The Honourable Commissioner for Water Resources, Engr. Usman Ahmed, MNSE, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Alh. Mohammed Bello Saleh, along with several Directors and Technical Officers, paid an inspection visit to the ongoing upgrading of the Dumar–Gumsi Water Supply Project in Yusufari Local Government Area.
The project site is located in one of the state's regions facing serious hydrogeological challenges. Due to the poor groundwater conditions in Gumsi, boreholes and water work were constructed in Dumar town, located in Nguru Local Government Area, approximately 20 kilometers away. Water is then pumped from Dumar to serve the Gumsi community.
The Ministry's team expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project and urged the contractor to ensure completion within the stipulated timeframe.

Water Scarcity: Gov. Buni raises Diesel supply to 60,000 Litres for Damaturu, Environs
...Directs Community Involvement In Distribution Process

H.E Governor Mai Mala Buni CON, has raised the monthly supply of diesel from 40,000 litres to 60,000 to power boreholes in order to improve water supply in Damaturu the state capital and environs.

Governor Buni has also directed the Yobe State Water Corporation to involve the community in the distribution process for optimum utilisation of the diesel to power all public boreholes in the capital city and surrounding areas.

The General Manager (GM) of Yobe State Water Corporation, Engr. Mahdi Baba Zarma said on Friday Governor Buni raised the diesel supply from 40,000 to 60,000 monthly to bring an end to water scarcity facing Damaturu and environs.

Engr. Zarma said that with the increased to 60,000 litres and involvement of the community in the distribution process there is enough diesel for distribution to enable the powering of all boreholes in the affected areas.

"The water scarcity arose due to the destruction of a critical 330KV electricity transmission line by unknown vandals. This left many boreholes to rely 100% on generators and significantly impacting on access to clean water for residents.

"Following the scarcity, Governor Buni directed the immediate distribution of diesel to all boreholes in Damaturu and environs to ease the problem of water scarcity being faced. With the increased in the supply of diesel, it is certain that the problem would be addressed," the GM assured.

Today, the Honorable Commissioner of the Ministry of Water, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary Alhaji Abdullahi Abba, the Director of Water Supply (also the Project Coordinator), Sadi Abdullahi Hamza (one of the Project Supervisors), and the Ministry's Information Officer, Madam Becky Luka, visited the Damaturu Regional Water Scheme at Well Field B in Sunsumma.
During the visit, they assessed the progress of the water project and discussed its current status.
