Water Resources Commissioner Receives Gombe Assembly Committee on Water Resources and Environment for Oversight Visit.
The Honourable Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Engr. Balah Adams, today received members of the Gombe State House of Assembly Committee on Water Resources and Environment on a familiarization and oversight visit.
The delegation was led by the Committee Chairman, Hon. Musa Manaja Zambuk.
In his welcome remarks, Hon. Balah Adams described the visit as timely, noting that recent public outcry on water issues prompted the legislature’s fact-finding mission. He assured the committee of the Ministry’s full cooperation in finding lasting solutions to water supply challenges in the state.
The Commissioner outlined the roles and mandates of the Ministry and its agencies. A presentation was then made by Engr. Enoch Joshua on behalf of the Director of Water Resources, highlighting ongoing projects including:
-Construction, Rehabilitation, Expansion and Upgrade of water schemes in Gombe Metropolis, Mallam Inna Water Works and the international Abbatoir, Dadinkowa Water Treatment Facility, and Tabra Booster Stations.
-Installation of an independent solar power system at Dadinkowa and Tabra booster station to address energy challenges at the water treatment plant and Tabra booster Station.
-Balanga Dam: Development of a 620KW hydroelectric plant with hybrid solar system, and upcoming irrigation activities under the SPIN Project.
-Updates on the NG-SURWASH Programme and activities of GSTWB, STOWASSA, and RUWASSA.
In his remarks, Hon. Musa Zambuk said the visit was part of the Assembly’s constitutional oversight duties to scrutinize budgetary allocations, contracts, and project impact on the people. He commended the Ministry for providing comprehensive documentation to guide their oversight and called for sustained collaboration between the legislature and the Ministry for the benefit of Gombe citizens.
Other committee members also made contributions and sought clarifications, which were addressed to their satisfaction.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary Designate,Alh. Shuaibu Ciroma, welcomed the legislators and reaffirmed the existing harmonious working relationship between the Ministry and the House Committee.
The meeting concluded with a clear understanding of the efforts of the Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON administration to ensure access to clean potable water and to harness the state’s water resources for hydroelectric and irrigation purposes.
In attendance were Directors and Heads of Agencies from GSTWB, STOWASSA, and RUWASSA.
