Oyo State Begins House-to-House Waste Bin Enforcement
Deadline for Compliance: 1 September 2026

The Oyo State Government has commenced enforcement of mandatory waste bin provision for every residential and commercial building across the State, giving residents and property owners one month to comply.

The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Ademola Aderinto, announced that every household, residential building, business premises, shopping complex and plaza must provide designated waste bins commensurate to the size of the building, the number of occupants and the volume of waste generated.

What You Must Do:

- Provide designated waste bins appropriate to the size of your building or business premises.
- Patronise only government-accredited Private Sector Participants (PSPs) for waste collection and evacuation.
- Remain up to date with monthly waste disposal payments, as enforcement teams will verify evidence of payment during inspections.
-Ensure your surroundings remain clean.

Anyone found engaging unapproved waste contractors or disposing of waste through unauthorised means will face the full weight of the law.

Oriire Abduction: Judicial Commission of Inquiry Calls for Public Memoranda

The Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by the Oyo State Government to investigate the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Esinele and Yawota communities of Oriire Local Government Area has called on members of the public with relevant information to submit written memoranda to assist its investigation.

The Commission is seeking information, facts, evidence, and materials relating to the abduction, including the circumstances surrounding the incident, the security situation before, during, and after the abduction, the response of relevant authorities, and recommendations for preventing a recurrence.

How to Submit

Persons submitting memoranda are required to provide their full names, contact details and any supporting documents or materials where applicable.

Submissions may be made physically at the Conference Room, Office of the Head of Service, State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan or electronically at [email protected]

Deadline for submission: 14 August 2026.

The Secretary, Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the Abduction of Students and Teachers in Esinele and Yawota Communities, Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State.

Governor Seyi Makinde inaugurated the Judicial Commission of Inquiry on 31 July 2026 to establish the facts surrounding the incident, review the response of relevant authorities and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence.

The Oyo State Government congratulates Olanrewaju Samuel Faleye, founder of Olanreforward Foods and Farms Limited who recently won an Award of Excellence for MSME of the Year at the 8th MSME of the Year Awards hosted by the Federal Government.

Mr Faleye’s inspiring journey as an agropreneur started in 2017 when he founded his company. In 2024, he entered into a partnership with the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) for the implementation of the HortiNigeria Programme in Oyo State. This partnership led to him working directly with pepper and groundnut farmers in Iseyin and other parts of Oyo State for processing of pepper and groundnuts, thus reducing post-harvest losses and increasing the income of the farmers.

Olanreforward Foods and Farms Limited has created over 40 direct and indirect jobs. The company was awarded N15 million for MSME of the Year, N7.5 million naira for tax compliance and an SUV by the Federal Government. On behalf of the OYSG, Governor Seyi Makinde also pledged to support the business with N10 million.

In the Oyo State Roadmap for Sustainable Development 2023-2027, Governor Seyi Makinde committed to strengthening healthcare delivery through the renovation and equipping of Primary Healthcare Centres, the procurement of additional ambulances, and the upgrade of secondary healthcare facilities across the State.

The Healthcare Initiative Project, to be financed through a €55 million French loan, which, if judiciously utilised, will be converted into a grant.

The project will support the modular construction and equipping of hospitals to include a Cardiac Centre, Emergency and Maternity Centres, Operating Theatres, and Intensive Care Units (ICUs). It will also provide 39 ambulances, 10 dental centres, and 200 Primary Healthcare Centres, alongside emergency and maternity facilities in Igbo-Ora, Ogbomoso, Oyo, Moniya, Kishi, Iseyin, Okeho, and Eruwa.

The Oyo State Government has increased its equity investment in Oyo Sugar and Derivatives Industries Limited, Iseyin by an additional N2.4B, as the company prepares for commissioning and commencement of commercial operations in Q4 2026.

Upon completion, the sugar factory will produce 24–27 tonnes of brown sugar and 18 tonnes of molasses daily creating over 500 direct jobs and working with about 1,000 farmers as outgrowers.
