Zulum Appoints Dr. Mairo Mandara, 23 others as Chairmen and Governing Council Members for Three Colleges of Nursing Sciences

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the appointment of Chairmen and members of the Governing Councils for the Colleges of Nursing Sciences located in Maiduguri, Gwoza, and Monguno.

Those appointed are Dr Mairo Mandara, Chief Adviser to Borno State Governor as Chairman of the Governing Council College of Nursing Sciences, Gwoza; Hajiya Hauwa Mustapha, retired local government Secretary and seasoned nurse, as Chairman of the Governing Council College of Nursing Sciences, Maiduguri; and Rukaiya Shettima Kamfut, retired Provost College of Nursing Sciences, Maiduguri, as Chairman of the College of Nursing Sciences, Monguno.

The appointments are in line with the provisions of the laws enacted by Borno State House of Assembly establishing the three colleges which mandate the constitution of a Governing Council for each institution.

Governor Zulum approved the appointments based on the nominees’ proven records of integrity in public service, educational background, and their demonstrated commitment to community development.

According to the provisions of the laws, each Governing Council shall consist of a Chairman and seven other members. Four of the members are statutory, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, the Director of Nursing Services, the Provost of the respective College, and the Registrar who will serve as Secretary of the Council.

The remaining three members are to represent community interests and are drawn from the three senatorial districts of the state.

The establishment of the governing councils is expected to strengthen institutional governance and enhance the effective management of the Colleges of Nursing Sciences as part of the state government’s broader efforts to improve healthcare manpower development in Borno State.

Coalition of APC Borno South Youth Groups, Party Leaders unite to deepen grassroots mobilisation

The Coalition of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Borno South Youth Groups (CABS-Youth) has held a strategic meeting with the Borno State leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by the State Chairman, Rt. Hon. Bello Ayuba ahead of the preparation for the forthcoming Congress and 2027 general elections.

The meeting focused on strengthening grassroots mobilisation, promoting inclusivity, and consolidating the party’s growing success across Borno South.

The State Chairman, Rt. Hon. Bello, whose leadership has guided the APC to significant electoral victories in the state, applauded the coalition’s dedication to grassroots engagement and inclusive participation.

He highlighted the developmental strides of the administration of Prof Engr. Babagana Umara Zulum, noting that the governor’s commitment and impactful projects have strengthened the party’s acceptance among the people.

According to him, "the visible progress across communities has made party work easier and positioned the APC strongly", though, he cautioned members not to underestimate the opposition come 2027.

Commending the coalition’s foresight and patriotism, the chairman expressed pride in the group’s inclusive structure, gender balance, and religious harmony, pointing out that all the nine local government areas of Borno South were fully represented.

He urged the coalition to sustain its mobilisation tour and intensify support for the APC at all levels.

“The APC has all it takes to succeed, and with committed groups like this coalition, greater success lies ahead,” he said.

Earlier, in his remarks, the Chairman of CABS-YOUTH Hon. Mohammed Musa Nasir, assured the party leadership of the coalition’s commitment to the growth and success of the APC across Borno South.

Also speaking, the Coalition Secretary, Hon. Junaid Jibril Maiva, appreciated the APC State Executive Committee for the warm reception and reaffirmed that the coalition would expand its mobilisation drive to every nook and cranny of the zone in support of the party.

The meeting was attended by key APC stakeholders, including the Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Kalla Maina Monguno, State Secretary, Barr. Mustapha Loskuri, Zonal Chairman (Central), Alhaji Zanna Babakura Makinta Zarami, Welfare Officer, Mallam Bulin, Legal Adviser, Barr. Babashehu Zanna, Members of the coalition and other party officials.

PRESIDENT TINUBU APPOINTS AMB. ISMAIL ABBA YUSUF CHAIRMAN OF NAHCON

President Bola Tinubu has nominated Amb. Ismail Abba Yusuf as the new Chairman/CEO of the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON).

The appointment is subject to the Senate's approval in accordance with the provisions of section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2006.

President Tinubu sent a letter today to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, requesting the expeditious confirmation of Ambassador Yusuf to replace Professor Abdullahi Usman, who resigned this week, after about 14 months in the post.

Ambassador Yusuf is a seasoned Nigerian career diplomat who served as the Nigerian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Türkiye from 2021 to 2024.
