THE ACCOUNTANT GENERAL JOINS GOVERNOR BASSEY OTU IN THANKSGIVING SERVICE HONOURING THE LEGACY OF HIS LATE PARENTS

The Accountant General of Cross River State, Dr. Mrs. Glory Tony Effiong, today joined His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, members of the State Executive Council, government officials, family members, friends and well-wishers at a special Thanksgiving Service held in honour of the cherished memories of the Governor's late parents, Late Elder and Mrs. Edet Okon Otu.

The solemn and inspiring service celebrated the remarkable lives of two individuals whose enduring legacy of faith, compassion, discipline, humility and selfless service continues to inspire generations of Cross Riverians.

Speaking after the service, the Accountant General described the thanksgiving as a fitting tribute to parents whose values continue to reflect in the Governor's style of leadership and unwavering commitment to the People First Agenda. She noted that the lessons of integrity, service, compassion and dedication to humanity exemplified by the late Elder and Mrs. Otu remain worthy of emulation.

Dr. Glory Tony Effiong prayed for the peaceful repose of their souls and asked God to continue granting His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, divine wisdom, strength and good health as he continues to provide purposeful leadership for the people of Cross River State.

The Accountant General was accompanied by members of the management and staff of the Office of the Accountant General, who joined other dignitaries in celebrating a life of service, honour and lasting legacy.

May the souls of Late Elder and Mrs. Edet Okon Otu continue to rest in perfect peace. 🙏

Cross River Hosts PEBEC Nationwide Technical Workshop on Business Reforms and Investment Competitiveness"

Cross River State today played host to stakeholders from across the country at the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) Nationwide Subnational Engagement and Technical Reform Workshop 2026, held at the Kairo Event Centre, Calabar.

The workshop, which focused on Business-Enabling Reforms and Investment Competitiveness, brought together government officials, technical experts, entrepreneurs and private sector participants to discuss practical strategies for improving the ease of doing business and attracting sustainable investments.

Speaking at the event, the Accountant General of Cross River State, Dr. Mrs. Glory Tony Effiong, expressed profound appreciation to His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, Governor of Cross River State, for his unwavering support towards reforms, capacity-building initiatives and programmes aimed at driving economic growth and development within the State.

The workshop featured resource persons and facilitators from different parts of Nigeria, many of whom expressed admiration for the remarkable achievements and reforms recorded by Cross River State under the present administration. During the interactive sessions, participants commended the State's commitment to creating a conducive environment for business, investment and economic prosperity.

One of the facilitators aptly captured the essence of the workshop with the powerful statement:

"Investment follows ex*****on; systems convert interest to capital."

The workshop provided participants with valuable insights into policy implementation, regulatory reforms and institutional best practices required to strengthen the business environment. It also reinforced the need for public officers and stakeholders to ensure compliance with established policies while promoting transparency, accountability and ethical conduct in service delivery.

With robust participation from government agencies, the private sector, and entrepreneurs, the workshop ended on a high note, inspiring participants to become active drivers of reform and champions of a more competitive, investment-friendly Cross River State.

COURTESY VISIT BY ACADEMIC STAFF UNION OF UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP (UEE)

The Accountant General of Cross River State, Dr. Mrs. Glory Tony Effiong, today received members of the Association of Academic Staff Union of the University of Education and Entrepreneurship (UEE) on a courtesy visit to her office.

The delegation expressed profound appreciation to the administration of His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, Governor of Cross River State, for his unwavering commitment to the education sector, particularly for the successful transition of the institution from a College of Education to a full-fledged University.

They also commended the State Government for the regular payment of salaries and the continuous support being extended to the institution and its workforce.
While expressing their gratitude, the union also presented some concerns relating to outstanding salary issues affecting a number of staff members and appealed for government intervention.

Responding, the Accountant General assured the delegation that the concerns raised would receive prompt attention. She reaffirmed the commitment of the Governor's administration to the welfare of workers and assured the union that necessary steps would be taken to address the issues and provide positive feedback as soon as possible.

The delegation thanked the Accountant General for her accessibility, dedication and consistent intervention in matters affecting the institution, noting that her support has continued to contribute significantly to the progress and stability of the University.

The visit further underscores the people-centered leadership of His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, whose administration remains committed to educational advancement, workers' welfare, and sustainable development across Cross River State.
