As Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum, I join millions in mourning the passing of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, a towering Islamic scholar and global Tijjaniyya leader.

He devoted a century to teaching the Qur’an, Hadith, Islamic jurisprudence and guiding the Ummah with humility, wisdom and unwavering commitment to peace.

His legacy of knowledge, moral discipline and spiritual leadership will continue to inspire generations.

On behalf of the NSGF, I extend heartfelt condolences to his family, the Tijjaniyya community and the entire Muslim Ummah.

May Allah grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.

As Northern States Governors, we have consistently maintained that schools must remain sanctuaries of learning and growth, not theatres of fear, violence or terror.

Northern Nigeria already contends with significant challenges and educational setbacks, and we cannot allow criminal elements to derail our collective efforts at returning out-of-school children back into the classroom.

The rising trend of attacks on schools is worrisome and saddening. As governors, we will continue to work closely with the security agencies and all relevant stakeholders to strengthen intelligence gathering, enhance community vigilance and reinforce the protection of our schools.

As I promised during the last payment exercise in July, our administration will achieve zero gratuity backlog by 2027.

Today, we’re taking another bold step toward that vision with the disbursement of N8.2 billion to 3,204 retirees from both state and local government service.

With this payment, our cumulative gratuity disbursement since 2019 has reached an unprecedented N33.8 billion, the highest in the history of Gombe State.

Our retirees served diligently, and they deserve to live their post-service life in dignity. No one will be left waiting for their entitlements.

Col. Abdullahi Bello (rtd) will be remembered as a pillar of discipline, courage and selfless service. He carried out his duties with unmatched diligence and deep sense of responsibility.

His demise is a monumental loss not only to his family and our government, but to Gombe State and Nigeria at large.

On behalf of the government and people of Gombe State, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the Balanga community. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannat Firdaus.

We also pray for the repose of Sgt. Hussaini’s soul and the quick recovery of the injured driver.
