ZAMFARA GOV’T PAYS N500 MILLION GRATUITY TO 4TH BATCH OF 2025 RETIRED LOCAL GOVERNMENT WORKERS

The Zamfara State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has commenced the payment of gratuities to the fourth batch of retired Local Government workers for the 2025 exercise, amounting to the sum of N500 million, as part of the ongoing commitment of the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal to improve the welfare of retirees and ensure prompt settlement of their entitlements. Similar gratuity disbursements to earlier batches have been reported as part of the state’s continuing retirement benefits programme.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ahmad Garba Yandi, stated that the payment demonstrates the government’s determination to address challenges associated with gratuity backlogs and restore dignity to retired workers who served diligently across the local government system. Previous ministry statements on gratuity payments have emphasized transparency, verification, and fairness in the process.

He explained that the approval and release of funds followed due verification and documentation procedures to ensure accountability, transparency, and equitable disbursement to eligible beneficiaries.

The Zamfara State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has commenced the payment of gratuity to the third batch of retired Local Government staff across the state at the total sum of Four Hundred and Ninety-Nine Million Naira.

The Ministry also commenced the payment of monthly pensions to the remaining pensioners who were yet to be captured under the ongoing pension payment arrangement.

This development is part of the commitment of the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal to improve the welfare of retirees and ensure that former workers who served the state diligently receive their entitlements without unnecessary delay.

The Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Engr. Ahmad Garban Yandi, stated that the payment reflects the government’s determination to address the longstanding challenges affecting retired Local Government workers and pensioners in the state.

He explained that the approval and release of funds for the third batch of gratuity payments followed careful verification and documentation processes to ensure transparency, accountability, and fairness in the exercise.

The Zamfara State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening local government leadership for inclusive development and effective social protection delivery across the state.

The Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Engr. Ahmad Garban Yandi, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Yakubu Sanusi Yari, led the delegation of Zamfara Local Government Chairmen to the Stakeholder Engagement on Strengthening Local Government Leadership for Inclusive Development and Social Protection Delivery organized by the National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO).

The National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO), a Federal agency under the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, implements social safety-net programs to protect and empower vulnerable populations.

The engagement was held at the Transcorp Congress Hall, Abuja, and brought together stakeholders from across the country, including representatives of Federal and State Governments, Local Government officials, development partners, and social protection agencies.

KAURA NAMODA LG CHAIRMAN RESUMES DUTIES FOLLOWING CLEARANCE BY STATE ASSEMBLY

The Zamfara State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs wishes to inform the general public that the Chairman of Kaura Namoda Local Government, Hon. Mannir Mu’azu Haidara has officially resumed his duties following his clearance by the Zamfara State House of Assembly.

It will be recalled that the Chairman was recently suspended by the House of Assembly to allow for a thorough investigation into certain allegations. After due legislative scrutiny and consideration, the House has found no grounds to sustain the suspension and has accordingly cleared the Chairman of all allegations.

The Ministry acknowledges and respects the oversight function of the Zamfara State House of Assembly and commends its commitment to due process, transparency, and accountability in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.

With this development, the Ministry hereby directs the immediate reinstatement of the Chairman, who is expected to continue discharging his duties in accordance with the laws guiding local government administration in the state.

The Ministry urges the Chairman to remain focused, uphold the principles of good governance, and work in harmony with all stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery and grassroots development in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

Furthermore, all staff and stakeholders are advised to extend their full cooperation to the Chairman to ensure continuity and stability in the administration of the local government.

COMMISSIONER YANDI MOURNS PERSONAL ASSISTANT, SHAMSU MUHAMMAD B/TSABA

The Zamfara State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs is deeply saddened to announce the passing of the Personal Assistant to the Honourable Commissioner, who departed this life yesterday.

The Honourable Commissioner, Engr. Ahmad Garban Yandi, on behalf of the management, and entire staff of the Ministry express their heartfelt condolences to the immediate family, friends, and associates of the deceased during this moment of grief. The loss is not only to the family but also to the Ministry and Zamfara State at large, as the late Shamsu B/Tsaba, was a dedicated and committed individual who served with diligence and loyalty.

The Ministry describes the deceased as a hardworking and respectful personality whose contributions to the smooth running of the office will be greatly missed.

We pray Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give the family the strength to bear this irreparable loss.

SUSPENSION OF KAURA NAMODA AND BUKKUYYUM LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMEN

The Zamfara State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs hereby announces the suspension of the Chairmen of Kaura Namoda and Bukkuyyum Local Government Areas Mannir Mu’azu Haidara and Umar A Faru, following a directive from the Zamfara State House of Assembly.

The Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Engr. Ahmad Garban Yandi, confirmed that the suspension takes immediate effect, in line with the resolution of the State House of Assembly pending the outcome of ongoing investigations into matters of concern.

In view of this development, the Vice Chairmen of Kaura Namoda and Bukkuyyum Local Government Areas, Shehu Almajir K/daji and Bala Muhammad have been directed to immediately assume responsibility for the administration of their respective councils. This measure is to ensure continuity of governance and uninterrupted delivery of services to the people at the grassroots level.

The Ministry assures the general public that due process will be strictly followed, and the investigation will be conducted transparently and in accordance with the law.

The Zamfara State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has successfully convened the Joint Account Committee (JAAC) meeting for the month of March 2026, reaffirming the State Government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and effective grassroots development.

The meeting, held at the Ministry’s conference hall in Gusau, brought together key stakeholders, including Chairmen of the 14 Local Government Areas, Local Governments Secretaries Directors of Finance, representatives of the State Ministry of Finance, and other relevant officials.

Presiding over the meeting, the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Engr. Ahmad Garba Yandi, emphasized the importance of prudent financial management and equitable distribution of resources to all local government councils. He noted that the JAC platform remains a vital mechanism for ensuring that allocations meant for local governments are judiciously utilized for the benefit of the people.

During the session, deliberations focused on statutory allocations received from the Federation Account for the month under review, as well as other internally generated revenues. The Committee also reviewed ongoing projects across the local government areas and stressed the need for timely ex*****on and strict adherence to due process.

The Commissioner further urged Local Government Chairmen to prioritize projects that have direct impact on the lives of citizens, particularly in areas such as primary healthcare, basic education, rural infrastructure, and water supply.
