ETTEH COMMENDS PRESIDENT TINUBU, SECURITY FORCES OVER SAFE RESCUE OF ABDUCTED OYO SCHOOLCHILDREN AND TEACHERS

The Member representing Eket/Onna/Esit Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. ETTEH OKPOLUPM IKPONG, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and Nigeria’s security agencies for the successful rescue and safe release of the abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.

In a statement issued on Friday, Hon. Etteh described the operation as a clear demonstration of the Tinubu administration’s commitment to the security of lives and property and to the protection of Nigerian children. He praised the professionalism, courage, and coordination of the Armed Forces, Police, DSS, and other security outfits involved in the rescue, noting that their sacrifice is restoring confidence in the nation’s security architecture.

“Our children are the future of this nation. To see them return home safely is a huge relief not just to Oyo State, but to all Nigerians. I thank Mr. President for providing the leadership and political will, and I thank our gallant security forces for a job well done,” the lawmaker stated.

Hon. Etteh prayed for God’s continued guidance for Mr. President and for divine protection over all men and women in uniform as they work to ensure peace and stability across the country.

REP. OKPOLUPM ETTEH CONDOLES APC NATIONAL SECRETARY, SENATOR AJIBOLA BASIRU, OVER MOTHER'S DEMISE

The Member representing Eket/ONNA/Esit Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Okpolupm Etteh, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, over the passing of his beloved mother, the late Alhaja Sidikat Basiru Suuru Odofin.

Rep. Etteh described the death of the respected matriarch as a painful loss, not only to the Basiru family but also to all who were privileged to experience her warmth, wisdom, and exemplary virtues.

According to the federal lawmaker, mothers occupy an irreplaceable place in the lives of their children and society, noting that the late Alhaja Sidikat's love, care, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment to her family laid the foundation for the outstanding achievements and character of her children, particularly Senator Basiru, whose contributions to national development continue to inspire many.

While acknowledging the profound grief that accompanies the loss of a mother, Rep. Etteh urged Senator Basiru and the entire family to find solace in the remarkable life she lived, her enduring legacy of service, and the countless lives she positively influenced.

He prayed that Almighty Allah grants the departed Alhaja Sidikat Basiru Suuru Odofin eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus, forgives her shortcomings, and grants Senator Basiru, the Basiru family, and all loved ones the strength, comfort, and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

HISTORIC CONSTITUTION REVIEW: REP. OKPOLUPM ETTEH BACKS STATE POLICE BILL

A member of the House of Representatives, Okpolupm Etteh, has joined colleagues in supporting the passage of the State Police Bill during plenary on Thursday.

The Bill, which seeks to amend Sections 214–216 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), scaled third reading after 289 lawmakers voted in favour, with one dissenting vote.

Rep. Etteh, who represents Eket/ONNA/Esit-Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency, was part of the historic vote that followed confirmation of quorum, with 290 members in attendance.

The legislation provides for the establishment of state police as part of efforts to decentralise Nigeria’s security architecture and improve internal security across the country.

Speaking after the plenary, Rep. Etteh described the development as a bold and necessary step towards addressing Nigeria’s security challenges through community-based policing.

According to him, the passage of the Bill reflects the growing consensus among lawmakers on the need for reforms that will make security agencies more responsive to local realities.

The Bill also outlines provisions for coordination, oversight and accountability, as well as a clear delineation of responsibilities between federal and state policing structures.

“The passage of the bill marked a decisive constitutional step towards strengthening national security while preserving the unity of the country. The outcome of Thursday plenary also underscored the commitment of the House of Representatives to reforms that enhance governance and security,” he said.
