CP TIJJANI MOURNS THE PASSING OF THE EMIR OF GUMEL, ALHAJI (DR.) AHMAD MUHAMMAD SANI II, CON

The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, CP Tijjani Murtala, psc, mnips, on behalf of the officers and men of the Jigawa State Police Command, deeply mourns the passing of the Emir of Gumel, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmad Muhammad Sani II CON, who passed away today, Thursday, 3rd September 2026, in Cairo, Egypt.

The Commissioner of Police extends heartfelt condolences to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Jigawa State; the Government and people of Jigawa State; the Gumel Emirate Council; the royal family; and the entire people of Gumel Emirate over this profound and irreparable loss.

The late Emir was a revered traditional institution, a distinguished elder, a custodian of the rich heritage and traditions of his people, and a father to all. Throughout his reign, he demonstrated exemplary wisdom, dignity, humility, and unwavering commitment to the peace, unity, stability, and development of Gumel Emirate and Jigawa State.

His Royal Highness was a strong advocate for peaceful coexistence and harmonious relationships among communities. His wisdom, counsel, and contributions to the promotion of peace and security will remain deeply appreciated by the Jigawa State Police Command and the people he served.

His transition has created a great vacuum in the traditional institution and constitutes a significant loss to Gumel Emirate, Jigawa State, and Nigeria as a whole. The Command particularly acknowledges the late Emir's support and cooperation with security agencies in maintaining peace, law, and order, as well as his commitment to the welfare and progress of his subjects.

At this moment of grief, the Jigawa State Police Command stands firmly with the government and people of Jigawa State, the Gumel Emirate Council, the royal household, and the bereaved family. We pray that Almighty Allah gives everyone affected by this sad development the fortitude to bear the loss.

We further beseech Almighty Allah SWT, in His infinite mercy and compassion, to forgive the shortcomings of the departed Emir, accept his good deeds, reward his years of service to humanity, illuminate and expand his grave, and grant him the highest station in Jannatul Firdaus.

May Allah SWT also preserve the Gumel Emirate, strengthen the traditional institution, and continue to bless Jigawa State with peace, unity, security, and prosperity.

CP TIJJANI RECEIVES DIRECTOR GENERAL, PILGRIMS WELFARE BOARD, ON COURTESY VISIT

The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, CP Tijjani Murtala, psc, mnips, today, Thursday, September 3, 2026, received the Director General of the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alh Ahmad Umar Labbo, FCFA, NFI, who paid a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters as part of efforts to strengthen institutional collaboration and enhance effective security coordination.

The visit provided an opportunity for both institutions to discuss areas of mutual interest, particularly the importance of robust security arrangements, effective communication, inter-agency cooperation, and the protection of pilgrims and other stakeholders throughout the Hajj operational process.

While receiving the Director General and his entourage, the Commissioner of Police appreciated the visit and commended the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board for its vital role in coordinating the welfare and religious obligations of pilgrims from the State.

CP Tijjani Murtala assured the delegation of the Command's readiness to sustain close collaboration with the Board and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of pilgrims and officials. He emphasized that the Police Command remains committed to providing professional, responsive, and intelligence-led security services whenever required.

The Commissioner further stressed the importance of early planning, information sharing, and coordinated security arrangements, noting that effective collaboration among relevant agencies remains essential to achieving a smooth, safe, and successful pilgrimage operation.

CP TIJJANI HOLDS STRATEGIC MEETING WITH POLITICAL LEADERS, INEC, SIGNS PEACE ACCORD AHEAD OF FORTHCOMING ELECTORAL PROCESSES

Today, Thursday, September 3, 2026, the Jigawa State Police Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, psc, mnips, held a strategic meeting with political leaders and critical stakeholders in the state, culminating in the signing of a peace accord ahead of the forthcoming electioneering campaigns and electoral processes.

