As we settle into the first full week of October, a mix of rainfall and cloudy conditions is expected. See below for things to do and look out for.

- Plan spraying, fertiliser application and other field activities around the drier periods to reduce wash-off.
- Make use of the drier window for harvesting, drying produce and routine farm maintenance where conditions permit.
- Livestock farmers should keep shelters, feed and bedding dry and monitor animals during periods of persistent rainfall.
- Keep an eye out for increased pest and disease activity as wet and humid conditions continue.

Weather conditions may vary across Oyo State, so farmers should continue to monitor local conditions when planning farm activities.

The forecast for next week is yet more rainfall. Farmers should plan activities accordingly:

- Plan spraying, fertiliser application and harvesting around periods of lighter rainfall to reduce wash-off and spoilage.
- Ensure farm drainage channels are clear, particularly ahead of heavy rain or thunderstorms.
- Farmers harvesting crops should prioritise proper drying and safe storage to prevent moisture-related losses.
- Livestock farmers should keep shelters dry, protect feed from moisture and monitor animals during periods of heavy rain.
- Watch for increased pest and disease activity following prolonged wet conditions.

Weather conditions can vary across different parts of the State, so farmers should continue to monitor local conditions and adjust farm activities accordingly.

Another wet week is expected, with rain forecast throughout the period and a thunderstorm possible.

Farmers should:

- Monitor drainage and reduce field activities when soils are saturated. Watch for increased pest and disease activity under prolonged wet conditions.
- Prioritise harvesting mature crops during available dry intervals and move harvested produce quickly to appropriate storage to reduce spoilage.
- Plan fertiliser applications around periods with little or no rainfall to reduce wash-off and improve effectiveness.
- Keep shelters dry, maintain good ventilation and ensure animals have access to clean drinking water and dry areas, particularly during periods of persistent rain.
- Secure farm equipment and temporary structures and clear drainage channels ahead of the expected thunderstorm.

Weather can vary across different parts of Oyo State, so farmers should continue to monitor local conditions when planning activities.
