the company of top government officials and party leaders, including retired General Cecil Isegaigbe, APC Edo Central leader; Sylvester Aigbobor, APC State Deputy Chairman; and other senior government and party officials.

I just finished inspecting key projects across Edo Central. From the 150 bed Edo Specialist Hospital in Udomi, to the Ibhiolulu Irrua Afuda Uwessan road, the Esan Central axis, and the Ujabhole Uwessan modern market, progress is taking shape and hope is being restored in our communities.

For me, leadership has no off days and no holiday seasons. This is the mandate the people of Edo entrusted to me, and I am committed to delivering.

Seeing Edo prosper and develop is the greatest gift I can give, and Practical Governance never sleeps.

Seasons Greetings.

Today, I presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill of ₦939.85 billion to the Edo State House of Assembly, aptly named the Budget of Hope and Growth. This budget is built on the progress we recorded in 2025, stronger revenue performance and our clear commitment to people centered development under the SHINE Agenda.

In the outgoing year, security remained a top priority. We took decisive steps to ensure Edo did not become a safe haven for criminals through stronger laws, improved security logistics and the recruitment of 2,500 officers into the Edo State Security Corps. These actions significantly reduced insecurity and restored confidence across the state. We also recorded significant improvements in healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture and education.

The 2026 budget prioritizes infrastructure, health, education, agriculture and economic growth, with over 68% allocated to capital projects. From new roads and flyovers to upgraded schools, improved healthcare facilities, expanded agricultural investment and job creation initiatives, this budget is designed to touch lives, grow the economy and secure a better future for every Edo citizen.

Yesterday was truly heaven on earth as I joined Edo sons and daughters for the 365 Days in Office Thanksgiving Praise Concert. It was a moment of deep gratitude, a moment to thank God for a remarkable first year of Practical Governance in Edo State.

Standing together, we lifted our voices in praise and prayed for continued wisdom, strength, and divine guidance as we begin another lap of service to our people.

The Bible remind us that when praises go up, blessings come down, and I am confident that as our praise rose in unity last night, Edo State received a fresh outpouring of God’s blessings.

We now march forward with renewed faith and determination toward bigger, greater, and more transformational achievements for our dear State.

A New Edo Has Risen.

Today, as I continued our First anniversary inspection across Edo State, I was deeply touched by the love and excitement from our people.
From Army Day Secondary School to the Adesuwa Flyover and the Okpagha–Amufi Road, the joy, the dancing, and the renewed hope reminded me why I serve.

In just 365 days, we have transformed abandoned schools, accelerated major road projects, and restored dignity to communities long neglected.
Seeing students, parents, traders, and community leaders celebrate these changes moved me profoundly.
I remain truly grateful — to God, and to the good people of Edo State who entrusted me with this responsibility. Your faith in me is my greatest motivation.
But this is only the beginning.
I assure you: by the end of this administration, Edo will be far better, safer, and more prosperous than we met it.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve. Thank you for believing in our journey.

A New Edo Has Risen, and the best is ahead.

GOV OKPEBHOLO DONATES PATROL VEHICLES TO BOOST SECURITY IN EDO CENTRAL

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo has commissioned and handed over 10 brand new Toyota Hilux patrol vehicles to the Nigeria Police Force, Irrua Area Command, in a move aimed at strengthening security operations across Edo Central Senatorial District in particular and Edo State in general.

The vehicles, which were officially received by the Area Commander recently, are part of the State Government’s continued efforts to support security agencies in combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Okpebholo emphasized that the initiative was driven by concern for the safety and welfare of the people.

The Governor said: “It is not because we have bought vehicles for the police. It is because of the concern of our people in terms of security.”

“To me, it is painful that somebody will go out from his house, he may not come back because of evil people. So what do we do? We must continue to fight them and chase them out of our land.”

He expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for deploying the Mobile Police (MOPOL), 82 Squadron to Uromi, describing the move as “very dear” to the people of the region.

Okpebholo explained: “We cannot just leave them like that without equipment, without utility vehicles. How would they work? When they hear that something is happening at another location, how will they get there? That is the essence of acquiring these vehicles for them.”

Governor Okpebholo also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued financial and developmental support to Edo State, noting that federal backing has been instrumental to the success of his administration.

“I want to say thank you to Mr. President, who believes in Edo and continues to fund us because without us having money from the President, we cannot do anything.

“We will continue to sing his praises because he has done well for us. The economic reforms he has carried out really speak volumes in terms of the development of this country," he noted.

The Majority Leader of Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Jonathan Ibhamawu, The Area Commander, and the Vice Chairman of PCRC, Edo Central, Shaka Momodu Williams all spoke in appreciation of the governor's effort in not only security but including other sectors.

Dignitaries present at the event included the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku; the State APC Chairman, Emperor Jarret Tenebe; retired General Cecil Esekhaigbe, Edo Central Senatorial Leader; and Senator Joe Ikpea, among others.

The event concluded with a symbolic presentation of the vehicle keys to the police authorities, marking another step in the state government’s ongoing drive to improve security infrastructure across Edo Central.

Over the weekend in Edo Central, I stood together with our party leaders, elders, and stakeholders as we unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.

I was joined by my Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa; Senator Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole; the Minister of Regional Development, Hon. Abubakar Momoh; Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku; Chief Pius Odubu; Senator Mathew Urhoghide; Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu; State Chairman of the APC, Emperor Jarret Tenebe; Retired General Cecil Isegaigbe; and many other distinguished leaders.

This endorsement is not just political — it reflects our appreciation for the President’s support to Edo State, especially in infrastructure development.
When I took our road challenges to Abuja, Mr. President responded immediately. Approvals have been given, and very soon, heavy machines will move into the Agbor Road axis and other priority sites.Edo people can already feel the impact of his leadership.

We also welcomed notable leaders from the PDP and Labour Party into our fold — a sign that the APC in Edo State is growing stronger, more united, and more prepared for the future.

As a party statesman and as Governor, I remain committed to my roots and to serving our people with sincerity and purpose. The show of unity proves that Edo APC is fully aligned, energized, and ready to deliver victory for President Tinubu and for our great party in 2027.
God bless the APC,
God bless Edo State, God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Welcome to November!
This Month is a special month for me, it marks my first Year in office as Governor of Edo State.

These past 350Days have been a remarkable journey of service, dedication, and practical governance. Every decision, every project, and every reform has been driven by one goal: to improve the lives of our people and build a stronger and more prosperous Edo State.

I am pleased that the evidence of our work is becoming clearer across our State — in our roads, our schools, our hospitals, our farms, our security and in the renewed hope of our people.

As we journey through this special month, I pray that Edo State continues to progress, that our unity grows stronger, and that the light of a New Edo continues to SHINE across all 18 local government areas and our Country Nigeria.
Happy New Month
A New Edo Has Risen.

Yesterday, I commissioned a new set of security vehicles for the Nigeria Police Area Command in Irrua, Edo Central, a step that is very personal to me because the safety of our people remains one of the strongest pillars of my SHINE Agenda.

I am deeply concerned about the security of our communities, and I am determined to strengthen our response capacity.

These vehicles, equipped with advanced technology, will support our officers in tackling crime, improving patrol efficiency, and keeping our families safer.
They will contribute greatly to helping us manage the security challenges in Edo Central, and parts of Edo North.

I urge our policemen and women to use them diligently and responsibly for the protection of our people.

Securing our state is not just a priority, it is a duty I take to heart.
