I initially didn't want to comment on the judgment till ASUU made its position known to the public. But that's an interesting ruling from the appeal court. To qualify to complain, you have to obey the order first? Wow! I have never heard of such a judgment from an appeal court. It appears that the military's "obey before complain" is being institutionalized by the judiciary. To "the owners of Nigeria" be the glory. We await the directive from the union.

Whatever the decision of the union is, a lot will never be the same again in the university after the strike. I am scared of the commitment of lecturers to the work. Are we getting to the end of the road?

Are you celebrating the funny ruling as a victory for your demigod? Hahaha. I will remind you of this celebration when the chips are down. They are "our universities" and not "my university", there kids are not there. The death of these universities like the public primary and secondary schools will affect all of us.

Meanwhile, President Buhari declared at the National Assembly that FG cannot fund tertiary education alone. Dear students, you heard him right. Your financial capability is not important. Those that will graduate this academic year should count themselves lucky. For the rest, may God make it easy for you to be able to graduate.

Best wishes....

The poverty of sincerity gets deeper...

As the Speaker of the House of Representatives is making efforts to resolve the ASUU-FG issue with Ngige in attendance, Ngige has refused to give up his mischief. His call on Friday that ASUU's refusal to obey the court judgment, a court judgment that had been appealed, has consequences fell on deaf ears. Seeing that he can't do anything about the court order, he wondered why all the steps he has taken so far have failed to yield his desired result. Instead of having fun with his family during the Independence Day celebration, he used the holiday time to think of his next line of mischief. He resumed office after the Independence Day holiday on Tuesday with a plan. Ngige sent an invite to journalists for the presentation of the certificate of registration to CONUA. This is an association whose only member in ABU is currently on secondment at the presidency.

Ngige seems to have taken the ASUU-FG issue very personal. That was obvious from his lie that the ASUU president said APC should not be voted for keeping students at home, a lie that the Speaker instantly debunked. The slap on the back of the ASUU President, when he staged a walk-out of the meeting, made the personalization more obvious.

On a good day, you would have thought that the Minister of Labour is well educated. But is this his own way of finding solutions to the contending issues? As Reno Omokri tweeted in 2018, ‘’I hope Okija shrine did not do permanent damage to Chris Ngige’s psyche!". Let him keep dancing naked around the market square and embarrassing the government instead of being proactive with sincere efforts to solve the contending issues. The solution to the issue is simple. When you are done with your dance, bring out the renegotiated 2009 agreement document as submitted by the Briggs Renegotiated Committee.

INDEPENDENCE DAY ADDRESS BY MUHAMMADU BUHARI, PRESIDENT AND COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA DELIVERED ON THE OCCASION OF NIGERIA’S 62ND INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION ON 1ST OCTOBER, 2022

Fellow Nigerians,

I address you today, with a deep sense of gratitude to God and a high level of appreciation to all Nigerians whose tremendous goodwill gave me the opportunity to provide leadership for our great country at one of the trying times in her history.

2.Conscious that today’s address would be my last on an Independence Day as your President; I speak to the millions of Nigerians, who believed in me, propelled and stood by me in my quest to bequeath a country where all citizens have equal opportunities to achieve their lives desires in a peaceful atmosphere.

3.I am honoured to say that my story in the annals of Nigeria’s history is no household secret. My various attempts, failures and eventual success in being elected as a Democratic President in 2015 was made possible by the majority of Nigerians.

4. When you elected me, I readily acknowledged that the tasks before me were daunting but surmountable because of the growing national consensus that our chosen route to national development was democracy.

5.This democracy was to be anchored on a clear understanding, application and the principles of separation of powers supported by a reformed public service that is more effective.

6.I then pledged to Improve the Economy, Tackle Corruption and Fight Insecurity and this was further strengthened by my commitment to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in ten years as the central plank of my second term in 2019.

7.To the Glory of God and His Grace as well as the commitment and passion displayed by many Nigerian supporters, we have made appreciable progress in these areas but not yet at our destination.

ACADEMIC STAFF UNION OF UNIVERSITIES (ASUU) - STRIKE UPDATE.

Our strike action is in its 8th month. As we press on with the struggle, members are
saluted for remaining steadfast in the face of deprivations occasioned by the stoppage of our salaries. We have demonstrated to our maligners that we are a group of principled men and women who cannot be intimidated. This resolve has started yielding fruits as demonstrated by series of engagements with us by relevant stakeholders and agents of government.

In the last two weeks, we have had two engagements with the leadership of House of Representatives, led by the Honourable Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila. The engagements have been useful and illuminating, and all the parties agreed that negotiation is the sustainable way out of the current impasse. The distraction of the referral by the Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment to the National Industrial Court (NLC) had been responded to promptly and appropriately. The interlocutory injunction had been appealed, in addition to a stay of ex*****on. Consequently, we are not in violation of that order by remaining on our strike.

We remain hopeful that the issues under consideration will receive a favourable
consideration and approval of Mr. President. The days ahead would be critical to our struggle as some overzealous public officers who are bent on undermining our struggle
would not easily give up. However, we are encouraged by the development of the past week, and all that is expected of us now is to be eternally vigilant and resolute to pursue this struggle to a logical conclusio...