The meeting, which was organized as part of the Command's proactive approach towards ensuring peaceful, credible, and violence-free political activities in Jigawa State, brought together officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), chairmen of all registered political parties, party executives, and members of the media.

Among the political parties represented at the meeting were the Accord Party, All Progressives Congress (APC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and Young Progressives Party (YPP), among others.

In his welcome address and briefing, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, psc, mnips, warmly welcomed the invited guests and commended the political parties, INEC, and the media for honouring the Command's invitation. He emphasized the importance of collective responsibility, mutual respect, tolerance, and strict adherence to the provisions of the law throughout the electioneering period.

The CP stressed that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to providing a secure environment in which all political parties, candidates, supporters, electoral officials, observers, and members of the public can freely participate in the electoral process without fear, intimidation, harassment, or violence.

He further called on political leaders to caution their supporters against acts capable of undermining peace and public order, including hate speech, inflammatory statements, use of social media in a negative form, vote buying, ballot-box snatching, thuggery, intimidation, destruction of campaign materials, carrying of weapons, and other forms of electoral malpractice or violence.

The Commissioner also reiterated the Command's commitment to professionalism, impartiality, intelligence-led policing, community engagement, and strict enforcement of relevant laws, assuring all stakeholders that the Police would provide a level playing field and maintain law and order before, during, and after the electoral processes.

The representative of INEC, led by the Commission's Administrative Secretary, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, JP, also addressed the gathering and highlighted the responsibilities of political parties and other stakeholders in ensuring that the electoral process is conducted peacefully and in accordance with established laws, rules, and guidelines.

In an interactive session, the chairmen of the various registered political parties were given the opportunity to make meaningful contributions, comments, observations, and recommendations concerning the forthcoming electioneering activities. The party leaders expressed their views on issues relating to peaceful campaigns, security, political tolerance, stakeholder cooperation, and the need for all parties to conduct themselves responsibly throughout the electoral process.

The Command welcomed the constructive contributions and assured the political leaders that their observations would be given due consideration within the scope of the police mandate.

A major highlight of the occasion was the signing of the Peace Accord, during which the participating political parties and relevant stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful political engagement, respect for democratic values, compliance with electoral laws, and the rejection of violence before, during, and after the elections.

The Command considers the Peace Accord a significant demonstration of collective commitment by political actors and stakeholders towards preserving the peace and security for which Jigawa State is known.

The meeting concluded with a closing prayer, followed by a group photograph involving the Commissioner of Police, INEC representatives, political party chairmen and executives, and members of the Command Management Team.

The Jigawa State Police Command therefore calls on the people of the state to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and vigilant, while assuring the general public that adequate security measures will be put in place to safeguard lives and property and ensure the peaceful conduct of all forthcoming electioneering and electoral activities.

CP TIJJANI RECEIVES COMMISSIONER FOR LANDS AND AFAN CHAIRMAN ON COURTESY VISIT

The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, CP Tijjani Murtala, psc, mnips, today, Wednesday, 2nd August, 2026, received the Honourable Commissioner for Lands, Housing, Urban Development, and Regional Planning, who is also a member of the Jigawa State Executive Council and Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Jigawa State, on a working courtesy visit to the Command.

The Honourable Commissioner was accompanied by members of his management team, while the AFAN Chairman also came along with members of the Association's executive committee. They were received by the Commissioner of Police alongside members of the Command Management Team at the Command Conference Hall, Dutse.

The visit provided an opportunity for both sides to deliberate on matters of mutual interest, particularly those relating to peace, security, land administration, agricultural development, and the prevention of farmers-herders-related conflicts across Jigawa State.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police appreciated the Honourable Commissioner and the AFAN leadership for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of their commitment to strengthening inter-agency and stakeholder collaboration towards maintaining peace and security in the state.

