ZSPWDB CONCLUDES TWO-DAY WORKSHOP ON DISABILITY IMPLEMENTATION FRAMEWORK IN KADUNA

The Zamfara State Ministry of Budget and Planning, in collaboration with the Zamfara State Action on Business Enabling Reforms, has concluded a two-day workshop on the Review of the Persons with Disability Implementation Framework and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Plan, held in Kaduna, from 27th to 28th August 2026. The workshop was supported by the Nigeria Governors' Forum, the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council, and the World Bank Group.

The Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board (ZSPwDB) participated alongside representatives from the Zamfara State House of Assembly, the Ministry of Budget and Planning, the Ministry of Health, the Social Welfare department, Ministry of Justice, and other relevant institutions.

The workshop provided an important platform to review and strengthen the implementation framework, reflecting the Board's commitment to building the technical capacity required to effectively implement disability policies and programmes in Zamfara State.

Following the successful conclusion of the second day, the ZSPwDB delegation departed Kaduna for Zamfara State.

ZAMFARA MINISTRY OF BUDGET AND PLANNING LEADS REVIEW OF DISABILITY IMPLEMENTATION FRAMEWORK IN KADUNA

The Zamfara State Ministry of Budget and Planning, in collaboration with the Zamfara State Action on Business Enabling Reforms, is conducting a two-day workshop to review the Persons with Disability Implementation Framework and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Plan.

A delegation from the Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board (ZSPwDB), led by Executive Chairman Usman Ahmed Nahuche, is participating in the workshop. They are joined by representatives from the Zamfara State House of Assembly, the Deputy Clerk (Legislative Matters), the Director of Administration and Human Resources from the Ministry of Budget and Planning, the Deputy Director of Social Protection Coordination, representatives from the Ministry of Health, the Director of Social Welfare, and other relevant stakeholders.

The workshop is being held at Bafra International Hotel, No. 37 Yakubu Avenue, off Alkali Road, Kaduna, from the 27th to the 28th of August, 2026.

The review of the implementation framework and M&E plan underscores the Board's commitment to enhancing the technical capacity necessary for the effective implementation of disability policies and programs in Zamfara State.

ZSPWDB ADVANCES PARTNERSHIP WITH INTERNATIONAL RESCUE COMMITTEE

The Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board (ZSPwDB) received a delegation from the International Rescue Committee (IRC) as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration with development partners and promote more inclusive humanitarian interventions for persons with disabilities.

The delegation, led by Mr. Elijah Olusegun Olagoke, Field Coordinator Northwest of IRC, was received by the Executive Chairman of ZSPwDB, Usman Ahmad Nahuche, following the Board's earlier correspondence seeking engagement and partnership with the organization.

Welcoming the delegation, the Executive Chairman highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships with development and humanitarian organizations in advancing the Board's mandate. He also introduced the Board's institutional mandate and noted its progress as a relatively young agency, having been established just ten months ago.

Nahuche expressed appreciation to the delegation for visiting the Board's office, noting that the Board had initially planned to visit IRC instead, but that the delegation's decision to come to them was a thoughtful accommodation given accessibility constraints.

Speaking on behalf of IRC, Elijah Olusegun Olagoke expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage with the Board and provided an overview of the Organization's thematic areas, including nutrition interventions for malnourished children, health-related programmes, and humanitarian support for vulnerable populations, including persons with disabilities and internally displaced persons. He further outlined IRC's broader areas of intervention and acknowledged the importance of engaging relevant disability institutions to strengthen the inclusiveness and effectiveness of humanitarian programmes.

The Board Secretary, Dr. Bilyaminu Umar Kaura, commended IRC for its longstanding interventions supporting persons with disabilities, including initiatives undertaken before the establishment of ZSPwDB.

He emphasized the importance of involving the Board in intervention planning and decision-making to ensure that programmes respond to the actual and diverse needs of persons with disabilities.

Using assistive mobility as an example, Dr. Kaura explained that support must be informed by individual needs, noting that a wheelchair suitable for one person may not necessarily be appropriate for another. He stressed that meaningful inclusion requires proper assessment and consultation rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

In response, Mr. Olagoke acknowledged the issues raised during the engagement and assured the Board that the concerns and priorities discussed would be taken into consideration in relevant IRC interventions, with a commitment to strengthening the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the organisation's programmes.

The engagement further underscores the importance of sustained collaboration between government disability institutions and development partners in ensuring that humanitarian and development interventions are needs-based, accessible, and genuinely inclusive.

GOOD NEWS: RECRUITMENT DEADLINE EXTENDED

The Zamfara State Committee for the Recruitment of Basic Education Teachers, through the Zamfara Information Technology Development Agency (ZITDA), has announced an extension of the application deadline for the ongoing recruitment of 3,050 Basic School Teachers.

Following requests from the Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board (ZSPwDB), the portal has been reopened to give all eligible candidates — including qualified persons with disabilities a fair and equal opportunity to apply.

New closing date: Tuesday, 21st July 2026 at 11:59 PM.

Qualified persons with disabilities who have not yet applied are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this extension and complete their applications before the deadline. No further extension will be granted.

