RE: POLITICS MUST NOT DESTROY THE DIGNITY OF THE BENIN PEOPLE
With due respect, Senator Ehigie Uzamere, your statement reeks of selective outrage.
1. On Dignity and His Word: You preach Benin dignity and values. Yet Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has contested and lost elections since 2016. He specifically promised the leadership of the party that if his wife was given the CMD position, he would not contest because Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-ihama had already been promised the ticket. He got what he asked for. Then he broke his word. Is that the “honour” and “noble heritage” you want Benin people to defend?
2. On Humiliation and Insults: You found the video of three young men “deeply disturbing.” But Ize-Iyamu’s social media handlers spent one full month insulting Governor Monday Okpebholo and Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama. They called them names, mocked the Governor’s office and called Ogbeide-ihama “a political omomon”. You paid no attention then. You saw no threat to “Benin dignity” when elected Benin sons were being dragged daily for about 30 days.
3. On Political Motives: Your sudden defense today is curious. It is alleged that Ize-Iyamu is coming to support ADC, your new party through the back door. Is that why respect for elders now matters, but respect for a sitting Governor of Edo State did not? Benin people see through selective morality.
4. On Forgiveness and Double Standards: Yes, none of us is perfect. But you cannot preach forgiveness and mutual respect only when it favors your political camp. You cannot demand decorum from three young men while ignoring one month of coordinated online insults and a broken promise to party leadership.
If we truly want to protect Benin dignity, then let it apply to all Benin sons including Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-ihama not just the ones joining your new party, the ADC.
Politics should not destroy our values. Neither should it destroy our sense of fairness and keeping to one’s word.
Oba gha tor kpere… Ise!!!