OPERATION VELVET: 27 VEHICLES IMPOUNDED, OFFENDERS CHARGED TO COURT

The Jigawa State Police Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, psc, mnips, has intensified the ongoing Operation Velvet, a strategic enforcement operation aimed at ensuring strict compliance with road traffic laws and regulations, promoting road safety, and curbing reckless practices by motorists across the state.

During the ongoing operation, police personnel intercepted and impounded twenty-seven (27) motor vehicles found to have contravened relevant road traffic laws. The offenses recorded include overloading, driving without a valid driver's license, and the use of unauthorized tinted permits, among other related violations.

The affected motorists were apprehended in accordance with the law, while the vehicles were impounded for necessary legal action. The suspects were subsequently charged before the appropriate court for prosecution, in line with due process and the provisions of the applicable laws.

The Commissioner of Police reiterates that Operation Velvet is not targeted at any individual or group but is a law-enforcement initiative designed to promote discipline among road users, protect lives and property, and ensure that motorists operate within the confines of the law.

The Command therefore urges all motorists and other road users to obtain and carry valid driver's licenses, avoid overloading their vehicles, comply with all vehicle registration and roadworthiness requirements, and desist from the use of unauthorized tinted permits.

The operation is ongoing and will be sustained and extended to all nooks and crannies of Jigawa State, including major towns, highways, feeder roads, and other strategic locations, to ensure comprehensive enforcement of road traffic laws.

The Commissioner of Police calls on members of the public to cooperate with police personnel and other relevant agencies during the operation, stressing that law-abiding motorists have nothing to fear.

The Jigawa State Police Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property and ensuring a safe, orderly, and secure road environment for all residents and road users.

ARREST OF SEVENTEEN SUSPECTS
..*As 5 motorcycles, 5 cows, 9 smartphones, 1 keypad, 44 batteries, 4 SIM cards, 1 laptop, 1 plasma TV, 1 tubular battery, 1 ceiling fan, 2 goats, and 1 sheep were recovered.*

The Jigawa State Police Command has recorded another operational success in its efforts to combat theft, shopbreaking, cattle rustling, vandalism, armed robbery, and other criminal activities across the state, with the arrest of seventeen (17) suspects during separate operations in Malam Madori, Gwaram, Garki, Kiyawa, Taura, Birniwa, Dutse, Ringim, Miga, Kazaure, and Roni Local Government Areas.

The operations followed credible intelligence, prompt response, and effective police investigations. The interventions led to the arrest of suspects and recovery of stolen property and exhibits.

The recovered exhibits include two boxers/Bajaj/Hajoue and rubber-rubber motorcycles, five (5) cows, two (2) stolen goats, one (1) sheep, nine (9) Android smartphones, a keypad, forty-four (44) batteries, four (4) different SIM cards, a Lenovo laptop, a TV set, a solar battery, a ceiling fan, parts of vandalized school desks, cutting pliers, a ring spanner, and two pairs of shoes were also recovered.

In a separate armed robbery case, three (3) suspects were arrested in connection with the robbery of a Boxer motorcycle valued at ₦1.2 million, which is yet to be recovered.

The suspects arrested include Usman Sale 'm' age 30yrs of Agufa village, Miga LGA; Abubakar Aminu 'm' age 18yrs of Katutu Qtrs; Musa Sale 'm' age 22yrs of Tsigi Qtrs; and Abubakar Bashir 'm' age 22yrs of Tsigi Qtrs, all of Ringim LGA; Ya'u Yahaya 'm' age 29yrs of Kofar Fada, Kafin Hausa LGA; Shaibu Muhd 'm' age 28yrs of Gajirma village, Birniwa LGA; Anas Uba 'm' age 32yrs of Andaza town, Kiyawa LGA; Gali Ibrahim 'm' 25yrs of Bagara Qtrs; Shafi'u Ilyasu 'm' age 23yrs of Bagara Qtrs, Kazaure LGA; and Haruna Alhaji 'm' age 30yrs of Dagana camp, Guri LGA; Musa Haruna 'm' age 20yrs; Basiru Datti 'm' age 30yrs; Abdullahi Bello 'm' age 23yrs; Usman Adamu 'm' age 30yrs; Adamu Sani 'm' age 25yrs; Umar Wada 'm' age 30yrs, of Ningi LGA, Bauchi State; and Salisu Nasiru 'm' age 17yrs of Kantsauni.