ZSPwDB commends the Committee and ZITDA for this responsive action and reaffirms its commitment to ensuring persons with disabilities are not left behind in public employment opportunities across Zamfara State.

ZSPwDB, RHOWI AND AGILE PARTNER TO ADVANCE INCLUSIVE EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES

The Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board (ZSPwDB), in collaboration with the Rebuilding Hopes on Wheels Initiative (RHOWI) and the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), distributed learning materials to 20 children with disabilities in a renewed effort to promote inclusive and equitable access to quality education.

The intervention was initiated by ZSPwDB Board Members, Binta Namadi and Hajiya Amina Audu, who is also the Founder of RHOWI. Following the initiative, the Board formally engaged AGILE to support children with special needs through the provision of essential learning materials, culminating in the successful distribution to 20 beneficiaries.

Speaking during the distribution, the Executive Chairman of ZSPwDB, Usman Ahmad Nahuche, commended Board Members Binta Namadi and Hajiya Amina Audu for championing the initiative and appreciated AGILE for its prompt response and support for inclusive education for children with disabilities.

The Executive Chairman described education as the most powerful tool for breaking barriers and creating opportunities for children with disabilities. He emphasized that every child, regardless of disability, deserves access to quality education that enables them to realize their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society.

Drawing from his personal experience, Nahuche recounted how he became deaf at early age of 8 but remained determined to pursue education.

"With quality education, appropriate support, and an inclusive society, persons with disabilities can achieve their aspirations and make meaningful contributions to national development," he said.

Also speaking, the Deputy Project Coordinator of AGILE, Dr. Salisu Dalhatu, emphasized the importance of investing in the education of children with disabilities, describing inclusive education as a foundation for equal opportunity and sustainable development. He reaffirmed AGILE's readiness to support initiatives that expand access to quality education for vulnerable learners whenever the need arises.

In his remarks, the Board Secretary, Dr. Bilyaminu Umar Kaura, advised parents and caregivers to make effective use of the learning materials and remain dedicated to the education and wellbeing of their children. He encouraged them to continue engaging with the Board whenever support or guidance is needed, reaffirming its resolve to improving educational opportunities for children with disabilities.

The distribution of the learning materials highlights the value of collaboration among government institutions, development partners, and civil society organisations in advancing inclusive education. The Board expressed its sincere appreciation to AGILE and RHOWI for their partnership and shared dedication to ensuring that every child with a disability has the opportunity to learn, thrive, and succeed.

ZSPwDB APPRECIATES HON. ABDULMALIK ABUBAKAR GAJAM FOR INCLUSIVE ACTION ON 3,050 TEACHERS RECRUITMENT

The Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board (ZSPwDB) commends the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam, for his prompt response to the Board's appeal for inclusive participation of persons with disabilities in the ongoing recruitment of 3,050 Basic School Teachers.

Following last week's engagement with the Commissioner, the Board is pleased to note that the application process has been made more accessible and special education subject also added as a category for persons with disabilities. Many qualified applicants with disabilities have since been able to complete their applications with ease.

The Executive Chairman of ZSPwDB, Usman Ahmad Nahuche, expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for this timely intervention, describing it as a demonstration of genuine commitment to inclusive governance and equal opportunity for all citizens of the state.

Yesterday, the Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board (ZSPwDB) received the Director of Social Protection Coordination, Hajiya Safiya Ibrahim, and her deputy, from the Ministry of Budget and Planning on a courtesy and technical engagement aimed at deepening cooperation on disability inclusion in the state.

The visit follows the Board's ongoing engagement with the Ministry as part of efforts to strengthen institutional collaboration on disability-related programmes across the state.

Speaking during the meeting, the Executive Chairman of ZSPwDB, Usman Ahmad Nahuche, commended the Ministry for the visit and reiterated the importance of sustained partnership between the Board and relevant government institutions in advancing the welfare and inclusion of persons with disabilities.

The Director of Social Protection Coordination, representing the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, reaffirmed the Ministry's readiness to work closely with the Board in promoting effective coordination on disability-related matters.

ZSPwDB HOSTS PREMIÈRE URGENCE INTERNATIONALE TO STRENGTHEN PARTNERSHIP FOR DISABILITY INCLUSION

The Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board (ZSPwDB) today received a delegation from Première Urgence Internationale (PUI) on a courtesy visit aimed at deepening cooperation and enhancing inclusive humanitarian and development interventions for persons with disabilities in the state.

The PUI delegation said the visit followed the Board's earlier engagement with the organization and provided an opportunity to establish institutional ties.

During the meeting, the delegation explained that the visit was to gain a better understanding of the Board's mandate, assess the priority needs of persons with disabilities, and identify areas for possible partnership. The team acknowledged that prior to the Board's introductory visit, they were unaware of the Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board's existence, and commended the initiative for fostering stronger engagement with development partners.

The PUI representatives highlighted the organisation's thematic areas of intervention and expressed readiness to explore opportunities within its mandate. They further assured the Board that where identified needs fall outside PUI's scope of work, they would facilitate referrals and linkages with other relevant partners to expand support for persons with disabilities.
