APC First-Term Governors Back Tinubu’s Reforms, Endorse Renewed Hope Agenda Beyond 2027

Press Release

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State, on behalf of first-term governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has reaffirmed their total support for the economic reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and endorsed the continuity of the Renewed Hope Agenda beyond the 2027 general elections.

Governor Idris made the declaration on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi while presenting the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting of APC first-term governors held in the state.

He said the communiqué was issued in the spirit of patriotism, responsibility, accountability and national service, reflecting the governors’ collective commitment to promoting national stability, sustaining ongoing reforms and advancing inclusive development.

The governor acknowledged the sacrifices Nigerians have continued to make during the current period of economic adjustment, noting that families, workers, farmers, traders, transporters, youths, women and other vulnerable groups have all borne the burden of prevailing economic realities.

He, however, stressed that the governors firmly believe the reforms being implemented by the Federal Government are necessary to address years of accumulated fiscal, security, productivity and developmental challenges confronting the nation.

According to him, the reforms are aimed at stabilising the economy, restoring public finances, attracting investment, boosting productivity, strengthening security and laying a sustainable foundation for long-term economic growth and shared prosperity.

Governor Idris said the governors’ support for President Tinubu is anchored on the conviction that Nigeria requires courageous leadership, policy consistency, stronger collaboration between the Federal and State Governments, and a development agenda that rewards productivity, enterprise, agriculture, innovation and hard work.

“We declare our total support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and for the continuity of the Renewed Hope Agenda beyond 2027. We make this declaration as a commitment to national recovery, shared prosperity, democratic stability and the preservation of the Nigerian federation,” the communiqué stated.

The governors called on Nigerians, irrespective of region, religion or ethnicity, to remain united and look beyond the temporary challenges associated with the reforms. They urged citizens to stay committed to the successful implementation of the nation’s economic transformation agenda.

They also emphasised the need to sustain the reform programme while expanding relief interventions and social protection initiatives to cushion the impact of the reforms on vulnerable Nigerians.

On security, Governor Idris said the governors expressed deep concern over persistent insecurity in parts of the country, including kidnapping, school abductions, attacks on educational institutions, terrorism, banditry and other criminal activities.

They reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property through stronger collaboration with the Federal Government, security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, school authorities and local intelligence networks.

The communiqué condemned the abduction of children, attacks on schools, the killing of innocent citizens and all acts of terrorism and criminality capable of undermining education, economic activities, public confidence and national peace.

The governors pledged to intensify efforts to secure schools and communities, rescue victims, prosecute perpetrators and restore confidence in the nation’s security architecture.

The governors also expressed concern over reported attacks, killings and acts of hostility against Nigerians and other African nationals in South Africa.

While reaffirming respect for South Africa’s sovereignty and the cordial relationship between both countries, they condemned xenophobia, mob violence, unlawful killings and all forms of abuse against foreign nationals. They urged the South African authorities to thoroughly investigate the incidents, ensure the protection of law-abiding Nigerians and other African residents, and bring those responsible to justice in accordance with international law and diplomatic norms.

NAN MD Urges Gov. Nasir Idris to Ignore Distractions, Focus on Development

PRESS RELEASE

The Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ali M. Ali, has advised the Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, not to be distracted by the opposition or enemies of the state, but to remain focused on delivering good governance.

Ali gave the advice during a courtesy visit by the Kebbi State media aides to his office in Abuja. He described Governor Idris as an honest, transparent, and God-fearing leader who consistently places the interests of the people above all else.

“I have known Kaura Gwandu for a long time. He is a God-fearing man. I have been following the developmental projects he has executed across the state. I served in Kebbi during the Dakingari administration, and I can clearly see the remarkable transformation, especially in the state capital,” he said.

The NAN Managing Director assured the governor of the agency’s commitment to objective and balanced reporting of his administration’s developmental achievements, while giving them the publicity they deserve.

In his remarks, the Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration with NAN and enhancing publicity for Governor Nasir Idris’ people-oriented policies and programmes.

The commissioner also dismissed rumours of a new insurgent group operating in Kebbi State, describing the reports as false.

“What we have are internet fraudsters, popularly known as Yahoo boys, who specialise in online scams. There is no new insurgent group operating in Kebbi State,” he said.

