Rotatory Wisdom

Those who say that the President of Nigeria or the Governor of any of its component States can and should come from any parts are the real enemies of the people . Their pretensions that the conditions which made the emergence and enshrinement of the Federal character principle in the constitution no longer exist are hugely reprehensible.

I call on all men of character, sound character , to stop these felons in their tracks, no matter how sugar coated their pretensions might be.

The zoning of public offices, particularly political offices, is a genuine recongnition that , indeed, there exist real disadvantageous disparities in the population, education and resource endowments of the various people of Nigeria and that a mechanism is needed to balance these disadvantages in a manner that will allay fears of the minorities and the marginalised.

To this extent, therefore, zoning of the offices of the Governor and that of the President is sacrosanct and should not be toyed with. For Cross River State, it is the turn of the Southern Senatorial zone to produce the Governor, while it is the turn of the South Eastern zone to produce the President of the Federation come 2023.
The alternative will be to supritend over the fragmentation of the little cohesion which recent events have left us with. A word, they say, is enough for the wise.

Cross River: PDP Stakeholders To Decide Zoning Of Governorship – Chairman

By Asare Asare, Daily Post Chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Cross River State, Mr. Venatius Ikem, has said that stakeholders are those to decide which of the three senatorial districts in the State shall produce the governor in 2023. In the last few days, there have been....

There is only one course ahead and that is the gubernatorial seat going to the Southern Senatorial District of the state.
As a state, we have enjoyed oneness following the peaceful and gentleman agreement that governorship should based on a rotational formula.
Conventional as it is, it is very healthy to growth and development. It would go round and everyone would be happy if only we accept that it should remain the working formula for power sharing.
It is the time and the turn of the South, don't keep quiet about it.

On Zoning:

Take a careful look at those politicians who keep shouting “No zoning, no zoning” they are those who have selfish political ambitions for 2023. The rest are those who continue to survive from the crumps that falls from their table.
Those who say there is no zoning in Cross River State are either wicked, ignorant or a combination of both.

They are ignorant of the fact that right deep within the belly of our dear state, quietly lies the spirits of zoning soundly.

Zoning has always been part of us, simply because of the peculiarity of our country. Otherwise why should we talk about federal character? We even have a Commission to that effect.

The PDP itself has zoning enshrined in their constitution. Indeed all political parties practice unwritten constitutional zoning. That is why no political party can zone their national chairmanship and presidential ticket to the same zone.

Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe himself campaigned on the grounds of zoning, that the old Ogoja needed to spot on the senatorial slot.

During the 1999 elections the battle was purely between the North and Southern Cross River. Nobody gave Central a thought, because they had Clement Ebri in 1992.

It is a FACT that all zones from 1999 till 2019 participated in the governorship elections in the State. But the TRUTH remains that no one outside the preferred zone ever got elected. The argument has never been about anyone’s right to contest, rather the MESSAGE has always been on the overall result of the election. Cross Riverians have always spoken in very clear and sound tune.

In a state with about 60 languages with diverse ethnic and cultural bends, you will be not less than wicked not to preach equity and equality no matter how much you dine and party with competence. After all, competence resides in all zones.

It is only a bad father that will encourage his 5year old to continue to share a plate of porridge with his 24year old. One day he will return to find the little chap gravely malnourished.

In 2023, Cross River will vote all South.