Meanwhile, an investigation is ongoing to trace the owners of the recovered property and hand it over on bond and also recover the robbed motorcycle. All the suspects were arraigned in court to face the law, while the armed robbery case was transferred to the SCID, Dutse, for discreet investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Police Command, CP Tijjani Murtala, psc, mnips, reiterated the Command's resolve to sustain intelligence-led policing, surveillance, and coordinated operations to prevent and dismantle criminal activities across the state.

The CP further warned criminals and their collaborators to desist from criminal activities or be prepared to face the full weight of the law, stressing that Jigawa State remains hostile to criminal elements.

CP TIJJANI HOLDS MAIDEN CONFERENCE WITH AREA COMMANDERS, DPOs, HODs, AND OUTSTATION/OUTPOST OFFICERS.

Today, Thursday, August 27, 2026, the Jigawa State Police Command, under the leadership of the newly posted Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, psc, mnips, has held his maiden conference with members of the Command Management Team, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Heads of Departments (HODs), and Heads of various formations across the state.

A separate conference was also held with Officers-in-Charge (O/Cs) of police outstations and outposts as part of the Command's strategic efforts to strengthen grassroots policing, improve operational coordination, and ensure effective supervision of police personnel across the state.

The conferences provided a strategic platform for the Commissioner of Police to interact directly with the Command's operational and administrative leadership, review existing security measures, identify emerging security challenges, and chart a common course towards enhancing public safety and security in Jigawa State.

In his address, CP Tijjani Murtala emphasized the need for professionalism, discipline, accountability, intelligence-led policing, and proactive crime prevention, charging all commanders to demonstrate effective leadership and remain responsive to the security needs of their respective communities.

Among the key issues deliberated upon were preparations for electioneering campaigns and political activities, with emphasis on strict adherence to the law, political neutrality of the police, protection of democratic processes, prevention of electoral violence, and the provision of adequate security for all lawful political activities.

The conference also stressed the importance of stakeholders' engagement and community-based intelligence gathering, with commanders directed to strengthen collaboration with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth organizations, community leaders, sister security agencies, and other relevant stakeholders in order to prevent crime and resolve emerging security concerns before they escalate.

The Commissioner further directed enhanced intelligence-led policing; effective information sharing; and coordinated operations, including strengthened joint operations with neighboring State Police Commands, particularly in addressing crimes and security threats that transcend state boundaries.

The Command's ongoing Operation Velvet, aimed at enforcing road traffic laws and curbing violations by motorists and other road users, was also reviewed, with the CP reiterating the need for sustained enforcement, public sensitization, and strict compliance with extant laws.

Other critical issues discussed included community policing, prevention of farmers-herders conflicts, drug abuse and related crimes, youth engagement and empowerment initiatives, effective response to distress calls, visibility policing, crime prevention, and professional conduct.

CP Tijjani Murtala also charged commanders to ensure that distress calls from members of the public receive prompt and effective attention, noting that timely response is essential to saving lives, protecting property, and strengthening public confidence in the police.

He equally warned personnel against misconduct, abuse of authority, human rights violations, and other acts capable of tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force. He emphasized that every officer must uphold the principles of integrity, fairness, respect for human dignity, and service to the public.

The Commissioner of Police called for unity of purpose, teamwork, and effective supervision among commanders and personnel, stressing that the security of Jigawa State requires a collective and coordinated approach.

The Commissioner of Police assured the people of Jigawa State of the Command's renewed commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining law and order, preventing crime, and ensuring a safe and secure environment for residents, businesses, and lawful political and socio-economic activities.