Ahmed highlighted the achievements of the Nasir Idris administration, noting that every sector has benefited from meaningful capital projects.

According to him, the government has executed major road infrastructure projects, distributed free fertilisers and other agricultural inputs to farmers, constructed and renovated primary healthcare centres and hospitals, and built as well as rehabilitated schools across the 21 local government areas of the state.

The delegation, led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, included the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yahaya Sarki; Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris; Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment and Orientation,Alh Ibrahim Abubakar Jombali; Special Adviser on New Media, Aliyu Bandado; and Special Adviser on Strategic Communication, Alhaji Abdullahi Idris Zuru.

Kebbi Disburses N160m Cash, N10m Grains, Empowers 20,000 Under Zakat, Waqf Programmes

Press Statement

The Kebbi State Ministry of Religious Affairs says it has disbursed N160 million in cash and grains worth N10 million as Zakat to vulnerable persons across the state.

The Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Arc. Sani Aliyu, disclosed this on Monday during an Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Ministry of Information and Culture, Bola Tinubu Ultra-Modern State Secretariat, Birnin Kebbi.

Aliyu said the briefing was to showcase the achievements and successes recorded by the Kauran Gwandu administration in the ministry over the last three years.

He explained that both the cash and grains were distributed to vulnerable members of the society in line with the provisions of the Holy Qur’an.

On economic empowerment, Aliyu said the ministry supported small-scale business owners with N500,000 under its Productive Zakat Programme.

The commissioner recalled that prior to the emergence of the present administration, there had been repeated calls for the establishment of a Ministry of Religious Affairs, but the agitations yielded no result.

“However, when Kauran Gwandu assumed office, he demonstrated wisdom and political will by actualising the dream. Specifically, the ministry was established on Aug. 18, 2023,” he said.

According to him, the governor’s vision in creating the ministry was to ensure the smooth management of religious affairs, provide a level playing field for all religions, tackle moral decadence, and build a morally upright society.

Clarifying misconceptions about Sharia, the commissioner said: “Sharia is meant to protect everyone’s rights, dignity, and reputation.

"It is not designed to hurt or deprive anyone of their rights, but to promote decency, morality, and a sound society.

"Sharia is intended to curb moral decadence and encourage people to live in accordance with religious teachings.”

He commended His Excellency, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, for establishing the ministry and providing it with the necessary support and cooperation to succeed.

Aliyu noted that the people of Kebbi State had agitated for the creation of the ministry for over 30 years, and that the agitation was finally fulfilled under the current administration.

“We are most grateful for your wisdom, courage, and resilience,” he said.

To ensure equal opportunity for all citizens, the governor also cleared an outstanding debt of about N18 million that had prevented Christians from Kebbi from performing pilgrimage.

He said when the issue was raised during a courtesy visit by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the governor immediately directed that the payment be made before the delegation left the Government House.

“The amount was sourced and presented to the CAN leadership to settle the debt and enable Christians from Kebbi to perform their pilgrimage like any other Nigerian Christians,” he revealed.

He added that the ministry had resolved 1,496 marriage and community disputes in the last three years as part of efforts to promote peaceful coexistence and strengthen family values across the state

The commissioner further disclosed that more than 20,000 mental health patients benefited from free medical care under the Zakat and Waqf Programme.

He said the ministry also treated 114 cases of pregnancy outside wedlock, nine cases of marriages contracted after pregnancy, and 132 cases involving girls allegedly kept by men without their parents’ consent.

Aliyu added that the ministry handled 27 cases of women reportedly found in the bush and believed to be under spiritual influence, 169 cases involving young and married women found in hotels and guest houses, and rescued 43 mentally ill persons who were hospitalized.

“We arrested 17 persons for smoking ma*****na and sh**ha. We also handled 1,253 cases of alcohol and drug abuse, 98 court-referred cases, 37 theft cases, and 271 other cases of alleged immoral conduct,” he said.

He added that the ministry’s annual Ramadan feeding programme provides meals for about 20,000 needy persons daily throughout the fasting period.

Aliyu said the ministry continues to train and retrain imams and Islamic scholars to improve their competence. Interfaith engagements and dialogue sessions are also regularly organized to promote unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence in the state.
