IKPOBA-OKHA CHAIRMAN DONATES 500KVA TRANSFORMER, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO RURAL ELECTRIFICATION

The Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Jolly Obosa Ogbeide has received a 500kVA transformer at the council secretariat for onward donation to Osauwenze Street, by 3 House, in Ward 8 of Ikpoba-Okha LGA This gesture aligns with his administration’s rural electrification agenda and is in line with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE agenda for Edo State, which prioritizes infrastructure development, energy access, and improved quality of life for citizens.

Speaking at the presentation, Rt. Hon. Ogbeide said: “Our people deserve uninterrupted power supply to live better, do business, and stay secure. Though we have only spent a few months in office, our administration has already recorded viable and verifiable projects that touch the lives of our people directly. We are committed to sustaining this momentum and making Ikpoba-Okha a model for grassroots development in Edo State.”

He further revealed that about 12 transformers have been donated and handed over under his watch, with some already installed and others at various stages of installation. This, he noted, demonstrates his administration’s commitment to sustainable community development, transparency, and improved electricity access.

So far, the council has distributed and installed several transformers, including:

1. 300kVA transformer for Ikpoba community,

2. 300kVA for Obe community,

3. 500kVA for Ologbo community,

4. 300kVA for Eriaria/Eriaria Road/Evboriaria,

5. 500kVA for Uteh/Ekiuwa community,

6. 500kVA for Ogheghe community,

7. 500kVA for Aideyaen-Oba Quarters, Urora,

8. Installation of 33KVA special lines to the council and Idogbo community, spanning over 2km,

9. Installation of 500kVA transformer at Eke Street in Ward 6, and

10. Installation of 500kVA transformer at Nomayo.

Add and few other communities that have also received 500kva and 300kva transformers respectively

These interventions have significantly boosted electricity supply in the benefiting areas, bringing relief to residents, improving security, and stimulating local economic activities.

Similarly, the council is pleased to announce that significant progress has been made on the electrification project connecting Obayantor 1 community to the national grid. The project spans over 4 kilometres and marks a major milestone toward providing residents with stable and reliable electricity supply. Construction is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed in the shortest possible time. Once completed, this project will improve the quality of life in Obayantor 1, spur economic activities, and enhance overall community development.

EDO STATE WELDERS ’ ASSOCIATION PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO IKPOBA-OKHA COUNCIL CHAIRMAN

The Edo State Welders’ Association (ESWA) has paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government, Rt. Hon. Obosa Jolly Ogbeide, to familiarize themselves with his administration and present issues confronting welders within the council area. The visit, which began with an introduction by the association’s secretary, Mr. Omorodion Francis, was aimed at strengthening partnership with the local authority while seeking solutions to challenges faced by artisans in the Ikpoba-Okha axis.

In his remarks, the President of the Association, Sir Comr. Oghuma Peter Osagie (KSJI), expressed displeasure over the yearly levy of ₦10,000 charged by caravan tax collectors, describing it as a huge burden on artisans who are struggling to sustain their businesses and provide for their families. He appealed to the council chairman for a review and reduction of the levy to a more bearable and business-friendly rate. Furthermore, he pleaded with the council boss to endorse the association for welding and iron works contracts executed within the council, stressing that such recognition would boost productivity and create employment opportunities for local artisans.

The president also raised concerns over the multiple revenue charges on vehicles used for transporting iron and finished works, which he said had become unbearable for members. He requested the intervention of the chairman to address the situation and support welders with policies that would encourage compliance, reduce financial strain, and ultimately strengthen the local economy.

Responding, Rt. Hon. Obosa Jolly Ogbeide commended the association for their visit and acknowledged the vital role of welders in driving grassroots development. While assuring them of his administration’s commitment to creating a friendly environment for small businesses, he explained that the council could not legally endorse or compel contractors to engage only a particular association, as such action may lead to disputes and issues such as the use of substandard materials. On the issue of revenue from stoppage of heavy trucks conveying iron, he clarified that the levy was a state-imposed charge and not within the jurisdiction of the local government, advising the association to table their grievances before the Edo State Internal Revenue Service. He, however, promised to review the existing local levies to ensure fairness, affordability, and sustainability for artisans within the council area.
